if you think the earth is flat, wouldn't the center be near the north pole?

No, because a compass centre is not the north pole, its the centre :)

The center of the earths mass as at the center of the earth it's not on its out lying surface area that is way away from the center of mass.. Is the center of a wheel tire around on the rubber tire of coarse not its at the wheel hub in the middle.

yes.

and from what i can glean without doing calculations myself, the centroid of the land mass, when projected to the surface, is around Romania or Turkey, not at Giza. there's some discrepancy depending on your grid size & whether you use a spherical or ellipsoidal map of the earth.

back in 1864, Charles Piazzi Smyth, royal astronomer of Scotland, a man obsessed with the pyramids ((with a very poor reputation among modern Egyptologists, mind you)) used a mercator projection to try to show that the pyramid site was the geographic center of the earth's land mass. Egyptians didn't use mercator projections, and a mercator projection, with all of its distortions, isn't the right way to go about getting an accurate result for such a question. this man was agenda-driven when he came to this conclusion.

Anyone consider asking God directly to show you? He may need to show you a few other things first before you are ready to be shown. I'm not saying one way or the other what the outcome will be as leave that to God. Have patience. Wait for the answer.
This is a good point. Makes me think of the verses about how we have been given Moses and the prophets. If they will not believe them then there is no way to persuade them.

If they will not believe the Bible and what it says, but will rather hold fast to crooked deceits and heresies and the doctrines of man, even insulting the Bible willfully or out of ignorance, then there is going to be no convincing them. But let the true of heart consult the writings of the prophets and learn truth and wisdom from the hands of the prophets of the One True God.

As promised I'll put forth some scriptures to the questions since none will answer. We will bear in mind the one goodly mention of the verse from the book of Joshua about the sun being stopped from moving. So here is an example of what answers to my questions I was looking for.

Question: What does the Bible say about the sun whether it moves around earth or earth around the sun?

The Bible says:

Psalm 19:1-6

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

Question: What does the Bible say about the earth whether it moves or does not move?

The Bible says:

Psalm 93:1

1 The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

And there are more verses as well to these questions, but I will not hog up all the glory of the scriptures. What other verses can be found? I leave the questions open to be answered to all still.

this says that the sun goes from one end of the heavens to another.
completely jives with modern cosmology - that the entire solar system, even the galaxy, indeed the entire universe, all things are in motion across the heavens.

it doesn't mention the earth.

in understanding the analogy given in this passage as it relates to an observer on the face of the earth, it speaks of relative motion, which isn't any more significant in terms of absolute motion than it would be to affirm that the universe revolved around Ahab since the Bible, speaking of him in his chariot, describes him as being stationary there (1 Kings 22:35). the description of the motion of Ahab is given relative to his chariot; the purpose is not to describe an absolute table of velocities for the cosmos ((relative to some point fixed outside of the universe??)), it is to to describe displacement or lack of displacement in a relevant way to the observer/reader. it may very well be, and is very likely, that Ahab's chariot moved around ((relative to the earth)) during the course of the battle described in the scripture reference, but the king is described as motionless, because that motion is relative to his chariot.

this is all, in fact, a conversation about relative motion.
your mind is fixed on the earth? that is your reference frame?
then fine, do calculations with the dirt as your zero point. why should you take motion relative to the stars into account when walking to the corner mart in your hoodie to get some skittles and a soda?
but if your mind is fixed in the heavens, and you are planning out a route to an asteroid to get some magnesium, then you are wise to understand the relative motions of the sun and her planets, and take the center of this system as a zero point in your reference frame.

Psalm 93:1

1 The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.
this is "the world" referenced here, as i wrote earlier, not "the earth"

the context is not cosmology - it is authority and governance: "
the Lord reigns"
it is with reference to the system over which He reigns, that is, the world, that it is said is established, and will not be overthrown. drawing topological conclusions from this statement is introducing a context that is not present.

this is further understood by looking closely at the text:

first, note the word "world" - תֵּ֝בֵ֗ל - is used, not "earth" - אָ֫רֶץ - which is the word used in the creation narrative.

