Billy Graham was not really a teacher or preacher. He did bring the message of Salvation to the World but he never was a teacher.

Look to others for the teaching of the Scriptures. There are many very good teachers of the Word out there but unfortunately today we have no such teachers anymore. Read the books written long ago and you will find Truths in them that we do not see today.

There are many very good teachers of what God says in the Bible who lived a long time ago. Look up these people instead. See what they have to say. Many Churches today have walked away from the Truth.

I left a certain Church two years ago because of what they taught. This Church actually taught you could not receive Salvation if you were a democrat. This Church was also very heavy into Evolution.

The teachers today and Churches today have left the Truth from God to listen to the World. So beware, be wise as to who you listen to.

Have you ever heard Phil or his sons preach? They are CoC, but their minds and hearts have expanded far beyond that dead doctrine.

You might enjoy the YouTube video of Phil's sermon at Saddleback.

I've been wondering about your references to CoC in your posts Willie-T. What is it? I will take a look at "Phil's" sermon later after I mow the lawn. it's getting hot fast here in NY. The appeal of those guys runs deep here in UpState NY so I've no doubt I can appreciate their video. Thanks, will "expand" my horizons thanks to your sharing your appreciation for them.
I respect your opinions as well and your sense of humor. ;) Totally agree with you... we take ourselves waaaay toooooo seriously and need to see the humor in each other.

Every age has its own outlook. It is specially good at seeing certain truths and specially liable to make certain mistakes. We all, therefore, need the books that will correct the characteristic mistakes of our own period. And that means the old books. All contemporary writers share to some extent the contemporary outlook—even those, like myself, who seem most opposed to it. … To be sure, the books of the future would be just as good a corrective as the books of the past, but unfortunately we cannot get at them..C.S. Lewis

This might fill you in some on the CoC.

It's just audio, so you can listen to it in the background while continuing in the forum, or doing other things. To tell you the truth, I haven't listened to this one all the way through, but he seems to speak it all pretty accurately.

Not a problem. I usually wait for the authors to be dead and still praised by others as worth reading, before I buy any Christian book. Most modern Christian books are garbage, (including Utmost for His Highest which tends to have an eastern religion meets Christianity spin to it.):D

oh at last!!!

someone else who just does NOT like that book...I find it kind of creepy...brrrrrrr

My wife rates it only about 80% worth reading. Me... I didn't read it all the way through.

cross,

your 'discernment' is so 'refreshing', we only hope that those, like us, who were deceived into
whatever was 'popular' and 'accepted' at the 'time', will have the balls and heart to go above and beyond
what we were 'indoctrinated' into.

Well, back in '84 I nearly swallowed the 'inner healing' craze, and it was my girlfriend (now wife) that had to talk sense to me :p...of course she was paying me back for talking her out of the WOF movement :)

...we need each other.

I don't think Graham would have been loved in pagan Rome, neither will he be loved in 30 years from now in the new pagan America (if the Lord tarrys).

Well..... I tend to believe he has been & still is..... jus' sayin'. :)

I really have investigated Billy Graham and have come to the conclusion he is a wonderful man of God who has been used for many years to bring many souls to Christ. It just goes to show a man or woman can do so much right and be led of the Lord all their lives and YET still be condemned by his brothers in Christ. Just annoys me Stephen63. If we could alll just be a little bit like Billy Graham and effect people for Christ in our small radius of influence in our lives, the world would be a much better place. When you and others who condemn your brothers and sisters in Christ can do that,.... then come back and maybe there would be some merit to your opinions. But until then., you guys are just annoying.
Which statement isn't true:
He is soooo adored by the world.....
Jesus said the world would hate christians & love their own.

I have always thought...why read a book about the bible when you can just read the bible...one is accompanied by the Holy Spirit of God...the other is not!
Ding, ding ding!!!! We have a winner!

Some of you will understand this, some of you won't. I can't do anything about that. But if all I ever had was the Bible I very possibly would never have become a Christian.

All my family members are Irish Catholics and Polish Catholics and I have been in many pictures with them. What does this mean... I'm sinning by association? Hardly. Billy Graham was a well known "religious" person in the world and unsaved people flocked around him. Why is this such a shock? Until people get convicted they need a Savior, they have no idea they are any different than you or I. They just think your a very "religious" person who they don't mind associating with. God put Billy Graham in many people's lives so he could give out the Gospel especially to key people in the govt. and religious world.

I guess it's all in how you want to look at it Stephen. Many people found fault with Jesus for sitting and eating with publicans and sinners.... Those Pharisees had a lot of condemnation for Jesus. And HE was perfect. No wonder we are told not to judge our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Another thought, how can you ever hope to see the fish clean until first you catch them? We are told to go out into all the world. I'd say Billy did a pretty good job of that. We should all be so faithful.

Yeah. It seems quite a few of us forget that Jesus TOLD us to go to the unsaved..... AND that He, Himself, was seen with them more than He was with the so-called "righteous" people. He would have been in hundreds and hundreds of photos with them.

I said pagan Rome, (as in the days under the early Emperors before Constantine), not Roman Catholicism or ecumenical Rome.

If I bash a well known Christian like Billy Graham or CS Lewis then it makes me feel more devout and holy and exclusive.

If you add the RCC, then you have to specify what period of time e.g. inquisition/dark ages vs Ecumenical Vatican II
