pretty sure he just meant the poll had no value to him, not eternity.
that's justifiable - here's a Biblical example of a poll:
“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.
“Barabbas,” they answered.
“What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked.
They all answered, “Crucify him!”
“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
(Matthew 27:21-23)
so you see, polls neither necessarily have any value nor establish any sort of truth.
interestingly, that's also a Biblical example of democracy in action, by the way. another would be the Israelites getting Aaron to make them a golden calf, and later demanding that Samuel anoint a king over them. these actions were taken & justified by popular vote.
