well it is an important question because it is written in the bible that"kidders" will share the second death, but this is referring to people who actually don't take life seriously or worse yet make a mockery of the bible,so I'm glad you brought this up,because there is quite a difference between telling a few silly harmless jokes or acting as if you don't take life seriously and actually making hurtful and mocking jokes about anyone or the bible,or not taking your life seriously,it's good to have restraint.
yes that's right. Many make fun out of god...the bible ect and even comedians make jokes about god ect..and that's what i ment earlier when I said that there are those who think they are funny when actually they are NOT!!(yet to all those who will perish..they think they are hilarious!)

There is also a fine balance that we have to be mindful of at times.
Example; we may be having a laugh about a particular person among us and it could be say.....a funny story about something they did ...( I dunno..say they went to the airport and forgot their passport)...and for a few mins it is just a funny story and we have a laugh and joke. However the person to who the actual stories about starts to feel singled out to be the butt of everyone's jokes now and starts to feel wounded and yo can see them smiling but something's not right.
wisdom and tact are need Here as no one was belittling them deliberately..but it triggered something within them that caused them distress. The whole thing intended as light hearted humour becomes awkward. The wounded person will need reassurance and comfort inorder to be reconciled.Yet as nothing was said that was evil..it would of been more of a reflection of the sensitivity of the individual as sometimes we cannot tell what a person is sensitive too until I'll they become hurt.
Whereas another situation a person could be totally the opposite in their response to it all..they will just enjoy the banter going round and would be totally cool about it all.

So there is a kind of moral responsibility we need to have in regards to the subject of of our humour in this kind of setting.

yes it it can be good.most of us have one it at some point.

yet if a person can't help laughing at themselves/putting themselves down (hidden by humour) often they actually do see themselves at a joke and are internally suffering from low self esteeme which manifest as laughing at themselves.
Sure, they say a lot of comedy comes from pain. Many of the famous comedians say this. It's a way to process their pain. I don't know if you are familiar with Jay Leno and David Letterman. They had competing late night shows in the US. Anyway, Leno's comedy was kind of upbeat, happy. He seems a well adjusted guy. Letterman's was darker, more sardonic. He seems a guy that has some internal strife going on that gets expressed through comedy. I like both types, personally.

Most people seem to want to date someone with a great sense of humor.
It's always high on the list of traits we hope to find in a companion.

I've been lucky enough to break down barriers with my humor.
...put people at ease in an otherwise uncomfortable situation.

People love to laugh, they love to surround themselves with others who can make them laugh.
I think its the key in getting someone to loosen up and from there it becomes easier to chat about the deeper things in life...God, family, personal problems, etc. Those who come in with a serious, real is raw, tough love attitude don't seem to get this one simple little thing...

Just lighten up a little bit...l'm pretty sure God never intended us to be that uptight
...you're so darn serious you're making me sweat.

Man. Wow. I just did an entire post about humor in a serious tone.
Its giving me a headache.

I'm gonna go play with my Legos now...my daughter's been hoggin' them bad boys up all night.
She never puts them back in my toy box, and it drives me crazy.

I had a friend in school who would say that about me a lot. He would say some other stuff about me that wasn't so nice as well. Looking back, maybe he wasn't such a good friend after all.

Ä sense of humor is tantamount, but only if you are a comedian.

without the gift of Godly humor, this world
be an even sadder place...TY Jesus for laughter,
it truly is an amazing medicine...

it would almost be impossible to count the times my
husband makes me laugh throughout every day...:)

What I see funny...I mess with my husband with fun, like this....He use to at night at bedtime ask "Are you ready for the light?" I would say "No!"...and it would baffle him, and so he kept the light on, while looking at me doing nothing. He would ask again, and again, I would say "No!"...When he finally asked "What is gong on?", I explained. "I am not ready for the light, because it was already on...at this point the dark is what I was waiting for!" lol
I also like certain commercials, like this Progressive commercial...it reminds me of BDF

A fun, clean sense of humor is a must for me to get along with people. And an ability to laugh at ourselves is very helpful too :D

I'll tell you how important a sense of humor is, an ugly man can get a 9 to date him if he's funny.

My guy picked me up when I got back from a business trip last week and told him a good joke, one that I cant repeat on here. Anyways, as I told it, I looked serious and as he kissed my neck, he whispered in my ear that he can always count on my sense of humor to brighten his day as that is one of the main reasons why he loves me so much

So yes, humor is very important and people that laugh together will stay together :)

I laugh at everything.
Seriously.
Other people laughing makes me laugh.
Reading this thread even makes me laugh.
I think I might have an addiction to laughter. :D
It's a problem

Do you ever laugh so much you pee your pants? If not, you have no problem.
