MANILA, Philippines (AP) - A Philippine court found former first lady Imelda Marcos guilty of graft and ordered her arrest Friday in a rare conviction among many corruption cases that she plans to appeal to avoid jail and losing her seat in Congress. The special anti-graft Sandiganbayan court sentenced Marcos, 89, to serve 6 to 11 years in prison for each of the seven counts of violating an anti-corruption law when she illegally funneled about $200 million to Swiss foundations in the 1970s as Metropolitan Manila governor. Neither Marcos nor anyone representing her attended Friday’s court hearing.

I was at Clark Air Base during the Marcos presidency. For the most part, I like him. It was only after he was ousted and things were revealed that I knew the full picture.

But then, my Filipina wife (who is now with the Lord for 1 1/2 years now) told me that he orchestrated the revolution and riots and resulted in him declaring martial law.

And then there is Imelda.

There are the shoes . . . and the way she had the Beatles run out of the country. She wanted them to perform for her kids birthday party. They refused, they work for money. They were almost throttled at the airport.

I haven't looked into this latest thing with Imelda, but I would assume it's more of an attack against her entire faction.

I'm sure our Filipino members know all about it, but most of them are probably too polite to discuss it.
