I saw Seoul's longing for another money saving thread.. LOL

1.) When grocery shopping, if possible, go to the dollar store. The Dollar Tree is right next to Price Chopper here in my area, and everything is only $1. :) The store here has a good sized frozen section, so I get about... maybe 98% of my groceries and household products there. At Price Chopper, I get my iced coffee, chocolate milk, paper towels, toilet paper, and deli items, but for everything else, I go to The Dollar Tree. :) When I've got everything I need, I've spent only $50 or $60, compared to $200 or more if I shopped ONLY at Price Chopper.

I also find that the frozen section at DT has alot of good quality and quantity items, with brand names such as Banquet, Minute Maid, Cinnabon, and Marie Callendar's to name a few. So why spend 5 times as much at the grocery store, when you can get nearly everything you need at the dollar store?

2.) Use coupons. Go to online websites and print out coupons for what you need. Many stores double and triple coupons, and they even take competitor coupons. Which means if you have a coupon to Shaws, for example, then Price Chopper will take that coupon. :) Many stores have machines in the aisles where you can grab coupons, and even take them right off certain products.

3.) Use your store loyalty card. Whether it's to Costco, Price Chopper, Staples, etc. USE IT. It will save you money..

4.) Deals at the grocery store, such as 10 for $10, DOES NOT mean you have to buy 10. Even if you only buy 3 or 4, you still get them for $1 each.. :)

5.) When cleaning your house, use natural cleansers. Cider vinegar is awesome for wiping dirty windows, and killing mold and mildew. When killing mold and mildew, though, use straight vinegar, don't dilute it. Toothpaste and baking soda are excellent for cleaning dried-on gunk from ovens and/or microwaves.. If you have a Swiffer mop, buy re-usable pads for it, instead of constantly using the Swiffer brand. Re-usable mop pads will last a VERY long time AND save you a ton of $$$.

I have a question....Do you think it is sometimes more cost effective to use a better quality item, for the sake of longevity versus a lesser price? Therefore over time you actually save more money or close to the same, while being able to use a better item over that stretch of time? One would almost have to chart that to determine the difference huh? But I think theres a point in there somewhere. What do you think?

If you need flea or tick stuff to kill them on your pet, give your pet a bath with dish soap. The soap destroys the exoskeletons of the fleas and ticks. AND your pet will have clean, shiny, good-smelling fur. :) Do the same for putting flea traps around your house. Put down a bowl of soapy water. The fleas will jump in them and drown. But make sure you use soap, because fleas CAN escape from just plain water.

I remember hearing about a worker who had used the same brush for over 20 years. He had replaced 17 handles and 28 brush heads.

If you find money on the ground, pick it up. Even pennies add up after awhile. :) If you're into collecting recycleable cans and bottles, wait until the night before recycling day comes, and go around town and raid other people's recycle bins. I have done this before and I find that people really don't care if their trash becomes your treasure.

Well, many people may not know this, but many brand name items are sold and packaged under the store brand. For example, here in VT, our Cabot cheese is packaged and sold at all grocery stores as their store brand. So when you buy store brand, you're actually buying a favorite brand name. :)

Like I mentioned in another post about using re-usable mop pads, if you have something like that, you'll definitely save money. :)

When doing laundry, use 1/2 a clothes softener sheet. They also are handy for using on furniture, when you are dusting.. :)

If you are doing dishes and have a dish with baked on stuff fill with hot water, add some dish detergent and 1 clothes softener sheet. Wait 15 minutes. The baked on stuff will come off very easily and quickly.

When I worked for a School District here I would just collect pencils off the floor as a means of getting them away from Kids tripping, but after a 32 year career it was a massive box of pencils and pens most of which were almost brand new, (even when I had made them available to use at any time the box just kept growing). As I left the place, I gave the box back to them so they could continue their usefulness. They should have pencils for another 32 years. Smile....

I have a friend who has a large family, and now that I have a reduced size family as my 3 boys have moved out and I am alone, I bulk buy at Costcos with my friend and I only prorate a small percentage of product which lowers both of our bills. I simply pay them my share. They get what is usable in a reasonable time, and I get the same for my needs. It's a Win..Win. Plus, It gives us reason to maintain a good fellowship rapport.

I'm thinking Big Mac, large fries and Strawberry shake.
Dont they do free refills? I hear they did in the UK. So if I eat the filling and burgers in my bigmac, I get a free refill?

Actually, in most McDonald's you can help yourself at the fountain to all the refills that you want.
