No, it is not a sin, unwise perhaps but no sin is involved in doing so. What's your take on this? In your own words please and not just a bunch of cut-n-paste bible verses.

I would say no . Still one should know what they are getting in to . If the unbeliever is a militant atheist this will cause grief .
If the unbeliever is somewhat open minded there is hope . I do know of one lady that married a atheist that did come to Christ.

when un-saved, we are at the will of the 'deceiver', and thus we serve him...

"If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?" (1 Corinthians 7:12-16)

I think it is a sin (a small one). See 1 COR 7:39

[h=1]39 A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.[/h]

I will love to say this first. It is not advisable to get married to an unbeliever because he/she may make you renounce your believed in CHRIST JESUS. He/she may also keep you away from the LORD especially if you are still a baby Christian and you are not strong in the LORD. And he/she may make you to live in sin.

To me, it is not a sin because marriage is an institution created by GOD from the beginning. And this institution itself called marriage is good because GOD instituted or created it. So whosoever get into this institution (marriage) whether a Christian or an unbeliever doesn't change the institution, it remains good. The people involved in the institution may be unholy but this doesn't change the truth that marriage itself is good. The HOLY SPIRIT says, "Everything created by GOD is good." So marriage itself is good even though unbelievers get involved in it. So since the institution called marriage itself is good then it means that if a Christian and an unbeliever decided to get married, the institution (marriage) still remains good.
so to me, it is not a sin.

For it is written, "If any one thinks that he is not behaving proper toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry-it is not a sin (1 Corinthians 7:36)." And here the betrothed may be a believer or an unbeliever.

If we doubt anything, we should always ask the HOLY SPIRIT and HE will answer us. For the LORD loves us so much.

Another reason for not marrying an unbeliever:

[h=1]2 Corinthians 6:14 New International Version (NIV)[/h][h=3]14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?[/h]
I still think that marrying an unbeliever is a sin (a small one).

Of course not. read 1 Corinthians 7:12-13.

The explanation is also in verses 14-15.

besides Christians have brethren too outside the Church as mentioned in 1 Peter 5:9 so they can marry those brethren outside the Church too.

I don't think so. But it's wiser to marry somebody who believes for more than one reason.

Apply judicious CBA.

I think Paul is referring to couples where one partner got converted after marrying.

There is no difference actually.

If you prefer to live with a non believer after marriage or you wish to marry and live with a non believer.

as long as that non believer never resisted the Christian doctrines.

Remember what Jesus said here:

Luke 9:50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

Christians have also brethren outside the Christian Church (1 Peter 5:9) So it is not bad to marry these so called brethren from outside.
If Christians can make friends to other non Christian people such as Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs etc. as long as he never resisted your faith then what's wrong with marrying some of them?

Love comes from friendship first.

Why marry a militant atheist? it is clear in the Bible that atheists do abominable things according to Book of Psalms.

You can marry a non Christian as long as it never resisted your Christian faith.

Like I said, if a Christian can befriend any non Christian as long as it is tolerant to your faith, then why not marry him or her?

Love comes from friendship first.

Anything that goes against the will of God is sin and if God says not to get yoked with an unbeliever then it is sin to marry an unbeliever..

Sin? No; just foolish.

I think anytime we walk in the flesh and in our own understanding, forfeiting the wisdom of God, it's sin.

Is it a sin to marry an unbeliever? Personally, I think it's very unwise. But each one of us answers to God, not man.

Btw, isn't it remarkable how many different understandings are being posted here regarding marriage and being equally yoked? :p

Not all unbelievers are non Christians.

In fact there is someone inside the Christian Church who can be considered as unbeliever.

Matthew Chapter 18

[SUP]15 [/SUP]“If your brother or sister[SUP][b][/SUP] sins,[SUP][c][/SUP] go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. [SUP]

16 [/SUP]But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’[SUP][d][/SUP]

[SUP]17 [/SUP]If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

If marrying a non Christian is wrong then never befriend any non Christian too.

Remember Love comes from friendship first.

You can marry a non Christian as long as that man does not resist your Christian faith or compel you to do bad things.

BTW some non Christians are in fact brethren of the Christians outside the Church if you'll read 1 Peter 5:9.

I don't think it is not wrong to marry these people.

It could be unwise if that unbeliever will pressure you to do bad things such as vices, crimes and abandoning God and Christian faith; Include those who resist the Christian teachings and yet you decided to marry him.

but remember some non Christian are in fact Christians' brethren outside the Church as mentioned in 1 Peter 5:9.

I don't think it is not wrong to marry these kind of people.

If a Christian can befriend tolerant and prudent non Christian then why not marry some of them?

Love comes from friendship first right?
