How did welfare affect the Great Depression?
While attitudes toward government assistance began to change during the Great Depression, going on welfare was still viewed as a painful and humiliating experience for many families

the dems created a thinking among some that they were victims and the world owed them a living, thus we are where we are.
Not scriptural at all, Christians don't think this way, satans minions do.

welfare is anathema to capitalists. Capitalism and corporate need debt slaves, tired and hungry workers, and consumers to survive. I people are on welfare they aren't doing that. also from satans perspective, some people who are removed from the detestable corporate ideology start to wake up to the illusion and lies of the corporate world. Money is satans number one weapon, anyone who denies his authority is doing good works for Gods kingdom. Another thing is, sadly, some people for whatever reasons, cannot work or don't have the capacity to work in an effective manner, they need assistance. Also the amount of corporate welfare here in Australia is mind blowing, it goes far beyond what our government pays out in welfare assistance many times over.

Agree, fix the corp welfare worth billions then get to the little family deciding they're better off on welfare than to work for minimum wage.

A class deemed the working poor should not exist. I was always happy to know my tax money went to Health Education and Welfare. If there were cheaters my heart was always settled by the fact that the truly needy were being helped.

I would gladly welcome any help during that time or this one. I like it when people help me to help them.

The wicked ruin everything. Welfare is to help those struggling. There are so many stupid things our taxes are wasted on, I'd rather give to this cause verses the others.

Of course I know of teen girls who were told to get pregnant bc their family hit the child cap on welfare. That's in the inner city. Yea...like I said the wicked ruin everything.

Wait, wait a minute... I'm getting mixed messages here. I'm hearing "Welfare is EEEEEVIL!" and I'm hearing "Welfare combats the EEEEEEEEVIL corporations!"

Is it good, or is it bad, or is it bad because of greed but could be good if everybody played fair or is it just ludicrous and we should put the poor back on the gleaning system?

welfare is to help the widows, the orphans and elderly i.e the vulnerable. Because the war killed lots of men and people needed to get on their feet again, but thats actually hard to do when half your able population got killed and maimed. The ones that returned were traumatised, plus losing extended family meant childcare had to be done with strangers.

The whole reason we had welfare was because of the silly war, and people lost homes. land and their livelihoods. It wasnt as if a lot of people had money squirreled away or they could just go find somewhere else to live and start over and buy a place. And dont forgot all that land where blood had been shed was devastated. Not to mention polluted due to nuclear fall out AND poisoned.

there are people that when the worst happens, are too proud to accept help and would rather beg and steal than accept help. Then there are others that are grateful.
I would prefer my tax dollars are going to the needy orphans and widows or the sick who cant help themselves and need looking after than rich people who dont need my help..or heaven forbid, funding MORE wars.

"Anyone that doesn't know of Government Food Commodities, has not a clue of
being poor and raised by a single grandmother. Thank God, we knew what family
values were, and I thank God for the time that was, and I thank God for 'grandma'....( R.I.P. )
that raised my brother and I, and took us to church........I may be older than dirt,
but rest assured.....the good old days are priceless!........believe it!

Grandmas are great. I was thinking about mine just the other day, how warm and wise she was. Maybe I am as old as you? That does not matter anyways.
