Years ago I used to carry a gun everywhere. I stopped doing that years ago. After observing some things that have been happening in my city, I'm considering carrying again. I really don't want to, but the thought keeps running through my mind. So what do you guys think, should or shouldnt.?

Why stop at a gun?
Carry an AR15.
That way no one will mess with you. (Except the police)

No, I don't carry a gun. It would result in a huge fine ($10,000+) and some time spent in jail. Also, I don't have a firearms license, so that would just be asking for trouble. I'm not against firearms but I do believe many Americans are too gun-happy.

The name of the Lord of Hosts has all power over firearms.

1 Sam 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47 and that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.”

You will need a conceal carry license if it is offered in your state.
If you don't get that, (if it is offered); you face a felony.
If you live in a state that doesn't offer that, and you feel the need to carry a sidearm, move to a state that does.
But you must go through a course, and if you have a record don't bother. (Because they won't grant you one.)

Guns only have two purposes.
a) HARM
b) KILL

No matter what people CLAIM their intentions for a gun is, if push comes to shove, all a gun can do for you is to harm or kill another human being. Are you willing to do that?

Keep in mind that crazy people don't concider themselves crazy. Imagine a world where all the insane people are armed "to the teeth". Threatening them with your own gun is not likely to bring them to their senses

You don't have to imagine it. Such is the case in Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City, Detroit, etc. etc.
But there are places where sane people own firearms for protection. - Try imagining that!
- Law abiding people owning firearms.

Even more so if it's a pop-tart 'gun'.
Yea, that will get you kicked out of school.
Don't partially eat a pop tart, then point it at another!
Especially if you're under ten years of age....that makes you especially dangerous! - (Really happened.)

You bring up an interesting point. Mentally or emotionally challenged people in the U.S. have very easy access to all kinds of arms. This issue has become epidemic here and very little is being done to help with the matter. A long time ago - back in the 50's and 60's, people who had obvious mental illnesses were often placed in mental "asylums' with little chance of getting out. I knew of one of these places in Georgia and the reputation of that hospital was awful. Because of public outrage, these kinds of asylums were closed down and non-existent by mid 70's.

Now, however, people who should be getting help for a whole host of mental issues aren't getting any and the problem has manifested itself in a problematic homeless population and a low income/high crime population . Couple that with the ability of these people to buy arms with or without going through lawful channels is pretty much arming and producing a very dangerous society.

A new problem has cropped up as well. Back in the late 70's children were beginning to be "diagnosed' with all kinds of attention deficit "illnesses". We have since come up with all kinds of new names for incorrigible children or children that need special attention from parents or teachers. We don't have time to counsel or parent these children so we drug them with these "cures". The result was that through the 80's until now we have a huge segment of our population that grew up drugged and without a clear understanding of how that has affected them. I think it is particularly alarming that the massive school shootings where several school children are killed or injured by gunfire starting with Columbine in the 90's and most recently at Sandy Hook were perpetrated by very young adults or teens with a history of being treated for various attention deficit disorders. I am no expert but it sure seems linked to me!

The U.S. does absolutely NOTHING to stop the flow of drugs, however. Our politicians including our President will not touch drug companies or question what the health industry does. There will be no massive study questioning what the long term affect these drugs are having on U.S. citizens - only an attempt to take guns away or pointy objects.

In the U.S., our country was founded on rebellion. One of our most important amendments is our right to bear arms and to form militia. This right was NEVER intended to protect the rights of citizens to hunt or to defend themselves. Its sole intention was to protect the citizen against the GOVERNMENT. So - when the government makes attempts with these kinds of tragedy to remove the rights of citizens to own weapons or to restrict their use, we resist that attempt because of the greater cause of protecting ourselves against an opressive government. It's not only our nature, but our responsibility.

That being said, our homeless population continues to grow and to be a problem and our children continue to be drugged because we do not treat mental illness in a holistic manner or try to understand if a person is a danger to society. We only try to take their guns away or their cars away or some other object they might use carelessly. Our leaders are not going to watchdog our health industry or - most importantly - our drug industry. Has anyone heard about any restriction on Xanex lately? It won't happen. I believe our government will continue their restrictions on objects until we're all writing with crayons.

Ha! Maybe on a gun rack in a truck. Or in a pasture.
But try to carry a side arm open anywhere.
(It ain't a happening thing)
Try it.

Shouldn't, but do keep one under the seat.
A family hand me down that has more to do with the "standard" in my southeast rural area than actually needing one.

Idk about other places for sure but i know in texas you can walk down the street with a gun on your hip an its perfactly legal as long as its not conceled.... hence why its called a conceled carry licens an not just a carry licens... im pretty sure its like that in some other states to just not sure exactly which ones.

I live in Texas.
I can tell you......if you walk down the street with a weapon showing on your hip you will be surrounded by police.
I know it is 2nd amendment legal. But each city and county has it's own laws.
The only way you can carry if you are not a 'peace official' is to get a conceal carry license and carry concealed.
Many have them. Many carry concealed. That is why random crime is very low here in Texas.

Almost all of the murders are drug related.
The others are crimes of passion.
In the big cities there are muggings and rapes but in the smaller ones, they are unheard of.
All of the assaults or murders in the smaller towns in Texas are crimes of passion (acquaintances), or drug related.
- 999 out of 1000 of them.
