In discussion of Marks Gospel, it had been noted that demons address Jesus, fall to His feet, and call Him Son of God. (As in Chapter 5, with the man in the tombs, and the demons known as "legion" asked to be transfered into the bodies of the pigs.) Further on in discussion it was said that if we become children of God, the Holy Spirit enters our soul and protects us from demons trying to occupy us . (Because Holy Spirit won't allow a demon in to be a room mate) Holy Spirit can protect us and comfort and encourage us. My question is then, why did Jesus suffer temptations in both the desert and the Garden when He prayed before His crucifixion? Why did He suffer these agonies that Holy Spirit is sent down to help us with? Why are we offered the protections of Holy Spirit when we give ourselves to God, but the Son of God Himself had to fight against these strongest temptations?

The way i understood is we are not immune to evil just for having the Spirit. But Jesus is a prime example of what we must do when faced with temptations and trials. We must listen to the guidance of the Spirit and turn to God. Jesus fought evil with prayer and scripture.

That's why renewing of our minds daily will help us when evil shoots his arrows. The armor of God protects us, but we must be wise enough to put the armor on daily.

its part of the redemtion process. Jesus took on Humanity to redeem us from what adam did. adams fall came because He failed to resist temptation, Jesus came into humanity already corrupted, carried the human nature, and yet when the spirit led him into the desert to be tempted he responds to every temptation with Gods Word. exactly what adam did not do.

God doesnt do things randomly, His word has to be fulfilled. when He told adam you will surely die if you do this, adam did it anyways so in effect He chose death for man. He " sold us into slavery to sin and death" Jesus had to be tempted in order to overcome it for mankind, just as adams transgression was passed to His children, Jesus overcoming temptation is imparted to Gods Children.

Recieving the holy spirit doesnt mean we wont be tempted, it is the power to overcome it by Gods word. again exactly what adam didnt do, and exactly what Christ did. james says this regarding temptations we face

james 1:2-5" My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed."

Like Jesus, we now do not have to yeild to temotation if we have the holy spirit, it doesnt control us against our will, He is there to help us in our trials when we look to God and hold to His word. overcoming temptation is the goal and the way to acchieve it is

james 4:7-10 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, yedouble minded. 9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up."

Our part is to first submit to God, and then resist the devil and the promise is that He will flee from you. satan isnt the hardest worker. when we open our eyes and start fighting Him on every point of Life, hell move on for awhile, he will return but then were stronger knowing how we overcame the last time and so on. eventually when he isnt succesfully destroying our lives .....He loses heart at what His goal is.

there are so many doctrines that teach " effortless" " nothing for us to actually do" salvation, only thats not what Gods word teaches, Gods word is the weapon in our war. its what adam didnt get, and what Jesus knew perfectly well. and also hat He taught us.

epohesians 6:10-17 "
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God"

we have an enemy that is at war with us, and we also have been equipped with battle gear that He cannot overcome, if only christians remembered the old time song " Onward christians soldiers, marching as to war" if only they noticed the references to the ongoing battle, if only they clung tightly to the sword of the spirit, if the resistance would arise the devile would shake in His boots and run for the hills......but, the fad is " conditionless salvation" to do what the word says is self righteousness or works for salvation" so.....we make His effort easy to keep us in chans

I can believe that because Mark was so young. Maybe 12 when Jesus was crucified? Mark was only on the fringes of being a diciple but his mother Mary followed Jesus and I believe it may have been her house that the last supper was in. I'd heard that Mark traveled with Peter but later learned much more from Barnabas, his Uncle, who he ended up traveling with because Peter said he didn't want Mark to travel with him any longer. (Something about Mark taking off once in their travels and he didn't trust him to be reliable.) But Mark flourished under his Uncle and learned well in their travels and after some time Peter respected him again and even recommended him from letters he wrote from prison. Peter must have helped him interpret because Mark is a Jew writing his gospel to the Gentiles. Short, but facinating, written with a sense of urgency.

Im glad you found the help you needed. Always keep your mind tuned to the frequency of the Spirit. Your eyes set on the heavens instead of the world.

We can easily get into the habit of grieving and ignoring the Spirit, allowing evil to catch us off balance. Roman soldiers had nails hammered through the soles of their sandals. Kind of like ancient cleats. Romans was equipped with sword and shield. Thier sandals would help them from losing balance and remain well grounded. Especially with the use of the shield and an enemy pushing into that shield.

Every soldier knew that losing that balance was a matter or life and death when your enemy was as close as a sword distance or arrow distance.

