I have become agnostic for now, NOT because I have any issue with the lessons that the Bible teaches, or have anything else against the religion. This is just me taking a step back for the time being, mostly due to me recently having a bit of an epiphany that there are infinite possibilities out there. Christianity, while it DOES definitely have some things right, is only one of these endless possible truths out there, whether I liked it or not.

HOWEVER, and I feel that this is important to add, I still have an open mind about this. I might return to Christianity...if I feel that it is ACTUALLY the right path. However, this is for me alone to find out, so please don’t dump your bible quotes or lectures of hell on me. This won’t help your case, as I won’t respond to those.
Hi WineRose:
Being an agnostic means that you are not sure whether or not there is a God. You say you believe in God, so you are not an agnostic. You speak of Christianity and questioning it? If I have this correct, then please know that there are many Christian sects out there with differing views. You might want to look into that. There are conservative views and more "liberal" views on the Bible and on God.
Personally, I think Jesus IS the right path. All I have to do is read what He wrote, said, and most importantly .. what He did during his lifetime ... to know that that is what makes me believe. I wont quote the Bible but I willl (very lightly) recommend you read the four Gospels, the Sermon on the Mount ... this is, for me, the heart and soul of our beliefs.

G'Day Winerose not sure if we have crossed paths before, but anyway welcome back to CC and i hope you find some though provoking thoughts from the Christians here along with the moving of the Holy Spirit to draw you into a solid position in your beliefs..

Oh and posting scripture is all a part of talking about Christianity.. People should back up what they say with scripture if they believe.. Otherwise it is just people giving random thoughts that may or may not be Christian.. If a Seeker comes onto a Christian forum they want to know they are getting Christianity.. Not some human based philosophy masquerading as Christianity..

So don't get down on Christians posting Bible verses.. As long as they mix it up with their own words of explanation..
I know that bible quotes aren't inherently bad on their own. When I said what I said about them, I had mainly the aggressive bible thumpers in mind.

Yeah, now that I think about it, the word 'agnostic' wasn't really the best to describe my situation.

I think 'deist' would be a better word choice.

I have never heard of a deist. There are 3 religions that believe in ONE God (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). If you believe in ONE God, then you are on of these three religions. Further, IF you believe Jesus is the Son of God, you are a Christian.

The question is WHAT EXACTLY are you questioning?
You religion or a particular doctrine of your Christian sect?. If the latter, that one is easier to fix. We all question some thing at some tiime or there would be no arguments or discusssion sites such as this.

Ever heard of actually opening your bible and reading it to find out who HE is??
Sorry, but I'm trying to avoid the Bible for solid proof and answers. Reading the more philosphical parts just makes my head spin, and I don't have that much time on my hands to read it all.

A deist believes that the God of the Bible created the world as we know it and then basically walked away. They reject the miraculous, typically label Jesus as "a good moral teacher" but reject His divinity.

There are 3 religions that believe in ONE God (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). If you believe in ONE God, then you are on of these three religions.

An agnostic believes that there is a "higher power" but that there isn't enough evidence (at least they don't possess it) to know who/what that higher power is so just believing that there is only one God doesn't by default place them into one of the "big three".

Further, IF you believe Jesus is the Son of God, you are a Christian.

If your reading of scripture has led you to believe that a mere intellectual assent to Christ's divinity makes you a Christian then you must have torn a lot of pages out of your Bible. Even Satan and his demons have an intellectual assent to Christ's divinity.

The bible is the only place where you're going to find "solid proof and answers." You don't need to read it ALL. I mainly read the books where Jesus speaks.

Islam believes in Mohammad, not God.

Howdy WineRose.

Realizing you don't know what you believe can be a very good thing. Many Christians only believe Christianity because that is what they grew up believing, because their parents or Pastor or Sunday school teacher told them so. This is a very shaky foundation for what you believe, and the sooner people realize it, the sooner they can start figuring out what they really believe and why they believe it. In fact this is an essential step toward figuring out why you believe what you believe.

Just make sure you don't leave it at not being sure what you believe. Some people take the first step and then get lazy and spend the rest of their lives not being sure what they believe. Make certain you start investigating your beliefs and figuring out what you believe, and more importantly why you believe it.

Muslims actually believe in the old testament, but unlike Jews, they believe the words of the prophet Mohammed who came 500 years after Christ and who supposedly had the Q'uran dictated to him by the angel Gabriel (the same angel who came to Mary and told her she was with child). They view Jesus as a prophet, but not the son of God.
