Hebrews 10:26-31 ESV

For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 [FONT=&quot][/FONT][FONT=&quot]It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.[/FONT]
Here is says one must repent! To enter the kingdom.

Well, Jesus was referring to the church in Laodicea, wasn't He. I've read that many of the members of that church were wealthy, had grown complacent and self-satisfied, and neither felt the need for God nor served Him. Assuming these attributes to be true, one can readily understand Christ's displeasure with the church.

I had planned to take my post's message in a different direction, but I happened to scroll up and see "Pottersclay's" post. Geesh, man. I guess there are about four people going to heaven according to you, huh? Everyone else has blasphemed the Holy Spirit. If sinning after one has been saved means blaspheming the Holy Spirit, then I'm guilty over and over again, and so are most Christians, I well imagine.

You can supply Bible verses until your hand cramps; it certainly doesn't mean you have cornered the market on interpreting them. God made mankind as thinking, feeling creatures--not perfect, but prone to weakness, to give in to temptation at times, to be prone to addiction. God also made man able with His divine help to repent and walk once more in the light. I serve a loving God, a forgiving God--not a God waiting to jump on His children when they've gone astray--but a God that is unwilling to lose even one of us without a fight because He genuinely and unconditionally loves us.

Yes, there is an unpardonable sin, but a true Christian is not going to commit it. Yes, a Christian may give in to temptation, but he/she can be forgiven. And a Christian may become caught up in worldly pleasures; again, the Christian can repent. Good grief, man. Why do you think Jesus allowed Himself to be crucified?

You come off as being very dogmatic. Try to understand that your view is not the only one on here--and certainly not the only one among other Christians in the world. Some Christians believe that those who are saved are sealed for all eternity; others do not. Some believe that hell is a place of eternal torment for those who are not saved; others believe that the fires of hell completely obliterate the unsaved. It's all about how one interprets God's word, with a little bit of common sense thrown in.

Lastly, I think that your unswerving and rather harsh, "definitive" list of blasphemies against the Holy Spirit is not only wrong but can be harmful to new Christians who are trying to figure everything out. They don't need to be scared out of their wits simply because they are human and may have committed a sin.

I saw this identical statement posted several times here:

Sometimes a statement must be clarified in order to be of value (especially when you have a broad audience like we do here).

For example: I looked on Wikepedia and they say that 31.2% of the world's population is "Christian".
Based on this definition do you stick by your statement that "Christians do not go to hell"?

For example: The KJV often calls the "grave" hell - So is it true then that Christians do not go to "hell"?

The idea that Christian’s go to hell implies to some very contradicting Bible TRUTH.

1 The Sower in Matt. 13:18-23 show’s us they never came to salvation :
Verse 19 “then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart
“Catchth” it is not allowed to take hold = unsaved
Verse 21 “Yet hath he not root in himself,” therefore they did not receive the Word in their heart. They fall away = not saved
Verse 22 “he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word,” they did not believe you cannot remove the Word of God it will accomplish to the perfect to which HE sent it . This has to

Is 55:11 “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”.

the idea that a Christian goes to hell I think speaks to the ability of God to compltely save. God knows the heart which none of us can know. This is the Primary Point. HE judges the heart . each of us know if we are in the faith. we are told to examine ourselves. judge ourselves , . God knows and so do wee if we are honest.

Ok brother. If this is the case, then I am blind and I need your help to show me the truth. Will you serve me in love? will you speak the truth to me in love? Does your heart burn to do this for everyone? Isnt this our commission? I need help understanding these verses. In fact, Lets just start with one passage please? I am willing to be wrong. God knows I am wrong continually as he is the one who is always correcting me. This passage is from Hebrews 6. Please review the chapter for context before you reply. I obviously do not understand. I want to. I long to. I love God. I love his word.

[SUP]4 [/SUP]It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, [SUP]5 [/SUP]who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age [SUP]6 [/SUP]and who have fallen[SUP][c][/SUP] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. [SUP]7 [/SUP]Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. [SUP]8 [/SUP]But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

Who is the author writing about? Is he writing about a non believer? I think this passage is about me. I think it is written about a mature enlightened Christian who has spent time with the Holy spirit flowing through them. I testify about God that, HE has enlightened me, AND, put the heavenly gift in my mouth, and poured his spirit out on me. I have tasted the goodness of the word and the powers of the coming age. Not only this but, I have, I am, and God continues. I have been experiencing all of these things for fifteen years when i was first enlightened. I am still experiencing them now. I have no doubt, God will continue to give me all of this and more. The more I try to give away all the riches He has abounded upon me, the more he gives to me. The only part of that verse that doesnt fit me is, "and has fallen away." You see my words here prove, I have not fallen away. Praise God. A person who has fallen away is not working hard to serve others in love. HELP ME BROTHER. OBVIOUSLY I HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING. It is so simple. I am wrong or you are wrong. I am willing to be wrong just please show me how this verse is not about a saved believer actually a mature saved believer like myself.

