If you insist you are NOT a Christian, then you are claiming to the world that you do not follow Jesus.
yes agreed

dont let semantics cause divison new guy

we are to be of one mind

and being christian means we follow christ

not a denomination

but get wisdom the Word of God
the Holy bible

and we take it literal

to say you arent christian does by definition mean you dont follow christ

Hi everyone. Nice to meet you. I hope my engagements with you here will be beneficial to all of us.
The way I see it, it is good practice to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:34-40), no matter what faith we subscribe to.

Yes.... Muslims do that, too.

Hi everyone. Nice to meet you. I hope my engagements with you here will be beneficial to all of us.

Hi I am Maria and just arrived here too. I used to be a lukewarm Christian, Catholic actually, which means I wasn't actually worth being called a Christian at all. Now I am a real believer, learning a lot about the Scriptures and all the debates, and doubting my Catholicism. This is a nice place for learning and transformation and everybody here is breathtakingly nice. Even if you are not Christian, in the prayers forum you can share your feelings or support very nice people and learn from their testimonies. Feel free to DM me if you want to talk. Cheers!

Christian is what the first disciples called themselves.

Acts 11:26 NKJV
[26] And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole
year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples
were first called Christians in Antioch.

Nothing wrong with the name Christian, it nails your colours to the mast.
To the OP if you feel the name Christian has become tarnished (and I do understand
really I do). Then make it your goal to be the best Christian you can be and
to untarnished that title.

Well followers of Jesus, as far as the gospels are concerned, are called disciples of his. Some of his followers afterwards were referred to as Christians. But since we all know what today's Christianity stands for, I prefer to distance myself from it, nevertheless a disciple of Jesus. So I'm a follower of Jesus but not a christian and that has a lot of meaning to it.
You know I totally get you. I had none Christian as my answer and some assumed I wasn't a follower of Jesus. I agree with you but please don't make this about you. It seems like you entered with a chip on your shoulder. I soon changed my profile to Christian to make others feel at peace with themselves and me. God Bless

So Geo - Hello my friend how are you? So, are you saying you are a believer and a follow of Christ? Or, if you prefer to label those meanings another way thats ok with me....I am discerning you have a lot to share with us, is that right? The reason I say that is because you seem like an intelligent person, so the title you used was to draw us in to the cause of your concerns over the term "Christian." Would that be fair to assess? What would you like to share, I will be quiet, and I invite you to share....I would love to hear your testimony. My name is Dan by the way.

