I have gone to an "Assembly of God" church for nearly 30 years. Recently my church has turned its pulpit over to some NAR types. I don't know if I should use names or not. One, who claims that he and his wife hold the "office of prophets" is very troubling because even though there were prophets mentioned in the new testament there was no "office" of prophet. these people claim that the office of prophet was restored to the church during the latter rain revival in 1949 and my pastor believes that is true.

The Assembly of God teaches that prophets in the new testament were never mentioned as holding a recognized hierarchical office and if that is the truth then you cannot restore to the church something it never had. Also, if that is the truth my pastor is lying and if my pastor is true the denomination that ordained him is lying.

Prophets and Personal Prophecies

Modern day self proclaimed prophets claim all the authority and respect of the "office" of prophet. "touch not the lords anointed, do his prophets no harm" But say they are only human and can make mistakes, therefore, what they prophecy in Gods name might not come true but that doesn't mean they are not prophets just human. Thy can't have it both ways, if you claim to be a prophet of God then everything you say in Gods name must happen or you are a false prophet worthy of death.

There is a lot more that is happening that I will post later. There are a lot of people at this church that I believe truly love the Lord and I am afraid they will be led astray. I have not had the courage to speak to my pastor face to face about these things.

I have spent my entire christian life in the AoG and don't no anything about churches and denominations. I listen a lot to Pirate Christian Radio and Fighting for the Faith which is Lutheran.

Bye for now.

So is your church no longer an Assembly of God?

I think I would have to determine for myself if aligning myself with a particular denomination was much different.... if I am doing it simply because I think I am supposed to be of that denomination.

Prophets, Apostles,... They are all servants. No more and no less. Maybe with certain anointing and gifts but all are servants in the end with no greater authority than anybody elses who is in the Lord.
If you (as in anyone) get/s called BY GOD to be a prophet they shouldnt take pride in it, but be humbled by the responsibility that you get as one.
Plus I dont see why people get proud of that anyways. Prophets are hated in their midst and slaughtered. And its not a nice calling, but something that if you really think about it, no one wants.
Theyre human as everyone else so they struggle with anyone else.
Someone who takes pride in their anointing is not serving God, but himself.

It is still Assembly of God.

I grew up in the AoG and at times still attend one. I haven't seen anything like what you are saying and I would maybe question it. I have seen and heard of a lot of denominations where this has happened to them and people have left due to this. My Brother-in-law left the Methodist church he attended due to the pastor team of husband and wife were making the church to be more about them than Scripture.

I guess you need to decide if what your church is doing lines up with Scripture.

Do
you know of others who feel as you do? If so you could take your concern to your pastor together. If the pastor will not listen you need to go to your super intendant. There is definitely something wrong going on.This is a fad that went through AofG years ago. It will most likely split the church. A pity but Ive seen it many times.

Where do they get the idea that prophets in the Old Testament were RESPECTED? Stoned? Yup. Beaten? Yup. Beheaded? Yup. Oh, I see, those must be acts of respect..............aaahhhh, well, nevermind.

BTW..........FYI.......prophets do more than just speak of "future" events.......(some reading can be found here)

What is a prophet in the Bible? - GotQuestions.org

(excerpt)

Usually, the prophets God sends are despised and their message unheeded. Isaiah described his nation as a “rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction. They say to the seers, ‘See no more visions!’ and to the prophets, ‘Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions’” (Isaiah 30:9–10). Jesus lamented that Jerusalem had killed the prophets God sent to them (Luke 13:34)

This is how I feel if they don't say oh sorry I was wrong they are about themselves but either way no matter what domination you still believe God had a son names jesus who he had been given as a sacrifice so that we could inherit the things he inherited like the holy spirit which does many things for our spirits and our bond with him and God so may God bless you and show you the things that are to come that's bigger than a church but not bigger than him. Lobe ya brother may he show you what is to come.

Exactly... The OT law on the prophets makes it clear that a prophet cannot make one mistake,, If they do so then they are a false prophet and are not to be listed to... I would get out of that church.. Get into the scripture read it and pray to God for understanding as you do.. Stick to it as your foundation for the rest of your life.. In these recent times a lot of false doctrines have been infiltrating many churchs... Remember Noah stood alone during His times.. And as the true Prophecy says about the end times says..

Matthew 24: KJV
36 ¶ But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

I've heard people use the term 'office of the prophet', I've even said it myself a time or two, but it's not an actual office. I think the term is used to differentiate one who receives a gift of prophecy vs one who is called to be a prophet (they are not the same). But it's not like you have a desk and 'Prophet' engraved in your name plate. Or if you do, see what Demi said above.

This prophet also offers a "personal prophetic consultation" service you can sign up for on his web site. $250 a month gets you up to 2 hours of prophetic consultation. If prophecy is as the Holy Spirit moves than how can you put a price on it? Doesn't this make the Holy Spirit obligated to speak on the prophets command and not the other way around?

The pattern in the new testament is the prophets speak and the congregation judges what was said by the Word. In the old testament prophets were never judged but they were also put to death if they were wrong. If the consultation is "personal" than who is there to judge it?

The Bible tells us to give freely as we receive. Anyone who calls himself something and force people to pay, especially high amounts of money, is (at least for me) a no go.
The Holy spirit will speak when he wishes. I havent experienced often that he didnt have a word when it fit. But it does sometimes happen that theres just nothing. We cannot force him, he has a free will. And he will surly not let himself be abused. He comes and leaves as he wishes.
Jesus is the judge. Some things are better discussed alone. Its not on us to ''judge''.
I will though dare to say that many of the ''prophets'' arent prophets, but some clairvoyance targeting Christians. Happens more often than we think and we need decernment to see that

IF you are truly born again, you ARE THE CHURCH. Allow Jesus Christ to lead you,
and you will never go wrong...
