They have professional cuddlers.
Why do I get the idea that cuddling for profit isn't exactly what God had in mind, lol.

This also ventures into the other debate about physical contact--how much, and in what manner, is enough to be beneficial--and how much, and in what matter, will cause people to slide into what the Bible would say is immorality?

I think that’ll be my business idea😊.

Jenny’s a Buck a Hug Service❤️

❤️😊❤️😊
I've heard that hugs from Southerners are quite superior.

If I could claim to be Southern, I would charge at least a dollar fiddy.

But I've got people who will give testimonial that I give the best hugs. So how much can I charge for my premium hugs as opposed to just other people's normal hugs?

On another note, this thread has made me realize that even though I don't get as many hugs as I'd like. I'm better off than a lot of singles by being able to expect hugs at least once a week (and my brother works at my office so if I'm ever desperately in need of a hug I can get one).

Hey Everyone,

A recent conversation had me thinking about how often single people give or receive any kind of physical affection. I think most everyone has read articles in which it's been documented that some babies who were given life necessities but no physical affection or care have perished, and I often wonder what kind of effect a lack of contact has on people as adults.

Why is it assumed that a lack of affection is just a natural occurrence as people get older?

Of course, as Christians, sexual contact is not an option for us singles until we get married, but what about more innocent things such as holding someone's hand (a friend or relative), a warm (but not overly long or suspiciously creepy) hug, and an affectionate kiss on the cheek (such as between friends or relatives)?

I admit to being a fairly affectionate person, and lack of an outlet for even the most innocent forms of affection has me feeling at a loss.

I consider myself very fortunate to have grown up in a family in which, even though I'm an adult, my parents smother me with hugs and/or verbal affirmations, and I can feel the perk in my soul just from being around that exchange for even just a few moments. The only hugs I receive these days are from my parents, but unfortunately, I don't get to see them nearly as much as I would like.

What about the rest of you? If you'll give me a few moments, I'm going to create an anonymous, multiple-choice poll that will reflect this threads original question.

However, some of the topics that won't be adequately covered by the poll are:

* Who do you exchange these affections with? (Parents, children, church members, etc.)

* Perhaps you don't feel comfortable with any kind of affection at all? Why? (If you would feel comfortable sharing.) And if you're not comfortable with affection, what kind of effect do you think that will have on a future marriage?

* Who were your role models in showing affection, and do you strive to be more or less like them? (For example, if you had parents who hugged you often, do you aspire to be like them? Or if you had parents who never hugged you or each other in front of others, do you plan to be the same way in your own marriage and family?)

Remember, the poll is anonymous, so no one can see your answers, as well as multiple choice, so feel free to choose as many as you feel apply.

I am hoping, however, that the poll will not be seen as a substitute for an actual discussion and am hoping that people will feel free to share their thoughts, opinions, and experiences.

Married people are welcome to answer as well--was it liberating or challenging to to from being single, to being around someone--and trying to show them affection, all the time?

We singles appreciate our married friends here who teach us the realities of married life without talking down to us. :)

I'll be looking forward to your answers. :)

I give and receive hugs often. Monday through Friday, several times a day. Like, one every 5 minutes or so. (I work in child care :) ).
The neat thing is when I get to hug the parents. One of them will come in frustrate, or hurting...even happy, and after we chat I often give them a hug. ( I always ask first unless I know they'll be ok with it). It creates a really wonderful bond between us that somehow impacts the way they feel leaving their child in our care. (Some of them carry alot of guilt that they need childcare and can't spend the time they want to with their children).
Besides my family, I also share hugs with my church family. (I've also been known to hug people I've chatted with briefly if I feel the Lord leading me to).
I can't say I've had noteable role models as far as showing affection. I can't even recall a time when my mom and dad hugged. I'm sure my Mom hugged me alot...but I have childhood amnesia, so I don't remember much from my childhood.
I'm an affectionate gal, so I'm hoping if/ when I get married again it will be full of all kinds of lovin'! Most definately lots of hugs!

I receive hugs from my teddy bears!

Being single I don’t give or receive many hugs to/from people.

On the odd occasion someone in church might suddenly try to smother me
in a big bear hug, while I fighting for breath, try to wrestle myself free. I
hate hugs like that where you feel as if you have been jumped on!

This morning, a dispatcher massaged my scalp. It was as good as a hug.

I totally here you, Miri.

I currently have 2 stuffed friends I rotate between and when I'm especially stressed... The poor little guys get something that more closely resembles being suffocated rather than a hug.

Hopefully, this post won't be report to PETSA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Stuffed Animals), and no one will be coming after me.

The answer for me would be none of the above. I probably give & receive hugs 4 times a year. I feel it is an odd custom.
