John like all people before Jesus' death and reserection. He did not go straight to heaven at death.
Only the believers after the death of Jesus had that experience. The first may have been the criminal hanging with Jesus on the cross. That is why he is referred to as least.

Under law they were purifying the outward man but under grace the spirit of men was made pure and only GOD can do this.
among men John the Baptist was the greatest but for anyone to make It Into heaven the person has to be born again of INCORRUPTIBLE seed.

John was greatest in the Kingdom, however he who came later--> "JESUS" is greater than John......

I think John and Levite who prepared the way for Christ to begin his earthly ministry by baptizing the Son of man from the tribe of Judah so that he to could be an officiator and could also baptize, is the greatest. No other person was given that privilege of coming in the spirit of Elijah, the power of the Holy Spirit. (This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased)as a introduction to the three year ministry. He then was sent by the father in the wilderness to be tempted as part of the ministry

its not very likely John had those doubts. John was the one that baptized Jesus and heard the Most High call out from the heavens telling them exactly who Jesus was. people like John would never 2nd guess the Almighty not to mention the Lord was Johns life, he didnt have a wife, family, job, house, car, etc, living for the Lord was all he did. he lived in the wilderness surviving on grasshoppers and eating wild honey so i cant see how a little jail time would have overwhelmed this guy.
what John said in prison IMO had nothing to do with Jesus not being the Christ but had to do with a 2nd messiah that some believed would come with Jesus. it was an idea of the Essenes which many believed John was a member of if not their leader. Jesus answers John with a list of signs concerning the blind, lame, lepers, deaf, dead and poor. many think this is a reference to Isiah passages that mention poor, blind and deaf, however in the Essene theology writing concerning the Messiah they mention blind, lame, lepers, dead and poor with part of the scroll missing which more than likely would have mentioned the deaf which would have synced ever sign with exactly what Jesus told John. these are also the ones that called themselves a new covenant community. where have i heard that before . .

False/False/False
No one to date has done to heaven to date.

Daniel 12:1-3 New Living Translation (NLT)
The Time of the End
12 “At that time Michael, the archangel[a] who stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued. 2 Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace. 3 Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.

Is that not what I said?
