No one gets honor but Christ. If not for Christ. mary would be doomed for eternity with the rest of us. No man is to have honor. Nor should any woman. Mary is blessed among all women for what she went through and endured. And what she had the pleasure of doing. But she is not to be honored. Christ is! Honoring anyone is to hold them up. We are not to hold anyone up but Christ.

Mary is a sinner saved by Grace, a future bride of Christ. Just like I am.
Aah, but God honors some of us more than others, and Mary received the ultimate honor.

yeah? Where is this in scripture? David was called a man after Gods own heart. Even with all his sin. Is this not the ultimate honor? Jesus is also called the Son of David. Another ultimate honor. (notice jesus is never called the son of Abraham) Yet we do not hold up david as the father of God. the king of heaven etc etc.

we are not told why God chose Mary. We do know it was not because she deserved it. No one did. It might simply be God knew she is the only one at that time which would do it. all we do know. is she was put through hell by the jews for it, which is why she is so blessed. it does not mean we should hold her up and make her something she is not.

I wouldn't call David's honor the greatest honor. Nor do I think you can really apply honor that God gives to Jesus, as he was God. Mary was chosen to bear the savior of all humanity in her womb; now that is the ultimate honor.

If it wasn't for Adam and Eve, Mary wouldn't have been necesary. Sounds like Mary should atleast give a head nod their direction if we're going to ascribe honor via positions in history.

EDIT:
Although, I guess if Catholicism is going the route it's been going with the evolution issue, then Adam and Eve may not have been real people via the Catholic view, so I see an escape there. :(

But Adam and Eve are also the result of our present condition, so that's not much of an honor. Mary, however, succeded where Eve failed.

BTW, Theistic Evolution, YEC, and OEC are all acceptable views in the Catholic Church as long as everyone who believes in them affirms a couple of beliefs. The belief that Adam and Eve were real people is one of them.

Result of our present condition? So they had Original Sin too?

I like how humans somehow now have the ability to ascribe heavenly honor.

My point was if Adam and Eve had not failed we would still be in paradise. All the evil we see around us is the result of the Fall, which Adam and Eve caused.

You wouldn't want the Mormons prostelytizing the Martians would you! They're the nutty ones!

(side note: it seems mormons and catholics get along better than protestants with either of the two)

What?? Where do you people get this stuff??

Jesus was promised to come from Eve. through her seed. Mary is through her seed. Mary did not succeed at anything. She did what God asked her to do.

Ahh, we agree.. wow! Then again, if this were true. we probably would never have heard of Mary, Abraham, David or any of the other great (sinners) who were used By God in doing the things God needed done, for they would have been normal people. But Adam and eve did fail. So God used many men and women, All sinners in need of a savior. to do Gods will. all who point to Christ (even mary)

well if I believed as you do. I would fight it to. But david. The man who committed adultry. Murder, fornication and all other kinds of sin. was called the friend of God. he was promised that his seed would sit on his throne. He was made king of Gods people. There can be no greator Honor.

What honor did Jesus give mary? When he was asked about his mother. He said whoever comes to him is his mother. Yep this is a great honor. Why was this even said? because Mary did not trust God and feared for her son. Mary a few times showed she did not trust God and understand what her son needed to do.

David on the other hand. Although he sinned greatly. Trusted God in ALL things. this is why he was bestowed the greatest honor of all mankind.

While I don't have a problem with someone offering to baptise a space alien, I am curious as to WHY the Pope has his own personal astronomer ... is he expecting this to happen?

Seems like a large leap, to go from that poor Galileo, to pondering the possibility of baptising ET.

For the longest time the Vatican has had it's own observatory. He is not the popes personal astronomer as such, he is just the man that operates the Vatican observatory.

I was kind of wondering if anyone would get the joke! ;) As it turns out though, it does appear that when the Vatican commissioned the building of the observatory, it was done with scientific curiosity in mind rather than astrology, especially concerning the reformation of the calendar. It's interesting reading, I've just started looking into it now.

Then again, I still would have thrown in the Star Trek joke!

Mary was a sinner, like us. She said so herself.

Luke 1:46-49 - "And Mary said: “ My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation"

Col 1:12-14 - "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins"

Mat 13:55-56 - "Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” - Mary did conceive after the birth of Jesus (contrary to catholic beliefs)

Romans 3:23-24 : "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus"

Luke 8:21 - "But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it"

1 Timothy 2:5 - "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus"
