I was preparing to leave the house within a few minutes when I heard a banging on the front door. I was the only one home and though it was my moms daily package from her dealer (QVC)! I am so used to the UPS guy banging and then leaving, but this was louder.

I opened the door to hear a frazzled man screaming "there is a fire on the side of your house". I ran towards the side to see an area between my parents washer and dryer that was engulfed. I ran to get the phone to dial 911 and then out the door to get the hose around the other side of the house.

I'm so thankful to God for several reasons, some which are obvious - no one was injured.

I was minutes, I mean within 3 minutes of leaving the house! Had I left any sooner, the person who saw the fire would not have known where the waterhose was. This person happened to be in a car in the neighbors carport finishing up a phone call. Had he been inside the house....well no telling what how long it could have gone on before anyone noticed. I'm so thankful to God that all factors together left only a nasty smell, and a small area of burned up property. There was virtually no damage to the house. It was caused by an old dryer that my parents have on the side porch.

I didn't like having to tell my parents that there was a fire at the house, as they are not in the best of health, but they both seemed o.k. The day continued and we were able to nervously laugh about it, especially when my dad asked if we could go buy him new tshirts and underwear because it was part of what was burned up!

Then this evening.....there was a rain storm and the roof started leaking into thier bedroom!

I am thankful to God that no one has been hurt today and won't question why this all happened.

What I will continue to do is pray for a time where I can buy a new home for my aging parents. This is an extremely old house with constant issues and it saddens me that they have to deal with this.

But we are a strong family and have been through worse! Waiting to see God glorified through all of this, I know He will be. He always is!

God Bless!
