hey everyone,
i am recovering from an eating disorder.. And the journey God has taken me on even just in such a short time since I said "God I need you to saveme from myself".. its incredible!

But from my point of view, and perhaps a few other peoples point of view from an eating disorder... I have to ask, when we are supposed to be living by the Spirit everyday, making the right choices in anything from how we tell this person about Jesus, right down to eating food... if we made those conscious choices everyday to honor God, is it really right to be fat, or even underweight (putting aside medical problems etc)??

this question just randomly popped into my mind lol.
but really if we are living by the spirit everyday, even the choices we make about eating and the foods we eat should be healthy etc.. right? and the same with exercise too.

sorry if this offends anyone, i dont mean it to, i just want to know..

ifihadwingz,

i understand what you are asking and have thought about this same idea. i believe that you are not truly honoring and loving God with your whole entire heart and being if you are obsessed with food. i believe weight does not play an issue. there are some extremely small and some larger people who eat healthy but for some reason look anorexic or obese.

i believe that God gave us this one life, he gave us our body and by eating (or not eating) to the point where it is risking your life and harming you you are not honoring God. when you eat like this, when you are obsessed over food, when you can't stop eating unhealthy junk food, then food has control of your life, not you, not God, but food is.

I am in overeaters anonymous and i am so glad you posted this because i am struggling with this right now. i want to show my love for God in everyway but harming my body & life, this beauutiful gift he has given me is not showing my true love for Him. someone in OA said it perfectly. now this is interms of compulsive overeating but i think it definitely could be taken for anorexia & bulimia. when you are a compulsive overeater food is like an idol. you worship food. the 1st commandment is to not worship any other idols, yet when you worship food, you are breaking that 1st so important rule.

i agree that the food choices we make should be healthy everyday, but we are not perfect. God knows this and still loves us all.

great great post!! definitely no offense here!!

The Bible does not directly talk about eating disorders. However, it says that our bodies are the temple of God, and we are to care for them...it is not right to be obese or anorexic.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's".
Eating disorders harms the body (the temple of God) and dishonors God. Eating disorders are bondages and God is able to free anyone from them.
