I have many fond memories as a child. My family was large, and my dad had even more brothers and sisters that I did. My mom also had 3 brothers, and one sister. We had lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins, with family outings, picnics, get-togethers, etc. I do not remember it bothering me that most of my clothes were hand me downs, as it did some of my other sisters, the younger ones especially. One sister was aware of things like whether or not it was butter on the table, or margarine, real milk, or powdered milk, tang or real orange juice. I was either oblivious to stuff like that haha, or those things did not matter to me :) Probably a little of both ;)

God made you a survivor as it were then ... I was like that - I never noticed we had no money despite the fact we had no money - LOL.

My dad was a real entrepreneur. With a wife and eleven children to support, he was motivated :D He worked full time, plus always had things going on the side. He was raised a farm boy, and continued in that vein, not farming per se, but buying produce wholesale from farmers, and then competing with those same farmers at the farmer's markets to sell to the public. I volunteered as an eight-year old to go and work with him on Saturdays so I could escape women's work. My mother did not want to let me go, but my dad was appreciative of the offer of extra help, and he won :) I worked weekends with him and my brothers for ten years (I moved away from home shortly after I turned 18) :)

I love your story - I see God working all thru it in your life to make you who you are! That's a good thing too by the way. You ought to write an autobiography too. I would read it...and pay for it even.

Thank you, Dan. I forget a lot of things ;) One of my favorite memories of my dad from when I was a child, is at one of those farmer's markets. He always had a thermos of coffee or tea, and as the thermos top that acted as a cup was left to sit for periods of time in between him drinking it, the beverage would accumulate fruit flies floating in it  I noticed this one time just as he was raising the cup to his lips, and I cried out, "Daddy, look out for the bugs!!!" My father momentarily paused, and replied, "Let the bugs look out for themselves." And he drank his tea :giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

Even your linguistic technique was superb - That was funny despite being vividly picturesque. Thank you Magenta - I've enjoyed our fellowship this evening.

You should have seen the look on his face. My dad was a character :D Of course, the idea of ingesting bugs was abhorrent to a little girl LOL but to my dad, a few fruit flies were nothing to balk at or prevent him from enjoying his drink. Thank you for listening, Dan :)

It is my pleasure!

I ate a bug thru a straw once - it was at a restaurant with friends and we were there to buy some pie and beverages. I had asked for a Diet Coke and they served it in an old jar cup they use when serving their beverages as a part of their decor theme of 'old country' . As I had my Diet Coke using a straw I remember the straw was a large diameter version, and "sip- slurp-thump", I crunched what tasted almost sweet all of a sudden. I hadn't noticed but it was a spider. I was so appalled and embarrassed I didn't even say anything to anyone at the table. I ran to the restroom and exited the remains from my coveted orface, yet all the while knowing I had ingested some of the body remains beyond retrieval. I still shriek at the notion of it today. That was when I was a teenager. But it still feels like yesterday. Yikes!

Ewwww, that would make me want to vomit LOL. I think I could handle a fruit fly or two, but a spider? I feel bad but I encouraged my cat to eat a spider once, and she did not like it, though she normally would go after bugs with a vengeance ;) Many of them are venomous :p I cannot imagine that tasting sweet
