Seems to me that those who don't hold a "tongues today" view have short life span here on CC. Is this the norm ?
not at all truth be known those who are banned are done so because of what they say abou8t other people . Not where they stand on a topic. or biblical position .
it's the immaturity , insults and name calling.
just go back and look at those who have done such. and Look at who was the first ones from when then thread started to make insults it's all right there.

as someone who has been here for some time ( I had another ID prior to this one so actually here longer than it may seem) I can attest that what you say above is just another jab at those who have a different experience than you do

ask Roger...he has been here longer than I have and he has consistently taken an opposing view on tongues

he and I agree on a good number of things but not this issue

but he has probably had more to say against tongues than ANYONE in this forum

I would say people get banned because of their OVERALL demeanor and after being warned to change said behavior. maybe other things too

think about it
Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it. The mods are overall pretty fair. If you violate the rules they will certainly have a little talk with you but as long as you are not against Christ or the bible or have a religious agenda you are invited to participate on the forums.

At the end of the day the mods are people too. They catch a lot of flack and generally do not allow their personal opinions to sway their judgments.

yes but you cannot make God conform to a methodolgy when the word of God gives
God is always true to His nature. Its not about methodology but the person of God. The Holy Spirit always ministers from the word of God. The Holy Spirit does not do things of His own but what He receives from God.

yes HE does but the Bible does not give every situation . remember this was written to a church over 2000 years ago culture is not the same the application very well is not the same either. So the Plum Line is

the following :

does the use of the gift bring glory to God? Edify? Comfort? Line up with the word of God?

If they answer is yes amen. Your church nor mine does everything as the earlier Church did . SO to have God Boxed God is always true to HIS Natual however, His relationship with man has changed yet again when Christ died, buried, and rose again. The Context Of the Holy Spirit has Changed has it not> Yesd just as God said HE would and Just as Jesus said HE would in John 14 and 16. The Holy Spirit is GOD I think many for get that HE is the third Person of the Godhead. and WE should be more reverant when speaking of HIS Gifts .

we cannot Box God HE has not changed in HIS natural but HE is able to do a new thing and to still be all knowing, all preasent , all powerful, all holy God . and still do things for man and women each day.

Well that's a pretty well worn old saw. I would reverse the argument and state that making the Holy Spirit seem more like an entertainer than the third person of the Godhead is placing God into a box. Not your church nor mine would think such a thing. LOL

Now scripture is explicit that the Holy Spirit speaks of those things He has received from the Father. John 16:12-16 words from Jesus regarding the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Men are not all that different even though 2000 years have passed. The plumb line is still the word of God. Scripture changes cultures not cultures changing scripture.

Nope, it is not unfruitful. Yep, God gave us his word to we would be able to know him. It is written: Speaking in tongues - edifies the individual (1 Cor. 14:4) and in a group, when interpreted, it edifies the church (1 Cor. 5b). The purpose of language is communication - It is written: When one speaks in tongues, he is speaking to God (1 Cor. 14:2), when one speaks in tongues and interprets - he is communicating to the church and therefore speaking words via the gift of holy spirit to edify the church (1 Cor. 5b). The Holy Spirit (God) gave us the gift of holy spirit to teach us, to guide us, to comfort us (John 16).

No need for mysterious sounds as secret words. Words have significate meaning attached to them, even the metaphors have the spiritual unseen meaning attached. If God would hide the meaning he who give us a parable. Not a grunt or a noise without meaning like children banging kettles with a wood spoon .

There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.1 Corintihain14.

We must be careful on "how" we hear God. The verse is not declaring that it is a blessing to edify oneself a source of pride. Or as some say self-appraisal conforming something outwardly (good job)

Its God who prophecies' bringing His word in many languages other than Hebrews alone. God edifying, glorying his own self. A God whose name is Jealous. He speaks prophecy to men as the comforting word of the Holy Spirit

But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification
(of God the speaker the one doing the work ) , and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; (not a blesssing) but he that prophesieth (speaking the word of God )edifieth the church.(the blessing)1 Corinthians 14: Two or three not one , and I will be in the presence

He that speaks in a language unknow to others edifieth himself (not a blessing) But he that prophecies( brining the word of God where two can understand each other) edifies the church .The church where two or three are gather together under the prophecy of God word . Not where one gathered together . All un seen spiritual gift are two fold . Not by the will of man but men that God moved according to the good pleasure of His will that works in men to both will and perform His good pleasure

There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. Therefore if I (Paul) know not the meaning (of the strangers voice), I (Paul) shall be unto him (the stranger) that speaketh a barbarian, and he (the stranger )that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me (.Paul)1 Corinthians 14:10-11

Today they have real time devices that allow to different language to be spoken and by the device each man hears what the other is saying in their own language. Neither are barbarians to the other. In that way Paul on his mission of visiting many other nations was not crippled but was successful at getting the gospel out.

the conterxt of 1cor 13 8-11 has nothing to do with new revelations. it has to do with how we need the Holy Spirit and use the gifts until we see HIM face to face and we shall be fully known . That has not happen, No one can fully know all the word of God.
New revelations are prophecy .

