Do you think some of the OT is still binding?
Sure....the law is for the lawless and condemns all who are not found in Christ, and....there are numerous prophecies concerning the end of the age that are yet fulfilled......

Do you think some of the OT is still binding?
Hi Besor, in what sense to you mean "binding"?

*(If you mean the "binding" in the sense that we must keep the OT laws (be they ceremonial or moral) to be saved (rather than choosing to obey them because we are already saved), then no, the OT is not binding upon our hearts/consciences in that sense)

Thanks!

~Deut

..........5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy.

2 Tim, 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

The OT was the only bible the early church had. The righteousness parts are in effect. Temple holiness is out.

Do you think some of the OT is still binding?
Sure. Read the Ten Commandments, and view the other four commandments from the Old Covenant given in Acts 15.

"binding" ?

A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son belongs to it forever,
so if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Every person who has been or who will be born into the world, and who is without faith in Jesus, will be judged at the great white throne judgment by the standard contained within the OT law.
Gal 3:23-25 "But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith that should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was out schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

All of the Old Testament, the Books, is binding but it is not according to the teaching of men, no, rather according to the teaching of Jesus Christ.........it takes a while of honest study in prayer and meditation, but it comes to us all.

"binding" ? (John 8:35-36)
You took those verses out of context: Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

This says that Christ sets us free from bondage to sin. But in order to be righteous (free from bondage to sin) we must live by the Law of Christ, which is in fact the Ten Commandments in operation through love.

I believe continuing is sin may be said to be ignoring the Gospel and choosing evil over it.

You and I are not perfect but that work began in us when we came to Jesus Christ is an on-going work performed by God, Himself, no other. We will never be perfect in this age, that is almost apromise, and it is perfectly true, but when we believe Jesus Christ and do our best not to sin, that is, break God's law, we are seen as being innocent, the guilt of our transgression is no longer imputed against us.

How else could it be for mere flesh? Jesus teaches us this and He is propitiation for sin.

We still need the old testament, but we are no longer under Moses by which we obey God's laws physically, we are under Christ by which we obey those same laws of God spiritually. So no, we are not going to, for example, physically take adulterers outside the city and stone them to death.

The OT contains the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is in the law and teh Prophets.

The OT will never be abolished at any level. Jesus Christ has completed it, fulfilled it.

Now, due to the revelation of the Teaching of Jesus Christ we may read teh law andunderstand just what He has fulfilled, and how it is yet being fulfilled.

We understand by Christ's teaching that the law is not dead or abolished, and it is yet to be obeyed as best possible given each of us by the grace and mercy of His salvation. He is the perfect One for each of us, and to say we do not sin is saying He is lying about the law still being in effect, according to His teaching.

Anyone who claimes to believe Jesus Christ yet finsds study of the law and adherance to it as it is being fulfilled still has blinders on, that is the veil of Moses.

We are free indeed of the curse of the law, and we are free of the guilt of our breaking it, but we are not to live in sin as a way of life. We reject all manner of sin while striving to be like Jesus Christ our Salvation,n but we must believe Him,.

The best litmus test is if a person believes Him about the law or goes to all extremes to say it is abashed, that latter is a lie, and not graced by the truth of the Salvation of Jesus Christ, His Word.

This says that Christ sets us free from bondage to sin.
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the Law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

But in order to be righteous (free from bondage to sin) we must live by the Law of Christ, which is in fact the Ten Commandments in operation through love.
Romans 5-8 does not say we have been set free by keeping the 10 commandments. it says we have been set free by being baptized into Christ's death, dying with Him. and this is by grace through faith, not through human will, work, desire or exertion.
Philippians 3 says righteousness is through faith, not of ourselves, not through keeping Law.

Galatians 2 says if righteousness could have come through the Law -- including through keeping the 10 commandments, which are only one portion of the entire Law -- then Christ died for nothing.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
(Galatians 5:6)
But the Law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.”
(Galatians 3:12)

James 2:8 calls to love ones neighbor literally "the law of our King" -- not the 10 commandments.
don't hold any doctrine which makes Christ's death meaningless and useless.

They also had the teachings of the apostles, which is what we have. They just didn't have it in writing for a while.
