Matthew 7:21-23 NKJV
[21] "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom
of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. [22] Many
will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your
name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your
name?' [23] And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart
from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
I was reading the above verses and it occurred to me, that it's
possible to follow Jesus like a remote groupie.
You know the type, people who drop celeb names into conversations
but who don't really know them.
People who say I know a friend of a cousin who had a brother who knows the
cleaner of the hotel Elvis stayed at.
Or people who join the fringes of the crowd to get a glimpse of the queen
during her parades. Then they go around saying queen this and queen that.
Its possible to do that with Jesus.
He does not want groupies, or people who go name dropping.
He wants a true close relationship with us. Otherwise just like
Elvis and the queen, Jesus might turn around and say "I never knew you".
Its a sobering thought isn't it.