Your servant in Christ
JOEY
Context bro.....Hebrew Christians wanting to go back under an inferior way and forsake the assembling together in the name of Christ...there is no more sacrifice for sins as (under thr law)..Jesus fulfilled that requirement and has paid the price for sin forever!

Let me ask you a question....

He is the beginner and finisher of our faith, he will complete that good work of faith he began in us.

Based upon the above verse..If he began a work of faith in you and you fall away or lose it then what has he failed to do which makes him a liar?

a. Finish it
b. Complete it

Another ?

I will NEVER LEAVE THEE NOR FORSAKE THEE

If you can lose it then he will leave thee and forsake thee which makes him a what? liar

Another ?

Nothing can seperate you from the love of GOD.

If something you do can seperate you from the love of God then the word NOTHING IS WHAT? false

There are way too many contradictions to a losable salvation and we have not even touched Greek verb tense

But that is a reference to Sheol/Hades, not the actual grave. And no genuine Christian goes to Hades either. Every believer goes directly to Christ in Heaven.

Had the word Christian in the title been put in quotes, that would have indicated something different. But the poster simply put Christian there because he believes that genuine Christians also go to Hell. Which is absolute rubbish.
Does the poster believe that genuine Christians believing in Christ go to hell? Are you sure that he does?

Is that any more looney than teaching that a Christian can change his mind and not want to be saved?

Gods hatred of sin is not momentary but never abates. Gods love for us is not momentary but continues into eternity.

Yes, and repent means to change our minds. We must stop thinking that we somehow influence what God has done for us and instead have faith that it is God who saves us and keeps us saved.

Those who truly live the Christian life as Jesus taught us will not go to Hell. But those who call themselves Christians, yet live sinful lives, or are just lukewarm about following Jesus Christ, may very well forfeit salvation.

After reading this message you will know the answer to this question: “Will Some Christians Go To Hell?”

Some Christians after accepting JESUS CHRIST as their LORD and SAVIOR, they do nothing with the Word of GOD. They are laid-back Spiritually; they’re Lukewarm, neither hot nor cold.
Such Christians are called “Lukewarm Christians.” They think of themselves as “normal” Christians. They jeer at some others as “too Spiritual” or fanatical, but they themselves are Spiritually inactive, lethargic and complacent about the things of the Spirit.

Now let us look at what the LORD JESUS said about such people.
The LORD’S disposition towards such Spiritual Lassitude and Ineffectiveness is revealed in Matthew 25:14- 30, John 15:1-3, Revelation 3:15-16 and in many other scriptures.
HE said, “I am the True Vine, and my Father is the Vinedresser. Every branch of Mine that bears no fruit, He takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit (John 15:1-3). I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If a man does not abide in Me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into fire and burned (John 15:5-6).”
And again JESUS said, “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my Mouth (Revelation 3:15-16).”
This is serious, coming from the Lips of the MASTER (JESUS CHRIST).

A Christian who remains lukewarm would end up going to hell if he/she does not repent.
If you’ve been a Lukewarm Christian, the LORD says, “Be zealous therefore, and repent.” To be zealous means to be afire. It means to let your Spiritual fire burn with unquenchable intensity. The LORD JESUS says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven (Matthew 5:16).”

Every one of us must take a stand for the GOSPEL and be effective in our Christian walk. Be on fire for the LORD.
Let the things of the Spirit excite you. Get into the flow of the Spirit. Be known as a burning and a shining light. Be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

Thank You HOLY FATHER for Thy WORD today in JESUS’ NAME.
Thank You LORD JESUS, those whom you love, you reprove and chasten.
JESUS IS LORD.

You misinterpret the Scriptures to suit your doctrine, verse 6 is speaking of those that do not abide in Christ not those that do. "If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned."

