The church in Corinth had come through a rough patch where false teachers had discredited the teachings of the gospel and many believers had hardened their hearts to receive from Paul's teachings. Paul was so concerned about the welfare of the church, but eventually received news that revival had broken out! Believer's had repented and their passion for the truth was revived. This news led Paul to write to encourage the church to stand strong in their new found faith. As he ends off his letter (2 Corinthians 13:14), he emphasizes the importance of their partnership with the Holy Spirit. The phrase 'fellowship in the Holy Spirit' means our communion and participation in Him.

The Greek word for communion is koinonia, and conveys the idea of taking responsibility for someone. So, when Paul says "... the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.", he is explaining an important truth. In our Christian walk, there will be challenges and difficulties that test our faith and even tempt us to give up on the truth we have embraced and learned. But we have a powerful partner in the Person of the Holy Spirit. When we choose to trust and keep our hearts tender and teachable towards Him, He will direct us in all things. And as we embrace the Word of God, and stand strong in its truth, He will be the One that constantly leads us into victory. Count on your partnership with the Holy Spirit today, and trust Him to take responsibility for your life.
