Decided to post this on a new thread. The Bible says in John 8:32
"and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" It's in "red" so Jesus said it... :D but actually Jesus said the whole Bible not just what is in red btw.

I've also heard this explanation in helping to understand "how" the truth sets us free.., it's what we believe about the truth that sets us free. The Bible is there for us to read and to learn from the HolySpirit even more about Jesus., but we believe certain parts of the Bible and Jesus the way we were taught and many of us go no further our whole lives. It worked for Grandpa and Grandma and dad and mom and our family and we have been blessed in so many ways... but...

How come when Jesus went back to His hometown, He could not do many mighty works there??? Matt. 13:55-56 ???? I've often thought how come some Christians see God's hand in their lives in amazing ways and walk so close to Jesus that when they pray, God seems to hear them more than He seems to hear me?. If God's Word says He is not a respecter of persons, can I also have a Christian life like that??

So that was the challenge that was put to me and I think many of us Christians who are wanting to live a Spirit filled life with Him. Can it be so simple as faith? Is it like when Peter walked on water? When he kept his eyes on Jesus he was able to actually walk on water. But when he started looking around at the natural water and realized that he was really on the water and defying the laws of nature that was when he sunk.. Is it that simple?? I think it is that simple and we make it hard.

Reading this mornings email devotional prompted this thread. Are we so dead set in our ways of reading the Bible and so deep in our limited views of the Word of God that we don't dare go deeper and think of the possibilities? Sort of like the Amish who are truly blessed in their lives but go no further? Do they call our gospel a prosperity gospel? How often I've heard the phrase "health and wealth prosperity gospel" when in reality for me and many other Christians it's about trusting God at His Word and daring to step out and try Him.

Why did Jesus not do mighty works in his hometown of Nazareth? If we don't believe He can and will do these things., than He won't. That is not 'name it claim it' in the way that is debunked in some of the Christian world.., What that is? It's taking God at His word like people of faith are called to do.

[TD="colspan: 3, align: left"]Do you know that how you see Jesus determines what you receive from Him? If you see Jesus as your healer, you will receive healing. If you see Jesus as your refuge and fortress, you will receive protection.
The people of Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown, saw Jesus in the natural. They said of Him, “Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us?” (Matthew 13:55–56) They saw Jesus in the natural. They did not see Him as God in the flesh. As a result, He could not do many mighty works there. (Matthew 13:58)
Today, many people, including some philosophers, see Jesus of Nazareth as a good person who led an exemplary life. They feel that if all of us could live our lives like Him, the world would be a better place.
They don’t see Jesus as the bread of God who came from heaven to give life to the world. (John 6:33) They don’t see Him as the one who came to give them living water, so that they would never thirst again. (John 4:14) They don’t see Him as the Lamb of God, who took away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) They don’t receive from Him what they need because they don’t esteem Him rightly.
Jesus did not come just to set a good example for man to follow. He came to be our Redeemer. (Galatians 3:13) He came to be our righteousness. (1 Corinthians 1:30) He came to be our shepherd, so that we will not lack anything. (Psalm 23:1)
Jesus asked His disciples once, “But who do you say that I am?” How you answer this question depends on how you see Jesus. And how you see Jesus will determine how and what you receive from Him. So see Him as your God, as everything He claims to be in His Word, and He will do mighty works in your life

Yes, I believe that it is as simple as keeping our eyes fixed upon Jesus. The hard part, though, is that He'll often lead us places where we normally wouldn't choose to go.

It was unbelief that hindered Jesus but I don't want people to feel indicted so I'll leave it at that,

He did however he did say be it into you according to you by your belief...........

Jesus said: John 14:6
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. KJV

Since Jesus personifies THE TRUTH, when He says, in Jn 8:32, that the truth will set you free; he is saying that He will do it; or has done it (on the Cross) Himself.

He has indeed freed us from the power of sin; and freed us to have active fellowship with Him and with the Father. In addition His indwelling Holy Spirit's empowering has freed us from the constraints of our bodily weakness.

Why did Jesus not do many works in His hometown?

Matt 13:58 He did not many miracles because of thier lack of faith.

Matt 9:29. According to your faith will it be done to you.

When you know the truth of what Jesus did you will be free,
free to trust God in all areas and all your decisions.

OK, but what if we have that sure foundation that He loves us and we can believe He will help us in time of need? What if we trust Him like His Word instructs us to do?..Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding., in all thy ways acknowledge Him and he WILL direct your path" So we all want Him to direct our paths and we want to be in His will. Will we be afraid then? I've only been afraid when I didn't know.

