Winchester was capital of Wessex in olden days, London became capital of England in 1066 when William the Conqueror chose to be crowned in Westminster abbey ... the Saxon kings were crowned in Winchester cathedral.
Very informative. Pity that I was stuck in the North of England (Manchester-Liverpool) during my visit to the UK in 2019. I love the South of England, and always dreamt of visiting the South West. Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, etc. But my son prefers the North, where he stays with his nederlander vrouw.