oh brother, people talking about how important it is to be called a "christian"instead of showing how to be a "christian" as in speak to this new person with kindness and compassion, not threats,in fact it's as if you are declaring that there aren't any other people whom serve God or believe in Jesus as Savior, and that they must be called"christians",while it's a fine name to call oneself it doesn't add anything to your stature nor your spirit,so this person says they aren't christian, does that mean we turn them away? "NO" because God is long suffering that all shall be led to repentance not just the righteous or have people so quickly forgotten whom Jesus came to save, not the righteous but the sin sick lost, this person has come here for guidance not lectures, I'm sure, not everyone so quickly wants to claim themself a christian,I've been through this as well,I didn't want for so long to call myself a christian because I thought that if I did so then I wouldn't be able to talk to our other brothers and sisters in faith, the jewish community, and I found it to be a boastful claim and didn't want to offend God by perhaps having huge pride or ego through such a claim, but now I realize I can still be called a christian and seek to help others who are lost or even someday talk to others who serve God faithfully such as,the jewish community, and this a choice, not a mandatory act,and as far as this silly claim that we must be called this, how soon we forget what Jesus said upon this very matter,"whom are my brethren?" "they who hear my sayings and keep them, the same are my mother, father, sister, and brother" as I said before "children of God" because though true Jesus said "there is no way unto the father except through me" but then why did Jesus say the Jews were his people if the gentiles were to be favored? nay the gentiles weren't favored over the jews,in fact if you read the bible carefully alongside the holy spirit and not as a book, you would find that paul was going to preach unto the Jews of Jesus and Salvation but they said"we are not worthy" so because of this Jesus told Paul to preach unto the gentiles of Jesus and Salvation,so if you look "clearly" at what is written we the gentiles later named christians are only able to have such a major role with Jesus because the jews wouldn't except their claim to salvation, and therefore such boasts of what name to call ourselves is of no consequence,if you believe in the father, son, and the holy ghost, and strive to lead others to be saved but try to remember those who do not have the same role, such as the Jews, whom serve God yet don't accept Jesus as Savior, for they are to enter the gates of heaven first, where as we the gentiles must stay outside for awhile though we are still blessed,so think not upon names as to what you stand for because if you truly serve God or likewise Jesus, then this shall be self evident by "the fruits you bear" not some "name" or to put it more plainly "God holds the power, glory, and kingdom forever" "not us"so please be mindful that we still have a job to do for God,which is to lead all to God,not away nor to us,because anything done of ourselves supposedly for God is self righteousness and "self righteousness is as filthy rags" as in no use,so please cast aside your pride so you can be useful to God by being compassionate toward "all" not only whom you think fit,so that you may lead them to the right path to take instead of knocking them off course with venomous and proud words because lastly did not Jesus say to his disciples a new commandment? yes indeed"love each other as I have loved you and teach others I have taught you"so thus if you can't care then you can't teach so please think more on what God and Jesus would want you to be concerning anyone and then try to reach out to one such as this individual to teach and show compassion, not judge, lest we be judged,For remember BEFORE you were with God or Jesus you needed guidance and whether this individual is for God or against God it is our job as you put it to be "christians" as in listen to what they have to say,and if they have questions for us, to answer as best we can,and perhaps lead them one day to believing as we believe, with truth not badgering, kindness not condemnation, and understanding not ignorance,GOD will handle the rest, have "FAITH",once again Geo man welcome and feel free to discuss with me on here, though I do understand their warnings of being more clear about your faith but hey nobody is "perfect" and anyways deleting is not left to us on here so don't worry about it too much,me particularly I would only have a problem with a thread or post you make understandably if it were to have cussing or obscenity in it,you'll get the hang of it,I am and I'm on a "cell phone" well that's all for now I hope you'll stay and find what forum is right for you and perhaps you'll make friends here too,and may God bless you!

My, what a fascinating concept. I would welcome you over to the "conspiracy" forum to begin practicing your Christian faith. How refreshing that would be...compared to your behavior over there thus far.

Shock us all...and behave like a Christian over there for once. Thanks in advance for any consideration.

because God is long suffering that all shall be led to repentance
Again - quite the fascinating concept. My question - do you sense God drawing you to repent...of your ridiculing behavior over at the "conspiracy" forum? Just wondering.

A Christian is a follower of Christ,
Sure the term has been abused, but that does not make you not Christian.
I don't agree with everything said and done by each and every Norwegian, but it does not make me any less Norwegian :)

Welcome to CC!
"Norwegian" is a fancier term. Let's say you were, when they existed, a Nazi, would you still fancy calling yourself a Nazi today? You say the term has been "abused", that's true, and because of that never-ending abuse, it has completely lost its first meaning. So, though I want to associate myself with Jesus, it makes a lot of sense, if am to help others associate themselves with the same man, to distance myself from a term that no longer represents him.

As much as I would love to be of "one mind" with every christian, I find that difficult because of what Christianity has become. If Christianity no longer teaches or does what Jesus taught, how do you expect us to be of one mind?

It's difficult to accomplish that verse if you subscribe to a faith that teaches you to disobey him.

I have not met a christian who's not "lukewarm" and the problem is not the Christians but this so called Christianity they subscribe to. The best it can do is make its adherents lukewarm.

Peace is not what brought Jesus here. See Mathew 10:35. I disagree with most of what the whole of Christianity teaches.
