What's ok for christians to watch?

The part that is so hard to get across is be it standard or conviction, how do
we get it across to the one who is asking the question from being deceived ?
If standard doesn't get him away from it, then he needs to ask Jesus to help
him. Then conviction by the Holy Spirit will. I believe he is being convicted,
or he would not have asked. I know if my husband has something on TV
my spirit gets stirred up and obviously it does him too, because he knows I
am not comfortable with it. The Holy Spirit is the ultimate compass within.

I just mean current TV culture and how it presents and promotes homosexuality. And I'm not trying to sound crazy, but my kids were watching an animated show Sophia and the butler's voice is Tim Gunn, a gay TV personality. And my big fear is that we are not too far from them pushing a homosexual agenda through kids/teens TV shows, especially as people with those beliefs move into those professional positions, and position culture to meet their beliefs. I don't watch Game of Thrones, or any of those types of shows. I hear about Modern Family, Skins, etc, and I think it's a world we've never known before.

And I'm not trying to condemn anyone, but I know I want to walk more circumspectly tomorrow than I did today. And I hope that what I watch matches what I profess, which should be a desire for holiness. Man...if I turn out to be Ned Flanders...I mean I'm struggling with that thought right now, but ok praise Jesus!

Let me end it this way. The world created this idea that "Adults" have some license to sin. Or, since sin exists the world decided they would police it through age. As if age = maturity, but that is beside the point. I don't want to do something that I don't want my kids doing. Now be sensible with what I just wrote, but there is great truth in that I believe. So yes, the issue is parenting. But, when parents have this, "Oh I'm an adult and my parents don't inform me of my conscience anymore, I do" attitude we find ourselves with, as Mark Driscoll puts it, "A bunch of 30 year old boys that shave" (my paraphrase).

Wait...you were worried because the voice actor for a cartton show just happens to be gay? What child is a)going to care about who is the voice actor or b) try to figure it out anyways? What a paranoid reaction, talk about turning a molehill into a mountain. "Oh no this gay guy has a job in hollywood, voicing a cartton character, they must be trying to force their homosexual agenda on the children.."

Seriously get a grip. Raise your children right and stop worrying about the TV so much. Just because you can't handle it doesnt mean others are in the same predicament.

It's ridiculous now a days, how you can't even watch any type of show without some sort of nonsense in it. Good thing I stick to my Andy Griffin show....lol classic.

I love you but when your fingers hit the letters all I read is open rebellion. Bro...I don't obsess. I am ever aware of the times. if you love this world, which it seems you do, then giddyup and all that, but your posts reek of the type of error I used to know oh to well. The absolute tragedy is that we, as sinners, will put ourselves into a predicament that only God can get us out of. Oh, and then we'll say, "I don't know how I got here!" -- that's aimed at me, not you.. But if it makes you think at all...praise God for that.

It does come down to personal conviction and I get that. The problem I see is that the 21st century is already no-holds-barred. I cannot imagine what will happen. The level of sexual discourse in movies and TV, the endless innuendo in kids' shows (often meant for adults but still absorbed by children)--the current teens are going to be so warped in ten years. We're going to see exponential growth toward destruction. I know the other side of the fence, so I'm grateful for the convictions He's given me.

I think that is the problem. Why do we love them? The world loves them too. I think this should bring us to the reality that if we love something that the world loves maybe we are being taken? What do you think?

Personally, It's all about convictions...Does the TV show influence you in a negative way and ungodly thinking... Somebody might feel convicted watching the Walking Dead...I don't...and I'm convicted watching Family Guy...so I don't watch it.

But be forewarned about what you let into your mind and spirit...the things you let in...eventually come out. You should always be cautious about what you watch and what you are convicted by.

You also have to remind yourself that you should not be investing more time into TV than God because then the TV becomes your God.

but, according to some folks here we are allowed to have personal convictions , we have follow RULES that they make. not the Bible, them. they just use the Word to prop up their anti-whatever position, in this case what we can watch on t.v.

That's between the person and the Lord. For the Lord knows your straights and your weakness. And the Lord says, Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them (Mark 7:15). Other then the might be obvious that some should not be watching that would feed into that person sinful nature. And that person should know what that is. We all fall short of God's glory. And not everyone's struggles are the same. I believe many on this post are sharing the same things (in different words). As long as the person is honest with them self, for we know we can't hide anything from God.

If we really know something is what Jesus would not watch if He were
visible sitting in our room with us, we would not be comfortable. We would
be squirming, very uncomfortable, aware He is with us. That is how we
should view it now, don't you think ? The Holy Spirit resides in us.

You mentioned Family Guy. Oh my gosh, one night my husband had fallen
asleep on sofa watching a Western. He changes channels in his sleep. I
could not believe what I was hearing... he changed channel in his sleep,
and I am hearing descriptive talk about homosexuality. It was awful. I
had no idea it was like that. I had to wake hubby up and ask him to please
change channel.
Our kids are exposed to so much bad... How do we convince them 'good'
is a must, when adults don't even see 'bad' in the media?

But then even that is dependent on how we view Jesus and how much access we've given Him to our hearts/lives.

I know there have been some convictions I've grown cold on, then hot again. Like I dumped secular music when I accepted Christ as my savior and then years later opened myself up to listening to some again. Then a little more. And one day, maybe 4 years ago, I was listening to a song in the car and I was convicted hard, like realizing I had completely allowed secular music like Lilly Allen to play and…I had given myself over to purposefully listen to ungodly music. And I dumped it.

Same thing happened with some TV shows and movies. "Yeah it's a great movie but it has some nudity in it." "Oh that's fine. No biggie I'll just look the other way, pretend there's a bluebird in the corner of the screen." Wrong. It all opens the door in the wrong way.

So in reverse, if we truly open every door, every window to the Holy Spirit…I don't see how we could stop our quest to be lean Christians, cutting away more of the world's fat the closer we walk with God.
