My favorite genre of books and films are definitely horror by far. Often during halloween one of the things me and my local brothers and sisters in Christ do is bike throughout the more decorated neighborhoods, go on a haystack horror ride, read some things from the Bible centered around horror and finish it off at someone’s house watching a few horror films and eating pizza until we pass out.

Christianity often comes up in horror films. Though sometimes negatively as a silly Christian trope praying to god instead of running away or something lol.

I’m mostly into nature based horror films. But was wondering what was everyone’s favorite horror series, movie, or book? Anything in it able to open up a naturally flowing conversation about god?

Looking forward to Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends!

I really like Halloween as well. Years ago I actually did a local church talk titled, “ Could Jesus have saved Michael Meyers” and was focused on some of the evil people that repented in scripture and brought up some real life examples such as Dahmer. I talked a tiny bit about the psychological side of psychopaths and that even those in the scale of 34-40 can still have their hearts fixed. Obviously always remain safe but that no one is beyond the reach of God. A theme rarely seen in horror is the “monsters” coming to light. It’s normally focused on light overcoming darkness.

The shining was great. Have you got to see the sequel, Dr. Sleep? I liked it a lot too. The tvs series on Netflix or Hulu centers around King’s universe is really good too. “ Castle Rock” and ties a lot of random backstories in.

I really liked Midsommar, Hereditary, Vivarium and enjoy the whole Alien/Prometheus series as well.

Frank Peretti ( I know I’m spelling his name wrong) comes out with some great horror books that are Christian.

I get enough horror exposure when I tune into politics. I suppose I'll be the individual who once enjoyed horror movies but I guess the Spirit has sensitized me to that kind of imagery. Like im okay with the old classics but newer stuff can be quite unsettling as someone uses a a ring shaped as a shovel for digging out peoples eyes.

Yes I unfortunately was talked into watching the green inferno by a Mexican coworker who loves the Aztec type of Indian cultures. I had no idea how disturbing it was going to be.

Basically, a plane goes down in the rainforest filled with college activist who tried to save the tribe. But the tribe didn't know they were friendly and instead killed, captured, and practices cannibalism on the survivors. The first boy to go had me feeling sick.

So needless to say I am no fan of modern horror movies or tv shows. Especially hate demonic ones.

I enjoy both classic ( even black and white films like Creature of the Black Lagoon) to newer films. Though I like some, I don’t like most shock value filled gore films. I like character and story development. Really into lovecraftian themed things.

I don't mind horror comedy like The Cabin in the Woods, Train to Busan, Walking Dead, or Addams Family. However, I do not like pure horror/gore. I do love crime mysteries if there are not too graphic.

Same here. Addams Family is terrific. I really liked the ridiculous amount of references in the cabin in the woods. All the throwbacks and even linked to the “elder gods” of Lovecraft.

They are supposed to be making a sequel to Train to Busan. I’ve always liked zombie films because it’s like a anti resurrection and showcases pure fruits of the flesh and animalization of humanity. I did get bored of Walking Dead though. I however appreciate their commonly placed biblical references.

So for me, I'm not really into horror and get scared easily. I avoided Barnes and Noble for years cause I saw a scary movie cover. Also, had the misfortune as a young child to be afraid of my bathtubs, which got me to take showers instead. I saw this movie trailer on TV one day, and I barely remember it, but all I remember is that showed a guy taking a shower, and this woman in a "hidden like environment" is watching him on a monitor. But then the guy taking a shower starts screaming in agonizing pain, and she smiles as she sees this. Then I think the final part of the trailer was of something bad happening to a lady taking a bath in a bathtub, but yeah I'm not the best with horror, especially anything with creepy clowns and dolls.

However, I do know about horror movies, you see on YouTube I watched horror movie reviews from a youtuber named Phelan Porteous, or just Phelous for short. I haven't watched his horror reviews in awhile, but I just like learning. I loved learning that there is a horror thanksgiving movie with a killer turkey...yes that's a real movie and it's really stupid. I will never watch it, but it was fun watching Phelous making fun of the movie. Also, I like to tease movies that get too many sequels with saying: "Well, I guess they are going to space now", cause Phelous made a joke about Jason going to space, had to look it up if it was real and yep, he does in the 10th movie, and I just find that so incredibly funny, lol

I'm actually more familiar with horror anime, and the one that was any good, is called "When they Cry" in English (The Japanese name is so much better). It has a cool steup, because it's based off a sound novel (Like a visual novel, but their is more focus being put into the sounds) and it has "mini-arcs". Basically, the group of characters start off happy, someone goes insane and they die. But when a new arc starts, everything is resets, they don't remember what happen in the last arc, so it's like "Groundhog day (Haven't seen the movie, but I know about the whole "time resetting thing") inspired horror setup". So while I like the setup, I watched this a long time ago before I came to know Jesus as my savior. This show is great horror, but it does touch upon iffy stuff I think most people on here wouldn't like the concept of "being spirited away" in the show and it's roots deep in Japanese mythology and culture. Plus this show can get pretty gruesome and bloody. I've seen other horror anime, but this is the only one I remember ever liking a lot, probably because it was the perfect fit for my "edgy high school self", lol.

