Matthew 3:11 “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. But he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:”

Both
fire and water are of the Lord and are also shown in His words….

Fiery
law/ Testimony

Ministration of condemnation/ Ministration righteousness
Letter kills/ Spirit gives Life
Of judgment/ Of righteousness
Power of death/ Power of Life
Consuming fire/ Living waters

When you think about what
fire and water does in nature then you can appreciate this in a spiritual sense even more, as the Lord can rain down both fire and water from heaven. I think it would be edifying to post some scriptures along these lines concerning both the fire and the water, feel free to share.

I'll start off with an example in fire....

Genesis 3:24
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Deuteronomy 4:24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Fire is a figure of the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost tongues like as of fire descended on believers.

water is a figure of the Holy Spirit. Jn 7:38-39

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
KJV

I believe that water baptism is a figure of what must first ve done by the Holy Spirit.

Is this what I was looking at last night when I mailed you in the middle of the morn? Because this is what I was looking at (for different reasons).

Recall I said I was actually looking for words for something (while you were telling me you got up and were writing some down?)

Was this what you were looking at?

Only because this was what I was looking at weighing some things out when I got a writers block with it

Which would be kind of ironic (me needing words while your writing them down at 2 -3 am) lol!

This is all I got

Isaiah 30:20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:

As you can see I have writers block on this one, cause thats it lol. And because I was trying to contrast/ and or combine (somehow) the furnace of affliction (in respects to fiery trials) that come to try our faith and with the water of affliction and intricately lay out something I know I will screw up if trying to articulate (in a jack and jill went up the hill kind of way) lol

There is the rains and floods coming, as well as a flood of water out of the mouth of the dragon

What of the water (at Johns baptism as is shown in Jesus Christ) the anointing of the Holy Spirit which Jesus received (and was thus identified as Messiah) as by John which was followed by being a tested (as he is called a tried stone). Himself being driven by the same Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil (as Jesus Christ was).

A picture which follows the anointing of the Holy Ghost in the area of firey trials.

Christ, a tried stone as well, anointed by the Spirit driven by the same to be tempted (of the devil) and so being tried, tested, approved and who did come back in power through that specific time.

Yes, that was what I told you the Lord woke my ear up to at 2 am in the morn while I lay in my bed. LOL And yes, words like fire and water can be shown in an opposite reflection as well. Like you mentioned flood waters out of the mouth of the dragon, and the tongue kindling a fire, set on fire of hell....lake of fire etc.

You ever notice how they were cloven tongues....

Acts 2:3
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

I believe the cloven tongues signifies they were clean, as the cloven footed animals who chewed the cud were clean.

That is just too funny! I had this feeling (after I told you to go back to bed) that I actually should have asked you what you were receiving as I sat there knocking my head against the wall for some LOL!

I get up and get my coffee, I see you posted on Fire and water and I thought, how cool is that he is posting on what I was blocked on last night, and as I read I started laughing and the thought come to me to ask whether this was what it was that woke you up at 2 am (your time) that was the same thing blocking me at 3 am (my time)

But stranger has happened between us before (as you well know) LOL!

This just made my day, praise our great God sometimes I totally miss his provision in the simplest of things.

Too cool! I'll try to think of more now

Ok, another example of fire.....

Exodus 3:2
And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

Acts 7:30
And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

Mark 12:26[SUP]26 [/SUP]And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

Isaiah 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee;
and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:
when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;
neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Same is shown in
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were to cast into the burning fiery furnace.
Three being cast in but four being perceived as being there with them (the fourth like unto the Son of God)

Dan 3:27
And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together,

They saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power,
nor was an hair of their head singed,
neither were their coats changed,
nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;
neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

He talks about bringing the third part through the fire as well.

Here's an example of fire and water (hail) raining down from heaven...

Exodus 9:23
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

Exodus 9:24
So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

Psalm 105:32
He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.

Isaiah 30:30
And the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

Ezekiel 38:22
And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

Revelation 8:7
The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

What got me thinking about the words like fire was when I first explored the spiritual meaning of the Passover Lamb (Jesus) and how could it be shown in a spiritual sense of Him being roasted by fire.

Exodus 12:8-9[SUP]8 [/SUP]And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof."

We know Jesus wasn't literally roasted with fire on the cross, but in a spiritual sense he was roasted by hateful words...

James 3:5-6
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell."

And then I thought, well the opposite can be shown in Gods words kindling a fire as well...

Luke 12:49
I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

And that is what started the whole thought process. LOL

Exodus 13:21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

1 Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
1 Corinthians 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

Both water and fire used in cleansing and purification...

Numbers 31:23
Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

What got me was gather sticks (on the sabbath) to kindle a fire

You had to have caught that one (lol)

I posted on that a couple of times but I always thought wow, thats another way of looking at it (that still holds true) to the tongue being a fire also.

Abraham also, Isaac points out, the wood, knife, and fire (all three) but asks where is the Lamb.

You can see the elements in the same, putting it out correctly might be the challenge is all.
