Just wondering what people thought of christians watching shows/movies like supernatural? I know certain show's can open door's to the enemy to come into our life but I love these types of shows.

I was an avid supernatural / paranormal movie fan my young years
and I took it too far and nearly lost my mind. So, if you are a Christian
loving Christ, you can't serve two masters. Satan being one, Christ
the other. I have a testimony of the involvement in paranormal and
it is a frightening path to take. I would beg of you, please don't even
think about it. Don't take the path. If you are on it, then ask Jesus
to help you be delivered from it. If you are in deep, expect a battle
from the spirit world. This is what paranormal is.... Spirit world, ungodly
spirit world.
God bless you and help you see now before it is too late... J~ K~ 2

There isn't anything wrong watching them as long as you know your limitation. If you feel as though you are being affected by them .... then avoid them. Knowledge is POWER and I have learned a lot about the dark side when I was younger and it made me a stronger Christian. For example, I could not handle the "The Exorcist," and avoided watching it until I got mentally stronger and that was nearly a decade later. I will not watching any of these supernatural or paranormal movies after a certain hour. I know my limitations.

IMO, you are not stronger as a Christian because you would not allow yourself
to entertain something that Christ despises. This does not glorify God. The Holy
Spirit resides in a Christian. Do you not feel repelled by watching paranormal ?
Even if you don't feel it, your mind should tell you... Hey, this is not Christ like.
I feel you are misleading this person down a wrong path. JMO.

I like to get to the root of things so here we go. It's not about 'can we do this? can we do that?' 'am I allowed to?' On obscure things like this, even if your an immature Christian I would say Pray for discernment, grow close to God, watch God transform your heart and trust Holy Spirit to convict your heart of sin. He will do it! One thing that we do may not convict us now but as we grow it may later on as God works in your life. Have I explained myself clear enough? I'm so good at explaining my thoughts hehe Sometimes I find if I have to question an action, it's probably wise not to do it.

My testimony :
I started out with fascination with dark side. Scary things like death and ghost.
It went on to always being aware of something evil around. Or simply demonic
( I just did not know it was ). Next I began trying to learn card reading. Then
it was horoscopes, moved on to ouija board. That was when it really started to
be hard core. I was innocent in what I was doing with the board. It seemed harmless.
But, turns out for me it was the worse thing I was into. I had a lady who worked
it with me and she was a self proclaimed witch, not sure if she was, but she said
she was. I am a Christian by now... and so dumb. Anyway I was working the
board with her and I asked it ... who are you ? It said... Angel of Light. Sounds
good, right ? I did not know the Word of God yet. When I discovered Satan was
the Angel of Light I nearly came out of my skin. I was so shocked at how I was
deceived. It was after that God allowed the book to come to my house and let
me know what I was dealing with and how to get delivered. Wow. Let me tell
you... the ouija board would not burn. I mean not even a little singe. I had to
send it to the landfill with the garbage. It was only way to get rid of it. I was
reading novels about the supernatural. I believed in Edgar Caycee and Jeanne
Dixon. I believed in telling the future. But, there is a difference in a psychic,
and a Christian being given a Word by the Lord Jesus. I believe anyone
sensitive to the spiritual world can go either way. I implore anyone who think
this is just foolishness to test the spirits. If anyone does not feel free, don't
give up. Jesus is greater in us than he that is in this world.
Whatever you do do not try to contact the dead. It is against God and it will
open doors you don't want to go through. If anyone needs help in being
delivered, ask for prayer ~ We all have something we need help from our
brothers and sisters in ~ Heaven awaits us. ! Blessed be the Lord.

I think it all depends on whether watching a specific show will lead you into thoughts that do not glorify God. And if there is a conviction, which is often indicated by asking the question, then you have to make a choice: God or me? Ouch. I do think a bit of personal legalism is good too considering we know about our hearts and minds.

I've never watched Supernatural, but after reading the post above...I understand the reservations.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinions and I respect them. The Scriptures are pretty clear about associating with the dark side, especially practicing, teaching and luring other there. There is nothing anything wrong studying, listening or watching the dark side for knowledge since many in the religious circles do so in order to understand what they are up against. Example: Practicing & performing an exorcism. Since I didn't entertain you what I did to make me stronger, you are PREJUDGING me without the facts. I never practice, taught or lure anyone to the dark side. You may want to read Matthew 7:1-5, about "judging" people.

