I invested a lot of time researching diet and fitness. What I concluded is that just about everybody is doing the exact things correctly to gain weight and sabotage their health. It surprises me how simple it is to achieve optimal health and physique but people prefer to complicate the obvious to their detriment. At age 42, I can outrun the 13 year old competitive athletes I train and my friends tease me about looking like a stripper when I take my shirt off at the beach. However, I don’t go to the gym and I spend less than two hours a week training, if you can call it that. Still I manage to enjoy dessert whenever I want.

I’m not genetically blessed, or cursed, just average. The key is just realizing how God designed us. Food is for fuel, and repair, not pleasure. There were no fridges or stoves or mixing bowls, there wasn’t kitchens and refineries. Health is simple. Our body is designed to extract nutrients out of food found in nature. During summer months when vegetation is available, that’s what you eat. During the winter, animals are eaten. I eat plainly. At break at work, I have a piece of fruit. At lunch I might have a salad, OR nuts OR meat OR cottage cheese. I eat like this 80% of the time.

The body is a machine that needs to be respected as such. It is adaptive and predictable. Fat accumulation is your body responding to poor nutrition, and cold. Before air conditioning in the summer people slimmed down because too much fat overheated the body, which caused the body to be less hungry and burn fat.

Anyway, I just read the thread on eating fruits with veggies and decided to start my own thread. Here’s a breakdown if you care,

Fruits - half hour to degest
Veggies- an hour or two
Fats and meats- three to five depending on how fine the meat was

There are all kinds of things to improve your digestion which helps nourishment find its way to your cells. One is apple cider vinegar. This is like an aphrodisiac to your gut flora increasing enzymes. Another is fasting. Another is not drinking water with meals because it dilutes stomach acid hampering effectiveness.

Regardless, these things you may or may not have heard before, but I can tell you, it works.

My problem is that I am underweight and not overweight. I can eat anything I want whenever I want and still won't gain weight. Occasionally, I might add a pound or two but soon will lose it.

Do you want to gain weight? How old are you? Do you train? What foods do you eat? Also speed of digestion to be considered.

I am 63 years old, no time for training as I work full time in a physical job and also maintain a household. Eat just basic foods, bread, milk, juice, beef, chicken, occasionally pork, fish, vegetables, and various canned fruit. I believe that I have a high metabolic rate that rapidly burns calories. Yes, I wouldn't mind gaining a few pounds, like 10 to 20. Smoking don't help either but I do abstain from alcohol. Maybe I should take up beer drinking. Or maybe not.

When I smoked I couldn’t gain weight. After I quit, I gained 30 lbs of muscle eating normal and exercising moderately.

I think it was probably due to stress. First an ongoing fight with my mom and sister, then a wicked flea infestation, then I found out I had cancer, then my depression overcame, then Tequila got sick, then I moved and Tequila got sick twice as bad, then I ended up with sciatica and a herniated disk and then I had to send Tequila back "home". So I've had ALOT of stress in the last 8 years.. lol
