Hi everyone. I am a Christian woman who is struggling with the various acts of God approved abuse against various women in the bible. I know Jesus said for men to love their wives like He loves the church and that there are other examples of kindness and love shown to women, but there is also so much hurt and demeaning punishments and commands. Please help because i am so sad for them. Also because sometimes women were punished but not men in cases where they both should have been. It makes me confused and angry. I don't want to feel that way about a command of God. It isnt really that they were punished its how they were when it comes to justfied discipline. Also the lack of rights given early on. Please give me as much hope and peace of mind as you can. I am not familar enough to give references but some examplse are: the woman raped to death while her husband slept. Not a command of God of course but the man was not punished for allowing it to happen when he would have known. Also he is quite cold with her after as if it was her fault but seeks justice from the city. Its all very confusing to me.
Also when god permits a jealous but unsure husband to expose his wife's breasts to a priest and force her to drink a concoction to abort a fetus if she was unfaithful(not yet knowing if she was). How embaressing that would be and she might not even be guilty.
Another is the curse of bleeding longer when a birthed child is a girl.
And if a husband should divorce his wife aside from unfaithfulness he is commiting adultry. If she remarries he commits her adultry because its his fault but the man who marries her also comits adultry. Now what man would marry her then? And how would she support herself in those times without a man?
I love God but these things hurt my heart and I cant understand.

Just so everyone knows I do not want to abhor the bible. I am hoping for someone to shed some light on this topic to put my heart at ease.

Why don't you list the Scriptures that you are struggling with? That would be a great place to start.

And possibly, you need to understand the differences between the two Covenants.......

where are all these verses you are wanting explained?

and the woman raped to death ...? you said the husband was cold to her after that....how could she be raped to DEATH, if he was cold to her later,...I need chapters and verses to see what you are talking about...don't go by what someone else has told you, get scriptures.

Five year old thread with an OP that hasn't been on in five years. Doubt you'll get any responses.
