Are you traditional in your celebration of Thanksgiving or more go with the flow? Do you have any traditions that are unique?

We used to pack up and go to my dad's, a 45 min trip from Riverside to LA county, before he departed in 2007. He was a savant in the kitchen and I made it a point to watch his 'tactics' when cooking. When I was working at a Catholic Seminary for a TV Priest, I brought in a small turkey one holiday for a potluck. The priest was like drooling over the aroma and asked if he could have the drumstick, and of course I said yes. I don't think the cooks there were into garlic and spices.
My 2 Hallmark Thanksgiving movies are 'A Family Thanksgiving' and 'Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade' that still crack me up.

Whatever happens, you know there will be a family dinner. My family is big on family dinners. Holiday, someone has a birthday, any excuse will do.

Mind you, I'm not saying that's a BAD thing... I love 'em!

There is something about food that seems to make family gatherings more enjoyable. Perhaps it's because if people are eating, they aren't talking.
My youngest brother and I used to drink a cup of hot chocolate together every Christmas Eve. One time he arrived at 3 in the morning. He woke me up and we had our hot chocolate together.
We seldom get together at Christmas anymore because of distance but we still separately have our hot chocolate.

Oh we are definitely talking. All through the day, before, during and after the meal, we are always talking.

That's my favorite part. The food is good, but the entertainment is a lot better. I don't talk myself much at family dinners. I just sit back and listen to them rattle.