Christians abide in Christ, unbelievers do not. You have made God a God of your own understanding which is not the God of the Bible. Those who the Father has had mercy on He raised them us with Christ, He made them alive and sees them seated in heavenly places, but you are saying that this is not true that the Father raises up and makes alive His people but does not have the poser to see tham in heavenly places. You rae saying He might see them in heavenly places maybe.

You are making a big mistake in your reading of the Bible, you read it through your doctrinal ideas, instead of read out of the Bible what it means by not reading into it your doctrine. It is not your fault the Church you go to teaches you the Bible that way so you follow their lead.

The Bible needs to be taught verse by verse and draw out of the words what they mean. Here is something to thing about and you can ask your pastor this as well. If the Father place one sin on Jesus to be judged of a person that is going to hell, is He a just God?

People l;ove to believe that someone can lose their salvation becaue as long as they are saved they are doing good. The thing people that believe that one can lose their salvation have a low view of sin, because the fact is we all sin every monet we are alive, we sin in our mind and we will never be perfect which is the standard Matthew 5:48
“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” No one can be pefect like the Father so we are all domed to hell, but God and Him be rich in mercy, if the Father does not have mercy on us we are gooing to hell no questions asked and the Father is totally just in sending us there.

There's no such thing as "forfeiting" salvation.

Evidently you need to properly understand the finished work of Christ, the grace of God, and the totality of salvation.

All these erroneous ideas float around because people are not really studying and BELIEVING the Word of God. Which means believing God, not one's own imagination. Also salvation is not a set of keys which can be lost and dumped in the LOST AND FOUND DEPARTMENT.

I was wondering. How much of the Christian life must one truly live to be assured they won't go to hell?
BTW, welcome to ChristianChat :)

I thought these verses are talking about people of the world hearing the gospel then rejecting it.
Heb 10- 26
For if we go on willfully and deliberately sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice [to atone] for our sins [that is, no further offering to anticipate],
27 but a kind of awful and terrifying expectation of [divine] judgment and the fury of a fire and burning wrath which will consume the adversaries [those who put themselves in opposition to God].

This verse is not talking about Christians, its talking about people who hear the Gospel (Knowledge of the truth) but don't become a Christian. As they then fear divine Judgment. John 5-24
“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, the person who hears My word [the one who heeds My message], and believes and trusts in Him who sent Me, has (possesses now) eternal life [that is, eternal life actually begins—the believer is transformed], and does not come into judgment and condemnation, but has passed [over] from death into life.

Jn 3-18 Whoever believes and has decided to trust in Him [as personal Savior and Lord] is not judged [for this one, there is no judgment, no rejection, no condemnation]; but the one who does not believe [and has decided to reject Him as personal Savior and Lord] is judged already [that one has been convicted and sentenced], because [b]he has not believedand trusted in the name of the [One and] only begotten Son of God [the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, the One who alone can save him].

The lake of fire is for everyone not written in the Lambs book of life.

Jesus said this,
Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Matt 7:21

So many will believe Jesus is their Lord but be mistaken.
They will call themselves by many names and still fail.

John the Baptist preached,
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea
and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
Matt 3:1-2

If one does not repent, there is no hope of entering the kingdom of heaven.

I guess I will never understand why many Christians adopt the liberal talking points of “Liberal Theology “. This is synonymous with the thinking of “ Is there a God”. The word Of God is clear >

Jude 1:24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time[SUP]h[/SUP] and now and forever. Amen.

Hebrew 12 :2
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Christians do not go to Hell. If they are a “Christian" then they have placed their faith and Trust in the word of God to keep them from falling. If a Christian has sinned, they have an advocate with the Father who is faithful to forgive and cleanse from all un-righteousness. WE are to keep our eyes and heart fixed on Jesus and trust HE will not let us go.

I am in awe when I see this question rationalized or even entertained. The Word of God is very clear that those who come to HIM must have faith and Believe!

NASB Hebrew 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

What is the reward? Those who come to HIM, HE will not turn away. If you have issue of the flesh and are seeking God for the victory, YOU WILL HAVE IT IN the Name of the Lord. Do not give up; do not entertain foolish thoughts that speak against the Salvation of the Lord. These doctrines of Devils. Keep fighting the good fight and trust in the Lord. The battle of the mind is won by renewing it, with the Word of God. Not theories, schemes, and hypotheticals.

Hold frim to your faith in Christ HE never fails .
