God Bless all of you, I am a new Christian, I received the Holly Spirit about 10 years ago, but I have been alone in a catholic country. I lost myself in the new age movement for some time. I got out a long time ago. I asked GOD for forgivness of all my sins in the name of Jesus, and have been for around 2 years connecting with Him and trying to learn the Bible. I have searched a lot, and I found you.
One thing I have so manny doubts is about God's name, does it make a big diference? Also wich is the best bible? I have an old one, but don't know if it is suitable.
I thank you all in advance, and God Bless

I'm not sure what the best bible is but my favorite is the New King James. Any modern version is generally reliable. God goes by many names but in the book of John it states that God is Love. I would make that a centerpiece to build upon your spiritual knowledge. If you can understand your old bible than it is indeed suitable. Glad to have you as a member of our family. God bless you as well. Welcome to CC.

Welcome to CC, MariaCecilia! As long as your Bible has 66 books from Genesis to Revelation, it should be quite adequate. There are many translations, so unless your old one is falling apart, you might want to take time to research the issue. There is a thread on the subject in the Bible Discussion forum currently. :)

Welcome MariaCecilia nice to meet you. I love the scenery in Portugal and the people. I use many names when referring to God such as Yahweh, Adonai , ElShaddai and Jehovah. You may want to look them up and visit the history on each. Good questions, God bless you!

There is acceptable names and titles for our LORD Jesus in every language.. I totally reject the sometimes put forward doctrine that only the Hebrew name of our LORD and Messiah will be effective in prayer.. All languages where created by God and thus His name will be glorified by representatives of all nations in their own tongues..

I trust in the King James Version of the Bible as the inspired Word of God..

Oh and i was born into a catholic family but became a Christian after reading the Bible for the first time when i was in my early 20's.. I have been a Bible believing Christian now for 30 years thanks be to God for showing me mercy and leading me to salvation.. :)

Hello, I would say that the bible you find the easiest to understand and
feel inspired by, is the most suitable for you.

I would tend to avoid any bibles with a Catholic angle, commentary though.

As for what to call God there are so many names in the bible.
Alpha, omega, lamb, father, I am, redeemer, conquer.

If not sure stick with Father or God, but it can depend on what you need is and
where you are at spiritually. Some people find it helpful to prayer to Jesus for example.
Have a listen to this.

He listens to our heart. He speaks in a still small voice to anyone who is humble enough to listen. He wants relationship, not religion. Just believe upon the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus. He will hear even our silent prayers if we are sincere. Yield to His Spirit. It will help you pray.

Romans
8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.
8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.

I call Him Lord and read the KJV, but only because that is what I am accustomed to doing. As I said, He listens to your heart and speaks in many mysterious ways to all those who would hear and are willing to follow Him. Remember that He loves you and wants to be close to you.

Welcome to CC, sister Maria! Portugese is such a beautiful language. Many from Brazil are here. Bless you.

Revelation
3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Wherever brothers and sisters are gathered together to pray and worship, there His TRUE Church is. Your distrust of 'churches' is understandable. There are good, solid Christians in here. Take time and let the Spirit help you to seek them out. Godspeed.

God uses many names for Himself to describe different aspects of His identity. Name is identity, and ultimately God is our savior in the grand scheme of things. So when God came in flesh He took the name Yeshua. (Jesus is the latinized form of the Hebrew name Yeshua, which means "salvation" or "to rescue".) "God of our Salvation" appears a lot in the Bible even before Jesus. And He is much more than just our savior, too.
God is lawful, but He is not a lawyer trying to snare you with clauses and small print. He isn't legalistic about His things, but rather looks at the hearts. So "no other name" should be understood as "no other god can save" or "no one else can save" rather than a strict letter combination that must be invoked (that would be like some pagan spell). It means only the very creator of all is able to redeem and give eternal life. Other "gods" are empty hope to their followers. God bless

I thank your kind words, and for the Bible quotes (I will mark them). Last time I was with my doctor she prayed with me and it was blissfull! Its such a big diference when we have someone else praying with us.

Hi MC, I just joined today. I don't think it matters what name you use. We are all of differing faiths and races.
I think what you call your person God in your prayers is what matters most.
Cheers
