The number one enemy of the Lord Jesus Christ is the so-called "Christian religion"....not the dreaded "sin" that everyone is afraid of...seeing that Jesus took care of the sin problem for humanity with His precious Blood!

I dont not have much time right now, so I'll let Robert Capon speak for me, he does a better job than I would anyways.....

"Religion consists of all the things (believing, behaving, worshiping, sacrificing) the human race has ever thought it had to do to get right with God. About those things, Christianity has only two comments to make. The first is that none of them ever had the least chance of doing the trick: the blood of bulls and goats can never take away sins (see the Epistle to the Hebrews) and no effort of ours to keep the law of God can ever finally succeed (see the Epistle to the Romans). The second is that everything religion tried (and failed) to do has been perfectly done, once and for a
ll, by Jesus in his death and resurrection. For Christians, therefore, the entire religion shop has been closed, boarded up, and forgotten. The church is not in the religion business. It never has been and it never will be, in spite of all the ecclesiastical turkeys through two thousand years who have acted as if religion was their stock in trade. The church, instead, is in the Gospel-proclaiming business. It is not here to bring the world the bad news that God will think kindly about us only after we have gone through certain creedal, liturgical and ethical wickets; it is here to bring the world the Good News that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for the ungodly.” It is here, in short, for no religious purpose at all, only to announce the Gospel of free grace."

While this article says a lot of good things it missuses the word religion. That is my only point. That is my problem with this generation they change the meaning of words. Religion has become a bad word but the reality is it is not a bad word. Its what the religion consists of that makes it good or bad.

Jesus taught truth, to believe In God and that Jesus was the messiah and that His works on our behalf save us. If you believe that and worship God because of those teachings and uphold those teachings and teach them to others then you are religious teaching a religion. Just happens to be a good one full of truth.

Gospel of free grace is redundant.
The law came through Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Just because many try to distort the gospel and make grace seem like something that it isn't, doesn't ever make the free grace Christ speaks about redundant.

Jas 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

That is a very good scripture that is talking about "doing things"....and it is true that our doing good things will reflect what is in our hearts!

Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

What I meant was that the gospel is the message of free grace. To say "the message of free grace of free grace" is being redundant.

I am not talking about the grace the hyper grace movement is claiming. Because the truth is that anyone who goes beyond what is written doesn't have God. And when hyper grace teaches you do not need to follow Christ's teachings they do not have God.

maybe I shouldn't have used the word free so no one would be confused. Because the truth is it wasn't free Christ gave His life on the cross for it.

I should have read all the posts I just do not want false doctrine like hyper grace to distort and deceive people from what Christ did for those who believe and abide in Him

Religion is of this world. Jesus is from heaven.

Religion tells us to do. Jesus tells us it is done.

Religion tells us to focus on sin in the flesh in order to modify our behavior. Jesus tells us to focus on Him in the Spirit in order to bring forth the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. ( this one is going to hurt )

Religion says our heart as a believer is evil still. Jesus says our heart as a believer is new and good, with no evil.

Religion is all about the outward and seen. Jesus is all about the inward and unseen.

Religion tries to repair and fix the old creation. Jesus made us a New Creation!

Religion’s yoke is hard work. Jesus said His yoke was easy.

Religion uses fear to manipulate people to act. Jesus’ love compels people to act, with joy!

Religion is proud. Jesus is humble.

Religion says we must continually confess our sins to stay cleansed and righteous. Jesus says our sins have been taken away, past, present and future, and they are no longer being counted against us!

Religion says that sins are being counted against the believer. Jesus says His righteousness is being counted for the believer!

Religion is blind. Jesus gives us new eyes to see the unseen.

Religion is all about the knowledge of good and evil. Jesus is all about His Life in us!

Religion is boring. Jesus is an unexpected journey and adventure!

Religion is an old cell phone where the service has been cancelled. Jesus is a new cell phone with new service!

Religion is insecure. Jesus is confident and secure.

Religion is competitive and envious. Jesus is a rest.

