Decided to post this on a new thread. The Bible says in John 8:32
"and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" It's in "red" so Jesus said it... but actually Jesus said the whole Bible not just what is in red btw.
I've also heard this explanation in helping to understand "how" the truth sets us free.., it's what we believe about the truth that sets us free. The Bible is there for us to read and to learn from the HolySpirit even more about Jesus., but we believe certain parts of the Bible and Jesus the way we were taught and many of us go no further our whole lives. It worked for Grandpa and Grandma and dad and mom and our family and we have been blessed in so many ways... but...
How come when Jesus went back to His hometown, He could not do many mighty works there??? Matt. 13:55-56 ???? I've often thought how come some Christians see God's hand in their lives in amazing ways and walk so close to Jesus that when they pray, God seems to hear them more than He seems to hear me?. If God's Word says He is not a respecter of persons, can I also have a Christian life like that??
So that was the challenge that was put to me and I think many of us Christians who are wanting to live a Spirit filled life with Him. Can it be so simple as faith? Is it like when Peter walked on water? When he kept his eyes on Jesus he was able to actually walk on water. But when he started looking around at the natural water and realized that he was really on the water and defying the laws of nature that was when he sunk.. Is it that simple?? I think it is that simple and we make it hard.
Reading this mornings email devotional prompted this thread. Are we so dead set in our ways of reading the Bible and so deep in our limited views of the Word of God that we don't dare go deeper and think of the possibilities? Sort of like the Amish who are truly blessed in their lives but go no further? Do they call our gospel a prosperity gospel? How often I've heard the phrase "health and wealth prosperity gospel" when in reality for me and many other Christians it's about trusting God at His Word and daring to step out and try Him.
Why did Jesus not do mighty works in his hometown of Nazareth? If we don't believe He can and will do these things., than He won't. That is not 'name it claim it' in the way that is debunked in some of the Christian world.., What that is? It's taking God at His word like people of faith are called to do.

[TD="colspan: 3, align: left"]Do you know that how you see Jesus determines what you receive from Him? If you see Jesus as your healer, you will receive healing. If you see Jesus as your refuge and fortress, you will receive protection.
The people of Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown, saw Jesus in the natural. They said of Him, “Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us?” (Matthew 13:55–56) They saw Jesus in the natural. They did not see Him as God in the flesh. As a result, He could not do many mighty works there. (Matthew 13:58)
Today, many people, including some philosophers, see Jesus of Nazareth as a good person who led an exemplary life. They feel that if all of us could live our lives like Him, the world would be a better place.
They don’t see Jesus as the bread of God who came from heaven to give life to the world. (John 6:33) They don’t see Him as the one who came to give them living water, so that they would never thirst again. (John 4:14) They don’t see Him as the Lamb of God, who took away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) They don’t receive from Him what they need because they don’t esteem Him rightly.
Jesus did not come just to set a good example for man to follow. He came to be our Redeemer. (Galatians 3:13) He came to be our righteousness. (1 Corinthians 1:30) He came to be our shepherd, so that we will not lack anything. (Psalm 23:1)
Jesus asked His disciples once, “But who do you say that I am?” How you answer this question depends on how you see Jesus. And how you see Jesus will determine how and what you receive from Him. So see Him as your God, as everything He claims to be in His Word, and He will do mighty works in your life
