Speaking of addictive food, I started a carbohydrate addict's diet. I couldn't last one day on a diet before. I've been on this six days and have lost some weight, but the best thing is I can actually stay on it. The intense, uncontrollable cravings are gone. The first two meals I have protein and vegetable and the last meal I have protein vegetable and a dessert of my choosing. Of course there is more to it. I got the book on it so am doing what it says and its working. Someone on chat told me about it and how their relatives lost a great deal of weight. Each meal is filling and you get to treat yourself with any high carb food you like at one meal. I was praying for something to happen because my eating was so out of control. This diet has been around since 1999 but I never heard of it before. Its easy to stay on because you aren't completely deprived. It is suppose to control the insulin that comes into the blood. Then this controls your cravings.

I'm going to give the "21 Day Sugar Detox" a try. It's only 3 weeks. I got the e-book, but the physical book is out now too and has new recpies, etc. It's similar, but it is a very focused and comitted type of diet - no cheating allowed for 21 straight days. I'm not sure i could do it, but i think it would be very good for me.

It's very paleo in nature, but in level 1 you are allowed half a cup of a grain or legume. It talks about exactly why sugar and artifcial sweetners are so bad for you and what it does to your body. Sugar, which includes refined carbs, is very addicting. She also wrote "Practical Paleo" which i plan to buy soon. It seems like a very healthy way to eat, but i would still eat beans and quinoa/brown rice, etc. Diane Sanfilippo is the author, btw.

I changed from a low-fat diet to a low-carb diet 2 months ago and I have to say I like this one much better! I can actually eat healthy fats...which helps me to stay full. I,too, noticed the carb cravings disappearing! I have to be careful not to eat too much fat because I need to lose 25 lbs. Some low-carb experts say that you can eat as much fat as you want but I think this is unrealistic...especially for older women whose metabolism has slowed down.

I have been using liquid stevia as a sugar substitute which I've read as being the 'healthiest'. I guess the healthiest thing would be to use NO sweetner...but I'm just not there yet :).

Since being wheat-free, I've noticed my waist line decreasing (though my weight refuses to budge). Four days ago I ate at a restaurant and ate too many carbs and my waistline inflated again ;). It's rather strange what genetically changed wheat can do to your body! Our food industry has used chemistry and experimentation to come up with foods that are addicting and have strange affects on our digestive system and also on our minds. These food combinations are targeting the reward areas of our brain. Too much technology isn't always good :(.
