Long ago at a work place, we had a customer called Hugh Boyle
Only another member of staff kept on spelling his name Huge Boil, she
did not know how to spell Hugh and auto correct kept changing his surname!

He rang up one day and had a massive rant at her shouting "I am not a huge boil,
my name is Hugh Boyle."

The rest of us thought it was hilarious :D

Once my friend went to China and there was a Chinese guy asking her to walk faster and he said "let's go, let's go!"

When I first started chatting, and people would ask "how are you" I would reply with "I am good thanks". My typosis is bad bad BAD!! I started typoing "I am good" to read "I am God". People started thinking I had a God complex or something. I was even banned (temporarily until I explained) from a couple places who thought was a troll. I am the typo queen! I try to never say "I am good" anymore, and I have to be very careful typing works like "duck" because the 'D key' and the 'F key' are so close well I tend to type wordy dirds. I am horrible with typo cursing at people!!

However, as a professional writer, to keep my own editing skills sharp, I am secretly correcting (not condemning) everyone's spelling and grammar in my head as I read things....even my own. :p

I proofread friend's rough drafts — and sometimes even 'finished' books. It helps me.

i was wheezing i was laughing so much grabs inhaler kooh kish (sound effects) i recently i wont say said to someone apologising well im glad youre angry and i was like no no no noo! and retyped Im glad youre NOT angry hahah ....

It truly does "help" keep me "sharp".....well as sharp as the dullest tack in the box, anyways. LOL (I had to correct the word "sharp" because I typed "shart" the first time.)

voice recognition software is even worse.... I had an engineer named Yogish , pronounce yo-geesh, and I voice texted a coworker to tell him that Yogish wanted to talk to him.... before I hit "send" I looked at it, and it said "Yo bi*ch wants to talk to you"..... after I stopped rolling on the floor, I corrected it and hit "send"...

The mis-spoken word that " drives me crazy" is the word picture

many say pitcher and it should be pronounced pick- ture.

I fully agree with you. My native language is Romanian, but I understand that learning my language could be more difficult for foreigners than English. I think it's because English has been transformed so hard to be convenient for everyone. Also, you have so many learning materials for this language. For example, this site https://englishlinx.com/pronouns/ with materials for kids and teenagers. I don't even mention online translators that are based on the English language. I love Romanian, but I like the opportunity to speak with other guys using the common language.

I learned how to teach english to second langauge speakers, but my own grammar was far worse than the second langauge speakers. Because grammar isnt even taught to native english speakers.

And have you seen how thick the English dictionaries can be?

Plus there are so many different ways to pronounce words and nobody can agree on one.

even american english is vastly different from british english and uses different words. The americans dont get irony and the brits dont get emojis.

My own grammar has slipped quite a lot over the decades but back in the day when I was top of my class I spotted the enormous lack of grammar knowledge of the English.
One evidence of this was an article on Michael Cain. After having attended a university the commentasry about the success of his English grammar was not lauding his knowledge of the language, not at all. The main comment was that he came out of his formal educatio with a suitable accent.

Having said this, there is nothing I admire more than the incredible talent of UK thespians, and I do include the nations of the UK, and Ireland.

UK people also have lessons on elocution to speak BBC english

if you watch the movie My Fair Lady, Audrey Hepburn had to learn how to speak Cockney and then speak 'proper english'
Ironically Audrey was not even English, she was Belgian. She spoke Dutch. English was her second language

In the mid las century an accent was created for advertising in the US and in the UK. It is called the mid-Atlantic accent. Well understood, it is non-descript but quite a good idea.

The closest accent I have heard from England thaqt is much like the mid-Atlantic is the accent of many in the Midlands, not all mind you.

I remember fondly when Eliza Doolittle was learning her proper accent, with the rain in Spain mainly on th eplain.
As for her accent in English, she always put me to shame. What a stunning woman.

Methinks English is the most difficult language in the world. I study English as a foreign language. I try to communicate with native speakers online because it is the best way to learn. But I still make many mistakes, and I can't draw the difference between British and American. In my mind, both versions of the language are mixed up. In addition to English, I am also learning Portuguese. I bought just one dictionary with which I learn it https://www.amazon.com/Portuguese-Frequency-Dictionary-Vocabulary-Dictionaries/dp/9492637618/. My progress is encouraging. I found Portuguese easier than English. There are too many nuances in English.

A large number of the commenters on this site have horrible English skills, and I'm betting some of them are native-english speakers. A result, IMO, of the decline of our educational system and all of the lazy abbreviating that comes with texting.