next, note the word translated "established" - תִּכּ֥וֹן - this is a word that means to be made certain, confirmed, prepared, ordained. it is not a word that describes physical motion; it is a word that describes such things as the setting up of kingdoms, laws and plans of action.
ref. -
Strong's Hebrew: 3559. כּוּן (kun) -- to be firm

and now note the word rendered "be moved" - תִּמּֽוֹט׃ - this word means literally to be shaken, to totter or slip, or to be brought down. it is common in the Psalms being used to describe the heart ((ex. Psalm 13:4)), or figuratively the foot, as in 'if my foot slips' - with reference to committing error or to sin ((ex. Psalm 17:5)) - and in order to describe the downfall of nations ((ex. Psalm 46:6)). it is not a word that describes such things as travel or journeys; one would not use this when talking about making laps around the colosseum, instead, it is ((like the word translated here as established)) descriptive of intangible things more often than physical objects and their relative displacements.
ref. -
Strong's Hebrew: 4131. מוֹט (mot) -- to totter, shake, slip

understanding what these words mean, and comprehending the immediate context of the statement - the reign of the Lord - it is very plain that this is not a descriptor of the absolute motion of heavenly bodies.

Well rather than saying the Bible doesn't mean what it says and that we should heed the heresies of the doctrines of men; why don't you try posting a verse that supports your claims?

If the earth revolves around the sun then you should be able to find a verse about that pretty easily in the Bible

If the earth spins you should be able to find that pretty easily in the Bible.

I know there's more verses to both those questions, but I'll give you and others a chance to post them I figure.

Sure God is from everlasting to everlasting as that verse says.

Show me in the Bible if it says the earth spins or does not spin.

Should be pretty easy if it is there.

If the earth spins you should be able to find that pretty easily in the Bible.
what's your basis for this assertion?

it's equivalent to say, "
if the temperature of a blackbody can be determined by the wavelength of its emitted photons you should be able to find that in the Bible"
the scripture is a book about theology, not astrophysics.

i hardly think enough time passed between my post and your reply for you to have carefully read it and given serious consideration to the facts i laid out. please think about it.

My basis for that assertion is the Bible is correct.

God created the earth and heavens, I reckon he knows more than the heretics of science falsely so-called.

From "the Bible is correct" it does not follow that detailed information about every kind of knowledge and fact is written therein. if this is not so, then show me what the Bible says about the quantum origin of the absorption lines of helium electrons in the electromagnetic spectrum.

As i've told you now 3 times, i am unaware of any place in scripture that the earth is described in terms of its absolute topological inertia.

Well since there is no place in the Bible that you can find that says the earth moves and at the same time there are places in the Bible that can be cited straightly that say that it does not move, it stands to reason that it does not move.

Arrg no spinning earth, I like the seasons and the oceans where they are, who would want no seasons and all the oceans gathered at each pole that wouldn't be cool.

Lol well it seems according to the Bible that God appoints the times and seasons. He gathers the waters and has set their bounds. We do not have to rely on the earth for that, God is in charge.

Daniel 2:20-21

[SUP]20 [/SUP]Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
[SUP]21 [/SUP]And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

With regard to Joshua 10:13...

According to the Ball Earth model -- for the sun and moon to [ even appear to ] stand still for a whole day -- the Earth would absolutely necessarily have to stop spinning for the duration of that day. Moreover, the time it took to "spin-down" and later "spin-up" would have to be very short ( with the sun either not moving or moving very slowly during the "spin-down" and "spin-up" times ).

Everyone on Earth would have felt it!

In fact, massive amounts of people all over the Earth would have been killed -- along with major destruction of everything in sight -- from the sudden change in the speed of the spin!

Indications are, in the verse, that the sun and moon stopped moving for a whole day while no disruptions in human activity occurred during that time...

How many hours would it take to safely "spin-down" and later "spin-up" the Earth such that it did not disrupt life on Earth in general - and more specifically, the activities of Joshua's men? Moreover -- such that it could not even be felt?

Bzzzzztt! Nope. Sorry. Not enough time in the day for that...

do you think God has the ability to slow down earth while keeping everyone on earth nice and snug. Or do you think He stopped things and then God said O my what have I done now everyone on earth has been killed.

In addition to stopping the earth from spinning, is God going to stop it from revolving around the sun too? If the earth continues to revolve around the sun, the sun will appear to move still despite the earth not "rotating".

If God Stops the Earth from revolving around the sun, He will have to stop the Sun from revolving around the "mystery object" that the sun is revolving around, otherwise our motionless planet will be left behind.

Do you believe the earth will stop rotating and revolving, or just rotating? It would seem the only way it would be possible for the sun and moon to stop on your model, would be if God stopped the movement of the entire "known universe", because according to modern "physicists" everything in the universe is moving.

Matt 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
