Actually a few months ago the hair topic came up in the Singles forum. Somebody posted pics and I correctly identified hair that had been straightened.

Mind you it's your hair, not mine. You're free to do whatever you want with it. I just think naturally curly or straight looks better than fake curly or straight.
That's very interesting. By and large, most women have curly or wavy hair. It is a dominant trait. I would say the majority of the time you see a black or white woman with straight hair, it is not naturally straight. Most women with straight hair flat iron it every morning.

Why? It burns the hair and makes it look fake. Why bother?

But it's their hair, so oh well.

As the blonde color of my hair would suggest, my hair must be recessive (not to be confused with receding!) Since I always keep it in a braid, it usually ends up having a little wave in it, but if I shower and don't braid it (heaven forbid! If I do that it looks like a lion's mane) it is as straight as you please.

I love genetics, but that's one trait I'd never heard before; learn something new every day! :)

That is a good question. I was watching some video songs of black artists from the seventies a few days ago, and almost without fail they all had Afros, which many people commented on, asking, what happened to this as a hair style? It seems to be long gone :( On the other hand, when I was much younger, my hair was very thick and completely unmanageable-curly, which I did not like... being a thirteen year old, I remember wanting what everybody else had (sleek hair), not realizing that everybody else wanted what I had (crazy curly hair) LOLOLOL

Generally, women with curly or wavy hair want to tame their frizziness and make their hair smooth. Straightening it smooths it and also makes it shiny. Women use heat protection products on their hair before straightening it or using a curling iron. I know what your thoughts about make-up and etc are, that it is fake. But to my way of thinking, it says "I take time and trouble to make myself look the best I can because I am confident and take good care of myself." I kind of wonder if women don't take trouble with their looks if they don't like their looks. Besides, I think of it as enhancing looks. Makeup can only do so much, it can't give a woman a brand new face.

I'm interested in genetics, it was one of the more interesting classes I took in college. You are doubly recessive- a blonde with naturally straight hair. I knew you were a rare flower, anyway. :)

Too much effort.

When I get up in the morning it probably takes me about 15 minutes to get up and out.

its called SSS (S**t, shave and shower)

I haven't got time to put make up on.

D'waaa . I somehow ended up with a great deal of the recessive genes in a family with mostly dominant traits, so since I'm quite different from a lot of the people around me I grew up being interested in genetics. Amazing how creative God is, isn't it??

I was kind of simplifying it, most traits are not controlled by one gene, but bits and pieces on many genes, except sex, of course. It is much more complicated than you learn in middle school or high school. What is really amazing to me is that DNA is made up of only four amino acids in different combinations, yet we have this infinite variety. It really is kind of marvelous. It reminds me of the psalm, where David says "we are fearfully and wonderfully made".