When I started really trusting His love for me and that He was not out to "zap me" to see if I'd fail, that is when walking with Him became a joyful adventure and not a tedious religious ritual of doing to get. He gives and gives. The Joy of the Lord is our strength., He is not the author of confusion and is not looking to confuse us with oddball testings. He wants us established and rooted in Him. Not afraid of Him.
As I heard someone say, the Christian life is not hard, it's impossible. In the natural it is hard and impossible and in our human reasoning it is hard and impossible. But in faith, it's not going to be.

If we know He is leading we follow with assurance., and that old hymn taken from the bible is something we will sing. For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've committed unto Him against that day. If we know He loves us and is really with us we can take anything that comes. But why do we assume He is going to send pain, sickness and death? I think it is because of the "religious" teaching that is no different than any other religion that says God is a taskmaster and not a Father. Religion does not understand Grace. And the enemy wants us to think God is not for us like he tricked Eve in the garden to doubt God's love and care for her and Adam. That God would withhold something good from them. When God all along protected them from something wrong and harmful.

Yes, for salvation and for after salvation. Both take our part to believe the truth. If it is not believed., it will not be true for you. If you don't accept Jesus, you will not be saved.
If you don't believe Jesus loves you, you won't apply His love to every aspect of your life.

Both. That is what makes all the difference in the walk. To know it sets us free and then to know how to allow it to set us free. If we don't know the promises than how can we apply them?

We are free from the law of sin and death. What else would you like to be free from? Fear of other people? Fear of what others think of you, how they judge you? If we keep our focus on Him, and are blameless in our walk with Him, how can what others think of us penetrate our helmet of salvation? Do you fear the future? That is a common one. It is so easy to say, keep your focus on Him, and He will direct your paths. But I believe it. I have been experiencing this recently. I know I can trust Him, but still I resist. Leaning on my own understanding... That causes me some anxiety.

Also, the Bible says His Word is truth. He is the Word and the Word has instruction and truth for us to walk in. Yes truth is personified in Jesus and it is also says in John 17:17
Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth."

Jesus is truth it is relational meaning we must have a relationship with Him. You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. He has set us free from sin and death. We must believe and accept it. My sheep hear my voice and they follow me.

You read the scriptures because in them you think you have eternal life but they are testifying of me (Jesus) a way to get to know and understand Him better. Jesus is truth....We must have a relationship with Him and know Him intimately.....So we know and recognize His voice and not that of the deceiver......

This is true; and we are told in Jn 1:1-14 that Jesus is also the Word.

How many of us know what "free from the law of sin and death" actually means? How many of us really know that salvation is more than being saved from Hell? It's also being set free from guilt and shame.. being free from the accusations of the devil who is a liar and the accuser of the brethren. The enemy counts on us not knowing or understanding the Bible and the promises that are there for us.

So finding out what being free from the "law" of sin and death means is major. But I've been saved for some 30yrs and only just recently found out what that entails.
Like you said Magenta., keeping our focus on Him is an easy Christian thing to say but do we know how to do that when the world and the devil come pounding on the "natural" door of our lives? Or do we sink like Peter did because of the huge waves that overshadow the Word we heard just that morning (and the Word Who was looking right at Peter at the time he started sinking)

when you make that statement which I am more in agreement with you now as I continue to learn but you will need to explain the scriptures that talk about being blotted out also.

Being free from the law of sin and death to me means I believe the promise of eternal life. I do not know what that is going to look like, though. I cannot really imagine it at all;
However, as it is written: "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived" -- the things God has prepared for those who love him-- Also, hell is a word translated from four other words in the Scriptures: Gehenna, Sheol, Hades, and Tartarus, all of which mean basically the grave or resting place of the dead. The dead know nothing. The wages is sin is death, not eternal conscious torment. Eternal life is granted only to those who accept what God has offered through His Son Jesus Christ. But yes, freeing ourselves from the torments of Satan... the guilt and shame, the temptations, the lies our minds tell us. It would be heavenly to be free of this. Somebody just told me that my flesh is dead, but I am still breathing. My flesh is alive.

So finding out what being free from the "law" of sin and death means is major. But I've been saved for some 30yrs and only just recently found out what that entails.

More often than not we sink. That is what it is to be human. But we keep picking ourselves up and turning back to Him. That is what it is to be Christian.

Everybody's name is in the book of life. Believers have the promise that they will never be blotted out.

Unbelievers get blotted out at their physical death.

The book of life plays a big part in the age of accountability and those who are retarded. They are in the book of life and safe because they never mentally reach accountability.
