Re: TRUMP ROCKS! RUSSIA TALKS! HILLARY WALKS! BUT, NO "SESSIONS" FOR SEN. SESSION

Realistically, I doubt Jeff Sessions is going to take an excessively hard line on drugs, especially when it comes to cannabis and petty possession. Regardless of his personal feelings, the political climate (on both sides of the aisle, mind you) regarding drugs and criminal justice has changed dramatically in recent years, and I'm sure he knows it.

A draconian crackdown on drug possession would destroy the reputation of Mr. Sessions, and it would reflect poorly on the Trump administration as whole.
First, Trump will not care about the drug pushers.

Mr Sessions will be the top cop but that does not mean he LIKE OBAMA will interfere with states rights. I am for Mr. Sessions and hope he puts his foot on this Black-lives matter deal immediately.

Re: TRUMP ROCKS! RUSSIA TALKS! HILLARY WALKS! BUT, NO "SESSIONS" FOR SEN. SESSION

It's not the Senator's positions, it's the State he is from, Alabama, and the racial history, and the new bi-partisan support for justice reform. He has stated that he supports the old, failed, "just say no!" regime that imprisoned countless minorities, many of whom had/have no access to legal help because of a justice system that favors those who can afford legal help, and/or who may have an education to fight against unjust laws and a few corrupt prosecutors who can be like vicious wolves, caring nothing about justice or the rule of law, ethics, or minorities, only about who they can "devour," to justify their incomes. The majority of state and federal prosecutors are ethical and honorable, of course, and, honor the rule of law themselves.

Police Chief, Leonard Companello of Glaucester, Massachusetts,(Movie, "Perfect Storm") is an example of the new bipartisan efforts to create an equal, honest, and ethical justice system for those whose lives are ravaged by addictions. Chief Companello, got to know the addicts personally and their families in his district and realized, as do many police precincts in America, that arresting addicts for addictions amounts to "cruel and unusual punishment," and many of them die in jail without de-tox facilities or medical attention. Most officers don't like arresting these poor people who are suffering, but they are required to, and many times there is no other place for them to go. This "treatment over incarceration," approach is the right approach to the heroin epidemic. Chief Companello speaks across the nation regarding this issue, and represents the realities of life on the street, and unfortunately, he has had to give the eulogies for some of these people for whom help came too late. It's not because of his department, however, which has inspired many departments across the country to adopt his approach to drug offenses related to addiction. This would also free officers to go after dealers and violent offenders who have no regard for the law.

Sen. Sessions should NOT accept this position in the interest of national peace.

are we not a little race mongering here. I think you will find the Democrats of Alabama have that problem.

Attorney General in America is not the "top cop," is he/she? But, top attorney-- What is the Black-lives matter deal, and why do you oppose it?

Technically the AG is the county's "top cop" since the AG heads the DoJ which not only oversees the federal prosecutors, but also federal law enforcement agencies (FBI, DEA, BATF), and federal prisons.

Why are people biased against Alabama? I don't support Trump, but I support him appointing Jeff Sessions. Roll Tide!
There is a lot of History of Alabama you maybe should look up. I don't think we need to go further into it anywhere on this forum.

As I stated Mr. Jeff Sessions will make a good AG. Roll Tide, am cheering for him on Monday Jan 8, 2017.

Yes, there is a lot of history about the great state of Alabama of which people are unaware.

(1)The Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American flying unit in the U.S. military, were trained in Alabama. Their accomplished combat record, including the accumulation of more than 850 medals, was an important factor in President Truman’s decision to desegregate armed forces in 1948.

(2) 1881 Dr. George Washington Carver carried out his famous agricultural research.

(3) THE definitive novel about race, To Kill a Mockingbird was written by an Alabamian.

I could go on. I find it insulting to insinuate that a who segment of the population is ineligible for federal office simple because they are white males born in the deep South. This is racism, or maybe regionalism.

Sorry, part of this was meant for the original poster- the second half. I know you support Sessions, but I disliked your 'Alabama history' quote.

I am sorry you did not approve of what I said about Alabama.. Every state, region has it 'skeletons in the closet'. I only meant the bad racism of old, comments about this or any other state have no room here on these forums. Of course that is my opinion... Rem, I lived through this era and know first hand what went on. I understand Alabama has a lot of good history that its people should be very proud of. I hope this helps you understand where I am coming from.

