Pentecost (Greek) Shavout (Hebrew)

At the 1st Pentecost (Ex 19) on Mt Sinai, God gives Moses the Law. God cut a COVENANT, with the Israelites. Marking them as his own set-apart people.

1st Pentecost: The Nation of Israel is Born!

Acts 2:1-4 Temple Mt, 1st Pentecost after the Lord Jesus resurrection. God gives the Holy Spirit. Cutting a NEW COVENANT, opened to any/all that would believe on Christ's sin redemptive sacrifice.

1st post resurrection Pentecost: The Christian Church/Body of Christ is Born!

Christ places his Holy Spirit into believers as a "SEAL" at the moment of salvation. References of the Holy Spirit given as a seal: 2 Corinthians 1:22, Eph 1:13-14, Eph 4:30, 2 Timothy 1:14, 2 Cor 5:5.

The prepositional phrase "IN CHRIST" is a positional statement & appears over 60 times in Pauls writings.

Believers are postioned-in & sealed-with, God's Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13-14) the moment they place their Faith in Christ's redemptive, sin atoning, sacrificial death (sins requires wage PAID), burial (proof Christ died) & resurrection (God's receipt, payment received $ accepted) see 1 Cor 15:1-4.

Shavout (Hebrew), Pentecost (Greek)

Known in the Old Testament as the Feast of Weeks (Levs 23:15; Deu 16:9) Also called "Feast of Harvest" in Exodus 23:16.

1st Pentecost (Ex 19): when the Law/ministration of death (2 Cor 3:7) was given & 3000 souls fell/died (Ex 32:28)

1st post recurrection Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4): The same day there were added to them about 3000 souls/saved (Acts 2:41).

Leviticus 23:
15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:

16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.

17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations ""two wave loaves"" of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be ""baken with leaven"" they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
(NOTE: What?) 2 wave loaves "BAKED WITH LEAVEN" on Pentecost?

WHY:
They represent believers from both, Old Testament/covenant & New Testament/covenant believers.

Old Covenant & New Covenant assemblies. Of both ages were full of leaven, that is, sinful people. (Eph 2:12-16)

But God accepts them & us because of FAITH placed in the finished redemptive work of Messiah/Jesus the Christ. That cleanses & removes ALL sin (1 John 1:7)

Long standing Pentecost tradition:

BOOK OF RUTH
For 3500 yrs the Book of Ruth has been read every Pentecost. The story of Boaz a Kinsman Redeemer. A shadow of Christ & his Bride/Church. Boaz a wealthy landowner of the tribe of Judah. Takes Ruth, a gentile, for his wife.

Ruth 3:9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: ""spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid"" for thou art a near kinsman.

(NOTE: Spread therefore thy skirt (TALITH) over thine hand maid: This verse is a marriage proposal. When a Jewish man married a woman, he threw the end of his his skirt (TALITH) over her head, covering her, to signify that she was now under his covering/protection. When we say yes to Christ, he seals us with his Holy Spirit of covering/protection)

Rabbinic traditions:

DECORATING THE BRIDE

Jews stayed up all night studying Scripture. In the hope that they will receive a special blessing. They believe that God will favorably answer prayer by briefly opening up the heavens and supply a blessing. Sounds like Thes 4:16 to me! Christ is coming soon for his Bride/Church.

JUDGMENT OF THE FRUIT OF THE TREES:

There is a belief in Jewish tradition that trees are judged by God. A shadow of the Judgment Seat (Bema) of Christ.

Paul gives a picture of the Judgment Seat (Bema) of Christ. 2 Cor 5:10. The fruit of one’s works will be judged & rewarded. No judgment for sin here, Christ was judged & paid for ALL the believers sins on the cross. (Col 1:14 & Rom 4:7)