Evil attacks us the same way. Evil will try to attack when we lose our balance.

haha yeah its all good bro. i appreciate conversing with people that grasp that point as you do. you know , all that said we always have the cross with us, we always have the precious and powerful to cleans blood of Christ with us so when we fail in a temptation, all we have to do is call out " Lord help" like peter did when He was sinking on the water. the thing is though theres a fine line in fighting our battles in the Lord, and living as we please and saying "Grace grace, its all Grace"

Jesus death is for when we fail in our efforts, so many teach that were supposed to never make effort or else weve " fallen from Grace" or were " trying to save ourselves" He is there with our forgiveness and He will always reach down and safely plkace us back in the boat, But ithink some people sell a message that sounds like we just flop on the ground and make Jesus do all the work or something. when we sin theres forgiveness through confession and repentance ( 1 john 2)

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked."

so at the same time we are walking in His commandments, yet when we stumble there He is still. its when we dont try, when we dont resist the enemy when we follow our sin that we are actually walking away from Jesus freely. the further we get away, the harder repentance becomes. at the same time were saved By Grace, wee saved By Grace for the purpose of being redeemed from sin and death and to do the good works prepared for us, and those " works" are found in the things the Lord teaches us to do. sorry man im a rambler.....

Buit i appreciate the convo, and your comment.

yep and Marks gospel was written about 70 ad. probably placing Him at the age of around 40 ish when it was written. I have always assumed ( just my own thought) that the gospels were a collection of writings, the apostles adding thier views and the things that really stuck in thier hearts when the Lord was teacing them. i like when paul is in prison and in His epistle he writes " i need my parchments and scrolls " lol i love that He was so full of Knowledge and still was desperate to have the scriptures to search and consider that to me for some weird reason is one of the main reasons i love pauls epistles so much. along with some of the boasting of himself He does and then says " but you drove me to it haha"

I hope one day to sit somewhere with paul and just really dig into some of the things He didnt write in the epistles. and also the fact that He says things like " im not perfect, nor do i claim to be" and when it comes to judgement hes like " hey i dont even judge myself yo Christ is Judge and he will judge me" after Jesus pauls my hero, and i find some of his writing comical considering all he was going through. my favorite about paul tho is when Hes preaching, and the men come and beat Him and think theyve killed Him and drag Him outside the city...and he gets up and goes back to preaching haha hes the man fa sho

I know what you mean sometimes people try and take the relationship part out of the Bible which scares me. I guess some believe the Armor of God will put itself on lol.

Also not realizing in order for the Armor to be effective we must put on ALL of the armor. Knowing without one piece is also a matter of life and death.

exact a mundo. it truly is so destructive when it comes to false doctrine to me its simply the pattern of the serpent in eden, which i consider the very first false doctrine and the pattern for all that follows. the basics of taking Gods word, omitting the important parts, and offering distortion.

Yes agreed because we all know what the first lie was in Genesis 3

3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

hahaha thats great lol.

i remeber reading when John and umm i think peter were flogged in acts and they went away rejoicing for being considered worthy to suffer for the way i was young so i was like..."wait...what?! that doesnt sound too good of a reward for preaching the gospel" of course now days i get it. Theyu Had walked with Jesus, there was nooooo getting them down they saw His miracles, they saw Him transfigured, saw Him suffer shame, beatings, floggings, insults, mocking, they saw Him be spit on, they saw Him nailed to the cross........and yep they sat and ate with Him AFTER HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD!! a little flogging or beating almost to death wasnt gonna get to em....

i think back ten years comparing that to me screaming at the other drivers and letting a grumpy boss or something ruin my joy....... essh!

in all seriousness though to recognize the absolute awe they had for Jesus, to see thier commitment to Him only furthers How true what they saw really was and how convinced they were of Jesus, Son of God and Savior of mankind. that bible is goooooooood medicine !

amen to that i find that in the beginning, we find understanding for the end if that makes sense. in thae garden things were simplistic God said it and it was until that first qurstioning whether God really said that, and then i find it interesting also that this part of the deception turned mans mind against God making Him appear as if he was keeping something good from Her.

" for God knows that when you eat of it, you will be like Him knowing good and evil"

the implication there is that God had lied to adam to keep them from becoming like Him, yet He was made in Gods image as was eve. that implanted the rebellion in us through the mind and then to understand that Jesus came with the truth to change our minds back to " God is for us not against us" idk i guess what i mean is to understand what the serpent did to man, helps immensly to understand what Jesus did for us.

Who is John Mark?

Wouldn't his name have been John Zebedee the son of Mary. So that would debunk the story that Salome was the wife of Zebedee the father of James and John.

And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. Acts 12:12

Yet that there are only two people who could have testified falsely that Jesus ever make a statement regarding the destruction of the temple building.. That would have been John, James who were with also with Peter when Jesus was arrested.

So you like random facts?

Two studies found Here and Here will answer these questions...