God word (prophecy is the gift) what we had in apart up until the last new revelation to John today we have the whole or perfect (no more) .

No new revelations as prophecy God's interpretation to us .And yes we do need the gift (God word)

Those who look to add to it with their own private revelation or private prophecy seem to end up in another place. I would suggest why go above that which is written and end up with the likeness below ? What's the hope? 15 seconds of fame?

yes this is true but with man it is not that simple , So we follow the Leading of the Holy with the Word of God. The issue is not what the Holy Spirit is doing the issue is what people are doing and say it is the Spirit of God.

You need to separate your bias of foolishness that you see on TV and where ever else you get the term "entertainer " in context to the Holy Spirit and deal with what 1cor 12, 13, and 14 says. BUT you do not agree that the gifts of the Holy are for today. So really you and i are done too . it never ceases to a maze me how speaking so loosely of the Holy Spirit is so easy to do with you and others.

Ok

I will show you

after you and i were having what was a good conversation you responded to my comment with this :

It's not that you won't prove your claims, its that you can't prove your claims and this is the testimony that condemns your claims as bogus.

Just so you know that is rude if you did not know:

Do not hide behind the "no one has to prove anything to you" excuse. Jesus proved His claims with physical evidence when asked, now you do the same.

that is a confrontational I already told you I would not perform gifts of the Holy Spirit just to prove gift.

Testimony offered as proof of claims of on-going physcial events is both childish and disingenuous.

Label my words as insults if you wish but the truth is not on your side.

So I did label them as an insult as you suggested .

Now that you have your proof . thank you and good bye .

I guess that makes some kind of sense to you but God still hasn't changed. His word has not changed and His Holy Spirit has not changed. Man is changeable but God is not.

The same Holy Spirit in Acts is the same Holy Spirit in Corinthians, correct? Same Holy Spirit at Pentecost as the Holy Spirit today.

God is still God. I'm still wo

Acts was the initial outpouring of the Holy Spirit and I imagine there needed to be a degree of harmony and order in the church?

Yes. Also all the spiritual gifts were given for the edification of others and to be exercised in an orderly manner. But not all would have any particular gift (say tongues), nor all of the gifts in one person (Paul being exceptional with many gifts). And a time would come when some spiritual gifts would cease (prophecy, supernatural knowledge, and tongues as well as the sign gifts), while others would not.

At the same time, Paul calls agape love the greatest gift, and since Christ dwells within every believer, agape love (charity) can be expressed by every believer.

If this is your "proof" then you have truly abused your position. There is nothing in my words that is immature, insulting or name calling. None of these comments were directed at anyone but you and nothing in them is offensive. There are a number of statements in this thread by others that are worse then these yet you have chosen to attempt to bully me into silence because I have exposed your weak defense.

You are a bully with a position, nothing more.

There is nothing wrong with me labeling your comments "childish and disingenuous".
There is nothing wrong with me calling out your claims as false and bogus.
There is nothing wrong with me telling you that the truth is not on your side.
No one asked you to "perform", just to provide evidence of what you have already claimed.

You are quick to claim a physical supernatural ability/gift but when asked to produce some evidence will instead fake outrage at the suggestion. You may be fooling those who support this theology but you are not fooling me.

You are bullying me because these words were directed at you.

I too can attest to something. You speaking gibberish is not biblical tongues. You and others like you present the wondrous works of the Holy Spirit to the world as nothing more than a clown show. And contrary to what some say here, it will be answered for.

The old saw is your accusation that I'm placing God or the Holy Spirit in a box.

The word of God clearly states that the Holy Spirit does not speak of his own but that which He has received from the Father. You give the impression that the Holy Spirit can go out and freelance by doing whatever He wants. God Himself has stated that He will not transgress His word. So God for the sake of man will not operate outside of what He has declared in His word. Jesus never transgressed the word of God. Jesus is declared to be the word made flesh dwelling among us.

God has unlimited power and authority but He has attributes that cannot be changed.

For clarity the entertainment is a reference to how some churches conduct their "worship" services. Not yours of course but some who are farther our on the limb. LOL

The context of 1 Cor 12-14 must be in harmony with Acts and the many appearances of tongues when new believers spontaneously spoke with tongues. Tongues that were interpreted in the ears of the hearers. It is very likely that the original purpose of tongues has been fulfilled and they now await the last part of Joel 2 to be fulfilled at the beginning of the great tribulation.