I think the whole nation should move on now that it appears we are NOT trying to derail everyone into a one world (global) government of socialism.

To shed some light here, we Alabamians sometimes feel like the red-headed step child of the United States. I blame Neil Young. Fortunately, Lynyrd Skynyrd set him straight. We tend to be defensive when our state is attacked. Really, the op is the offender in this thread. Our state motto is "We Dare Defend Our Rights", so that might be why we are a little fiesty in pouncing on your history comment. I don't even post on the News Subforum, but this thread riled me up enough to post. Thanks for being gracious. God Bless, and thanks for supporting Sessions, who really is an honorable politician.

Thank-you for defending your state with positive history. You look like someone that shouldn't be riled-- And my Uncle who was a decorated WWII war veteran lived in Alabama, though I have never visited. There is good PR for Alabama like the movie, "Forrest Gump," even though there were racial undertones in the movie, and the movie, "My Cousin Vinny," was about life in the South. I'm a country guy at heart, and grew up in a small farm town and our band played Lynyrd Skynyrd songs, but, unfortunately there were no African American students at our high school. But, I have good friends who are Black African Americans. And, having been oppressed in many ways throughout my lifetime, I can more easily understand oppressed people.

But, many people in America have not lived in the South, and some of our understanding comes from media, like movies. And I think it's fair to say that there are still remnants of racism still entrenched in southern culture. There are three strikes against an Anglo politician from the south being the "top cop," of America, especially considering the racial tensions in America due to high profile accidental deaths involving minorities.
1) He favors past obsolete, failed policies that are pretty much winding around like a nursery toy puppet, building up tensions.
2) He's white.
3) Any Anglo politician from the South will inherently endanger the lives and safety of police officers due to the racial tensions in America.

While I support Donald Trump as president for many reasons, including his defeat of the liberal threat to the unborn, and liberal support of non-traditional marriage, any Anglo politician Attorney General from the south would personally be responsible for the perpetuation of violence against law enforcement, who are already maxed out enforcing useless obsolete drug enforcement policies, simply because of representing an office of "top cop," and being seen as a "white dude from the South." These kinds of cultural dynamics that are ingrained in society take decades, even centuries to change.

Appointing a "white dude from the south," would equate to facilitating: "POP! GOES THE WEASEL!!"
And, because they know that's exactly what could happen, i.e, --racial tensions could explode--
anyone who would dare to accept such a nomination, would immediately be seen as a racist, for one, and they would knowingly be consenting to the "reckless endangerment" of America's law enforcement officers.
That's a pretty bad start for an Attorney General, if you ask me.

Don't worry, I have no intentions of beating you up. So, it's okay for me to be riled. I'll just disagree with you vehemently online. I read that you get your impressions about the South from Hollywood movies. I would suggest that maybe that's not the best route to go when appraising the culture of any group of people you have not visited yourself. Forrest Gump and My Cousin Vinny are not exactly nonfiction.

Race relations are in a bad way, and the current Attorney General is not a white dude from the South, so your argument is invalid.

Hi Galatea...how are you doing today.

reading your reply brings memories about how people have a perception of the South through the TV or Theaters. Back in the early 70's I was stationed in Washington State (Tacoma). I and my wife lived outside the base in an apartment complex of sorts. While we made many friends there, our closet friends had been raised in that area. The wife of my friend was, as most people of this time period were; ignorant of how people in other states lived including myself. At that time, there was a show called Hee-Haw that came out of Nashville, TN. She really thought that people in that state talked and lived like they did in that sit-com. It was so funny at the time but looking back on it, it really is very sad. This situation of getting impressions from Hollywood, TV or other avenues have grown exponentially since that time and appears to be getting worse.

Hello, Mr. Bladerunner, I am fine.
Thank you for sharing your anecdote. I think it is rather ridiculous to rely on Hollywood or television for authoritative information about people in any area. Even documentaries can't show the entire truth, but a slice of life- and even those slices may be biased according to the agenda of the documentary makers. I remember watching Magnum P.I. and thinking that was what Hawaii was all about, but in my defense, I was a child at the time.
