Do you have any suggestions where I should read first, or a favorite book, chapter or verse(s)? I need all the help I can get. :)

You can begin at the book of John. Which is the life & gospel of Christ.

I pick up the daily bread, which is a small devotional book based on seasons. So this current one goes from September to November, the fall. And whatever recommended passage is for that day's reading, I read.

I like reading those. I can get them free at the church next to the library here. :)

Actually the best book to read is 1 John. 1 John is the flagship of all the books written by John.

I suggest starting at Matthew and reading to the end of Revelations and then starting at Genesis and reading the Old testament.. Take your time.. Don't force the pace.. Pray for understanding from God before you read.. Keep reading no matter if you cannot figure it out.. Sometimes reading another part of the Bible will unlock understanding of a portion of the Bible you read but had no idea what it was saying..

good for you, bluebug!! :)

i suggest prayer about it, then choose a book and read it from beginning to end.
er, perhaps not in a single day. but you might!

i try to read a psalm and a chapter of Proverbs each day, in addition to whatever book i'm reading.

may the Lord richly bless you in this, friend! ♥

First of all before you begin....pray! Each person is different in what they like to read. Do you like studying certain subjects or do you just want to read? Do you like poetry or history or the epistle or the gospel or prophesy? What would interest you? If you are that interested in something then you will not retain as much. Once you know where your interest lies then you can begin to read. I myself like John and Ecclesiastes. But at other times i like studying certain subjects. Again pray first so God can speak to you thru what you read.

I like the Psalms the best. And Matthew.. I never read Revelations because I don't understand it at all.. lol

Well then you have what NOT to read lol Start with the Psalms then. There is much to learn in the Psalms. Since you enjoy the Psalms then you will retain it. God wants us to read His Word but also learn from His Word. That would be a good starting point for you. You could also study by doing cross refrencing and really dig into the Word. "Hmmm wonder what else God says about this?" Look it up in other passages so you can gain better understanding.

Think of the Bible as a book of adventures (a storybook). Maybe as a detective mystery with the solution in the back! Don't tackle it primarily as a doctrine manual or as a book on how to live. Both of those are there in the story, though.

We just finished reading the book of Psalms yesterday. A chapter or two a day of the reading of the bible is a good pace.

1-2 psalms/day one in the morning/ one in the evening and in 75 days you will have all of psalms done.... good imo for meditating/devotion in the morning/evening....short and sweet but powerful verses...

I would start at the beginning and read all the way through. It doesn't take that long. Or maybe you'd like to start with the New Testament, read that, and then read the Old Testament.

If you need to get started You could get a bible reading plan like The Upper Room.
It will tell you what verses to read (normally not much) then there is a devotional, normally related to the bible verses.
+ a prayer topic and a sort of word of wisdom

Pray and then follow what the Holy Spirit tells you.

For my morning reading and private God time.
I read 1 Proverb for each day of the month, there are 31 proverbs
I read 5 Psalms for each day of the month, there are 150 Psalms.
I read Psalm 119 all by itself.

I then follow the Holy Spirits leading in personal Bible study
Right now I am doing topic studies on different words.

Honestly I don't read the bible near as much I should, I remember when I first became saved I devoured the word for the first two weeks taking in everything i read as if it was the most amazing food or the sweetest wine but then after that suddenly it wasn't like that anymore and I kept asking God why but never did receive an answer.

For me my daily meal of the word is mainly online I will be either discussing the bible on cc or looking scripture up online, I have been told I am very knowledgeable in the word of God but you wouldn't think so considering that i don't often sit and read the bible at least the book itself I too want this to change I want that hunger back I want to devour the word as I did in my youth in Christ
