I would rather understand one Scripture than memorize one thousand Scriptures.

Proverbs 20:5 - Counsel in the heart of man [is like] deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

which one would that be? ;)

you know, on the serious side, I don't memorize yet I find myself remembering verses so easily...I think maybe it's a gift of the Holy Spirit...bringing to my mind what I have read/studied...funny thing is, it can be in the KJV alot of the times LOL!

Actually, I found that memorizing scripture gives me a better understanding of it because I read it so many times. And since I've memorized great portions, like the book of Colossians, I can read the bible no matter where I am, even if I have no bible to read.

definitely the spirit, Gods word when we begin to meditate on it, believing it.. becomes new thoughts lining up with scripture and continually the spirit will remind us of His word, "renewing of the mind"

Very true.
Especially as many (myself included) tend to quote bible verses when wanting to help, forgetting that it was given in a context that doesn't apply to the person we're trying to help.

I once read that a lot of the KJV was written (and Hebrew, too) for easy memorization.

I think too it's because the KJV is what most churches used when we were first saved so we remember verses that way.

Interesting that the scriptures inform us in Romans no one in respect to their human nature seeks after God who has no form, no one understands.(impossible)

We gain his understanding as he teaches us . And we remember what he has taught us as he works in us.

That leaves no room for human error. or a dependence on our memory coming from a heart that is deceitful. In that way it is twofold .He teaches us and brings what he has taught us to comfort us .

That is if you use the King James LOL

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