But yeah that's about as much knowledge I have on horror, Phelous's horror reviews from what I remember are pretty great, but he does bad language here and there sometimes, so leaving that as a warning if anyone wanted to check out his horror reviews.

Edit: I forgot to mention for videogames, definitely know about horror games, but haven't played any.

When I was a kid I liked horror films. Pin Head in Hellraiser was awesome. Then about three years ago or so I watched the repeat of the first Hellraiser movie , I forget how many were in the franchise, and realized just how corny it was. But it was good fun at the time.

Friday the 13th was scary too. The first week it was in theaters there was an advertisement in the local paper in the state I was living in at the time. No kidding, wanted camp counselors in some camp in New Jersey. o_O:LOL: I don't know if it was a stunt by the studio that put it out but I always wondered how many people that watched Jason on the attack actually answered that advertisement.

Now though horror films aren't good fun anymore. I've seen the trailers and they're dark and deeply evil. And some feature the worst psychosis as a theme. I wonder about the screenwriters of movies like that. Where's their head at that they can come up with garbage like Saw 1 through however many, and today even worse.
I haven't been to a horror movie in years.

I agree with your dark and deeply evil estimation. Seems that the weaker the plot the more blood and guts. No redeeming value whatsoever.

Super cool. You’re the first person I’ve met that likes Higurashi no Naku Koro no. It’s been my favorite anime since 2007. I’ve watched all the seasons including the 5 episode joke season. I’m reading through all 20 something manga right now. I am also reading the parallel series “ when the seagull cries”. I want to red the entire series, and the third related series, the spider lily one. They are also coming out with a new Higurashi 2020 anime. I’ve seen the three live action films also but have not been able to watch the live action tv series from skynet. They say “Hotarubi” when the fireflies glow is also tied into the Higurashi universe.

In 2023 me and my fiancée are planning on going to the village that Hinamizawa is based off of which is Shirakawa-go. Almost identical. Can’t wait. Higurashi is my favorite series ever though. I like anime horror as well. Shiki, Elfen Lied, Red Garden, and several others.

I have watched Hellraiser too. I really only like the first film. I like the books way more by Clive Barker. The second book, which is completely different from the second and onward films, just came out a few years ago. It’s the Scarlet Gospel. But I liked the first book, Hellbound Heart way more.

My favorite book all time is also a horror novel and it’s by Donald Tyson, Alhazred. It’s a Muslim based meets Lovecraft horror book.

Oh my goodness, I didn’t think I would find another person on here that likes Higurashi ^_^, yeah the horror anime I’ve seen so far is Higurashi no Naku koro ni, Another, Shiki, Ghost hound (It’s more mystery than horror, but the sound design is amazing and gets legit creepy, though it does tackle the concept of “Out-of-body-experiences” so just warning you if you decide to check it out), and that’s about it. I’ve also seen “mystery/horror” and “action/horror” shows. That trip sounds so cool , I think it would be cool to visit the village the show is based on. I have a friend that introduced me to the show, but he said he won’t watch season 2 cause he only watches dubs, he don’t like reading subtitles, lol.

The Bible tells us to shun evil and have nothing to do with it.
When you allow such wickedness into your life and home you are giving it a right to come in, and it will cause havoc! You are allowing demons in!!
God wants His people separate from this because He loves them and He knows it is bad for them. He also requires those who love Him to obey Him.
Glory to God.

Are you born again of Jesus Christ? Do you know Him and love Him? I have to ask the question because there is clearly bad fruit in your life and something very wrong here and to be honest I think you are trying to lead naive Christians astray down the wrong path and away from the right one. God sees what you are doing.
You should fear Him.

Who knows what dreadful things you are allowing into your life when you open yourself up to evil; the only way to get this stuff out is to repent and tell it to go in the Name of Jesus and have nothing to do with the works of darkness but rather expose them as the Bible says.
There is help for Christians who need deliverance from such things. Private message if you want a link to a ministry who can help.

That would be a page turner for sure. I never read the books behind the Hellraiser series.
