On the news tonight....I seen that the California chapter of the NAACP is saying the NATIONAL ANTHEM is RACIST and wants it gone.....is there any end of this madness.....YES....the demise and destruction of the entire nation......

I am so sick of this idiocy.......propagated, embraced and pushed by those who in message and deed are the true racists......!!!!!!!!

EVERYBODY in this country has the SAME opportunity to carve out a life that exceeds the majority of the world in riches, food, property, freedom, choice, and rights.......the above attitude makes me sick and makes me smoking hot and peeved to the max.....

After investigating their claims it does seem that the 3rd verse (which no one ever sings or even knows about) refers to the deaths of slaves who fought along british troops against the colonists, and the author Francis Scott Key was known to have the opinion that slaves were inferior.

The thing is though that Key also mentions "hirelings" in the same sentence. I believe hirelings were colonists that the british recruited for their side.... So it probably was just a jab at those who took sides with the british instead of fighting along with their neighbors..

So now I am back to my original opinion.... that the left are twisting the meaning of that verse. And that is where I am staying! :)

Here is the verse in question:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I've read the third verse and I can't make any sense out of it. It seems like word salad

I read where the racial slur on the door of a black cadet at the Air Force Academy was done be the student himself.
Where is the liberal outcry?

I'm no expert on Francis Scott Key, or how he felt about everything in life.
I'm not going to pretend to know everything here, or be an expert.
I'm just going to think out loud for a second.

Maybe we should consider, just consider, that this was "war time", and the black troops "apparently" referred to in the utterly confusing 3rd verse would have been GUYS ON THE OTHER OF THE WAR, WHO WERE KILLING OUR TROOPS.

Usually, when someone is on the other side, trying to kill your people, you don't give a lot of thought to how they might be "feeling", or if your words might offend them. You just really need them to be dead. That's ugly, but war is an ugly business. Black, white, or green... and whether Key was a racist or not... you would expect some animosity, and a pretty strong lack of appreciation, for guys on the other side TRYING TO KILL YOU.

I'm not trying to defend any racism.

But we've just seen a lot of small things blown up into big things the last few years.

And if they DO get the national anthem banned...
well, I seldom go to football games anyway.

the 3rd stanza is not about slavery in the US as it became a nation

the rumor mill always has grist for it's turning

when you go looking for something to be upset about, you sure as anything will find it

Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Meaning of Star Spangled Banner Lyrics Verse 3
Francis Scott Key describes the British as arrogant and boastful in the lyrics 'that band who so vauntingly swore'
He is venting his anger at the British with the "foul footsteps' pollution" lyrics inferring that the British poisoned the ground on which they walked
But the poison and corruption had been washed away by the blood of the British
The Star Spangled Banner lyrics "the hireling " refers to the British use of Mercenaries (German Hessians) in the American War of Independence
The Star Spangled Banner lyrics "...and slave" is a direct reference to the British practice of Impressment (kidnapping American seamen and forcing them into service on British man-of war ships). This was a Important cause of the War of 1812
Francis Scott Key then describes the Star Spangled Banner as a symbol of triumph over all adversity
Meaning of Star Spangled Banner Lyrics Verse 3

Well, we at least know that impressment was a real historical fact, and a serious issue.

Perhaps the best thing to do here on CC is to look up some serious historians, and see what they have to say about the 3rd verse. We might find the majority of qualified historians are in agreement.

We don't ever want to lessen, or devalue, any genuine issues of slavery or racism.
We should take those issues seriously.
But we also don't want to be swept away with rumors and emotions.

Right now, in U.S. politics, fanning the flames of racism would be a good way to break off many of the Trump supporters who were angry democrats or independents. This would be a great political strategy for shutting down his administration, and beating him in the next election. So whether we like the president or hate him, we might consider that a great many things are just part of a political agenda.

When I suggest the Dems may be stirring up all kinds of nonsense as part of a political agenda, that is NOT to say the Republicans are above doing the same things. I think we need to weigh and measure everything we hear. The Bible doesn't say Democrats are sinners, or Republicans are sinners... it says ALL are sinners. I distrust all politicians equally, lol.

So, lets look for some historians talking about this verse, and see what the experts have to say.
And let's be vigilant about everything we see in the news... from either side of the aisle.

I'm all about the truth and it's not always pretty

I heard about this on tv last night, and went looking...found the docu I sourced but it seems this is the real deal

people should absolutely look into it and not emotionally get in a huff on either side

btw, I have less and less respect for the Republicans ... RHINOS...

starting to think if they did ever actually drain the swamp, there would be no life left

maybe a few odd birds pecking about....

Next, the sensitive liberal crybabies will locate a word somewhere in the Bible that they will claim is racist. It is doubtful there is a true man among them.

You guys do realize, don't you, that in a few years when the liberals legalize child sexual exploitation, that any of you who has ever said a word against it will be vilified and persecuted.

This is why your picture always shows up next to the thread called "End of the World".

But seriously, although the average liberal would be appalled at this,
there are a LOT of people out there in favor of just about anything that's awful.

Any rational person would expect that "the average liberal would be appalled" at legalized Baby Murder.... but they aren't.

Probably because I am interested in serious matters, not just figuring out if I can guess how days become years... then vice-versa... then turning that into "weeks."

Well here is my take on the Liberal Idiocracy, when they get what they want, they still find something to complain about, and if they don't get what they want, they want to bring the drama into everyone's, and I mean EVERYONES households, blacks, Hispanics, whites, you name it, they push their agendas on everyone. And they have this so called, We accept the ideas and thoughts of other parties and cultures, yet when it doesn't line up with theirs, they rain hellfire and brimstone down on those who oppose them. That kind of lunacy is a disease, a serious mental disease, and it's worse now than it ever has been, and no, it is not because of Trump, he had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. He is stepping up for all the hard working, Christian and patriotic Americans in this country who are tired of laying down and taking it. It really appears that everything the Liberals support and embody goes completely against the word of God, and I'm not saying everything that the Conservatives believe in lines up with God's word, but at lease there is reverence to God and His word. We just have to stand strong against these idiots and give them over to God, and let Him deal with them.

Trump is not an idealist, he is a populaist and as such will do whatever is popular, including blinding many conservatives that he shares their common values.

He was only courted by evangelicals to keep the 501 3C intact, which is so unbiblical it is not even funny. The evangelicals will get hurt here, because they want to endorse Presidential candidates, in order to do that, they must give up the 501 3c tax exemption. Trump is not the conservatives friend I assure you of that. It is yet to be seen if he is the churches true friend, but I doubt it.

The best thing he is doing and doing right is exposing the hypocrisy of both parties. I like that about him.

I find it interesting that when Trump was telling the evangelicals Ted Cruz was not their fiend and lying nobody liked him. Once Ted imploded due to self inflicted gun shot wounds, the evangelicals jumped on Trump and there were far better 3rd party candidates that are true brothers in Christ, Like Darrell Castle.

A few things never change, King Jesus is still on the throne and fellow US Christians still think guns, Christian Candidates and restoring the country to the "way it used to be " are the keys to spiritual revival.

When the USA falls do not be surprised. We have to, so Israel can defend herself w/o a military partner.