Religion says we must love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength first! Jesus said He first loved us and that we are to believe first that He loves us with all His heart, soul, mind and strength!

Religion thinks itself wise. Jesus thinks Religion is foolish.

Religion is a dead end. Jesus is an open door to endless possibilities!

Religion is man-centered. Jesus is God-centered.

Religion wants to control other men. Jesus wants to set men free to live by Him.

Religion is death. Jesus is Life!

Religion is depressing. Jesus is joy unspeakable and full of glory!

Religion keeps people in a boat that is sinking. Jesus empowers people to walk out of the boat onto the water to Him!

Religion’s gospel is “fear the Lord and obey His commandments!” Jesus’ gospel is “believe on Me and fear not, for I give you my righteousness!”

Religion is about rules to keep. Jesus is about His love to receive.

Religion tries to get people to keep God’s laws so that the people will be righteous. Jesus tries to get people to see that He kept all the laws for them and they need only believe in Him to be righteous.

Religion is bondage. Jesus is freedom!

Religion needs money to exist. Jesus’ life needs no silver or gold to live and prosper!

Religion is mean to you when you do not agree with it. Jesus is kind even to those who nailed His hands and feet.

Religion says to change you must see your sin! Jesus says to change you must look away from your sin and see Him!

Religion is Satan’s tool. Jesus is God’s Son!

Guess who wins in the end! : )

I choose Jesus!!!

Religion is of this world. Jesus is from heaven.
This is a false comparison. Following Jesus is a religion, a metaphysical definition of God, a way of having a relationship with God and the world around us.

Those who rebel or who reject those around them without discernment talk like this. Jesus defended the temple of Soloman, and over turned the money changers for turning Gods instituted way of seeking forgiveness through sacrifice as a way of making money. So rather than rejecting religion he spoke about the true way to approach God.

I respect peoples attempts to reach out to the thing they do not know and their sincere efforts to live good lives.

Unfortunately the op believes he is preaching Jesus, while polarising the discussion into simple extremes.

What is the problem in the world is not religion and has never been, but sin and people hiding it.
What God stands for is truth and justice.

Islam says the problem is everyone has the wrong religion, they have corrupted the truth and destroyed the morality of mankind. This argument is almost a mirror of this, and almost as pointless.

On this list

Religion is death. No sin is death.

Jesus says it is sin that makes us blind and slaves, and from sin we need to be set free.
It is Jesus's heart that love is the thing that overcomes sin, planted in us through the cross.

It is by obeying Jesus's commands that we are transformed, letting love work out its way in us.

I once met someone who claimed they had tried to love someone and be nice. That other person was nasty back so they gave up. This is not the level of love Jesus is talking about. He is talking about dying for other people to bring them life.

I have had people here claim they have lived this life and it failed them. I do not believe them, because this is following Jesus.

In this weired world they claim they have had the experience of meeting Christ yet do not walk in righteousness, because righteousness is too difficult.

There is only one Jesus....the One who bought and paid for us with His precious blood. The One with the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness! The One that fills our heart with love for Him and others. The One who lives through and in us to be a blessing to others. The One who has created in us a new heart..the new creation in Him. The One who fills our heart with joy and peace. The One who is Lord of all! The One who is the author and finisher of our faith! The One who started our new life in Him and He is the One who will perfect us!

He is the awesome One! We love Him. We belong to Him. He is from our loving, good, good Father, who does this for us..

Ephesians 2:4-7 (NASB)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
[SUP]5 [/SUP] even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
[SUP]6 [/SUP] and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
[SUP]7 [/SUP] so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

You got me all excited here when I stopped to think of who Jesus is and what He has done for us!

I love Jesus, He is my salvation and worthy sacrifice so I don't need "religion". I can read His Word to see who I am and listen to His Spirit who will guide me into all truth, renew my mind and conform my character to His.

Who needs religion instead of mercy and lovingkindness?

Of course, we wouldn't even know about Jesus if People within the church He founded didn't write about Him.
