To what degree are our churches obedient to the will of the Lord, and to what degree are our churches providing the Lord nothing more than lip service?

I have this sense that church is just there to get people in the door and dropping money into the offering plate.

Sadly, I think that is accurate of some churches. I also think some churches just want to get people in the pews, and don't really care about feeding the flock. As a member of a church which has only 12 members and under 30 regular attendees, I know I have felt that push.

I don't think that's the real purpose of a church. I don't like all that I see in my church, by a long shot, but then there is the fellowship. When I've lost people who were dear to me, where would I have been without the Lord and the church? And the church gives us opportunities to make ourselves useful, if people are into that.

My feeling is that a church that sets an example of moral integrity for its members is a church the Lord will bless.

See: The Seven Chuches of Asia.
The same seven churches still exist.
Obviously the one at Philadelphia is where you want to be.

Is Philadelphia where Depleted lives? We might have to get her permission.

Where did we get the idea that our thoughts and actions come from churches? Those are just building where groups of people congregate.

Churches are the people, not the building(s).

Yeah, right. The standard answer that we somehow never seem to actualize in our lives.
The biblical answer, based on the biblical definition.

However, I now see that you are trying to make a point in everyday normal 'Willie' fashion. And, your point is well made.

People need to think and act according to the biblical definition and not the worldly one...

I agree.

That was the main attraction of "The Vineyard" for me......... Relevancy.

Church means a congregation or an assembly of people called out of the world for a purpose. It's not a building, but the church can meet in a building. :)

In Corinthians Paul spelled out what coming together of the church would look like. I would love to be a part of a fellowship that actually does it God's way.

What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation.

Let all things be done for edification. If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

How I yearn for us to come together His way. Instead we have everything so controlled, we even control the Holy Spirit and put Him in His place.