Thanks,I understand what your trying to say & I know you were trying to be helpful. But be careful about telling people they have a "heart of sin" as a mature christian I know I'm right with God. But some people may take offence to it.

Im sorry, im not sure how you came to the conclusion about me telling people they have a "heart of sin" What part of what I said made you think that? Because I surely wasnt trying to say that. I asking because id like to be able to perhaps correct how I say things.

I guess in a nutshell what im trying to say is that its most important to learn how to pray and find out from God these things personally for yourself because thats where the best transformation is :) But if someone says that they're struggling to know right from wrong in a certain issue then I would give them advice from my own experience.

Is what you said..I understand that you weren't being judgemental,it's just the wording could have been a bit better. I say this because I know a lot of people who get offended with things like that. But you made some good points :) It's true I need to ask God for myself what I should be watching, because what effects me might not effect somebody else the same way..

Please understand when one has gone through what I did, it is not easy to
get demons to leave a person alone. They lure us in with fascination. That
is the easy part. Then like anything else it goes to just a little more.
This is what happened to me. I should not have judged you by misreading
what you were trying to do to help him. I thought you were condoning
his watching shows re: those who contact the dead, or the vampire movies.
These things are so evil.... I simply lost my common sense momentarily.
Thanks. J~K~2

Ummm...I've posted on threads here that I shouldn't have allowed my mind to even entertain. Actually, I'll just share for whatever it is worth. Last year I had heard buzz from friends about the show The Walking Dead. My pastor even referenced it two weeks in a row, so I figured I'd check it out. Yeah...I think I ripped through the first two seasons in like 3 days (i have summers off) and it was like 3am and an episode came on titled "Lesser Angels" and I was just like, "What are you doing?" Kids were going to be up in 4 hours and I'm about to watch my fifth episode in a row. In that moment, Walking Dead got buried. For me it comes to difficulty managing moderation...and once I get something in my mind....Lord help me

We do know as Christians what not to watch that would
offend the Holy Spirit. A new Christian has need of learning.
I would not put a new Christian seeking the truth of Gods
Word down for watching something they believe is innocent.
I know how I was for about 4 or 5 years before I discovered
all the paranormal I was fascinated with was against God.
I didn't even know there was scripture for it.

So in no way would I elevate myself and think I am better
than the one who is struggling to please Christ. I just pray
for the deception satan has put out there for everyone to
be caught in a snare or trap..... we can learn from each
others experiences. It appears I am the only one who has
had to be delivered from paranormal ocultic activity.

Praise God He did let me know how closely I was walking
on the dark side as I tried to walk on the LIGHT side of Christ.
Bless His name. J~K~2

Even during my 8 year of not walking with the Lord, I found myself
watching Sylvia Brown and the other guy who was popular re: contacting
dead. I knew better... I was very mature in the Word, I was rebellious,
and yet drawn to watching it. Then, finally the Lord gave me a swift
kick in the rear and then read me the riot act..... Okay, so that was not
how He did it, CONVICTION people ... CONVICTION... So, many things
we as Christians know not to do, we do, then we have to be shaken a
little and realize "I have sinned against my Lord Jesus Christ. ~ J~K~2

LOL!! No need to be apologetic because it not that serious of an issue with me. But I do thank you for it. I don't even like to watch cop shows because they show too much blood and graphic images. I pretty much stay away from these vampires, zombies and etc because I am not comfortable with them and no christian should be comfortable watching those bloodthirsty movies. Oh yes !!! I truly understand where you are coming from when it comes to the evil that is lurking out there. I have been very fortunate to avoid such encounters because of my knowledge from reading and listening to others. For example: A co-worker bought a computer from a woman in the neighborhood, and he turned it on and was fascinated with what he saw and I was shocked. The woman was a witch practicing santamaria (witchcraft/women or voodoo/men). When I told my co-worker what it was, he got very scared. I told him to return the computer and get his money back. I can tell you many stories like this, going back to the age of 16.
