So we still argue over the same old stuff that has been argued from the Ascension of Christ.
Works or faith? Simple enough if your faith don't cause works you have nothing. And if you have works but no faith your Works will be short-lived and won't mean anything one without the other is nothing. They must go hand and hand.
Predestined or freewill? Yes
Just because we can't wrap our degenerate minds around it don't make it not so. Jesus said, as many as the Father has given me will come. Both the ordinance of God and the act of free will or those who come.
Who is Jesus? Answered by the 1st chapter of the Gospel of John . these things are spelled out rather emphatically in the scriptures and there is no real controversy only failure of the human to understand.
I want to know what John was speaking of in his first letter the 5th chapter and I believe the 15th verse where he speaks of the sin unto death. What is the sin unto death? Is it manifested in such a way like ananias and Sapphira or they died immediately or is this more akin to Saul who God rejected as king and allowed him to continue in his folly unto death? Is this what Jesus spoke of when he warned of the Pharisees to not blaspheme the Holy Spirit? Were they already guilty and doomed? Why issue a warning at this time? Is it possible for a person to have committed a sin unto death and not know it? could they possibly continue going to church paying their tithes pray continue to fight against sin in their lives?

I can only speculate as to what the sin unto death is, and that being like Ananias and Sapphira who acted upon their faithlessness.
Like those who opposed and acted against Moses which led to their deaths.
In short I think it has to do with taking action in faithlessness.

Technically speaking the fight has been going on since day 8.......and.....

Cain offered works
------------------------seems both knew of God
Abel offered blood

We know the end of the above story....Abel makes the 11th chapter of FAITH and Cain makes the book of JUDE as a false teacher and a murderer!

Leave king Saul out of this.

John is addressing Christians, and the "sin unto death" is the sin which leads to premature physical death for a Christian.

Doing the things without repentance that folks around here insist that they should lose their salvation over. It can include the things you listed. My opinion (yes it is an opinion not a 'Thus saith the Lord", all the things that Paul listed under reprobation and walking in the flesh to excess.

In one sense I am committing a sin unto death with my table fork. It is one of the big areas of putting my body under subjection that I'm having no luck with despite my diabetes. Anyway, I'm not too worked up about it since my wife is waiting on the other side and I am in a right hurry to see her again.

So, you are saying if a person is worrying about if they have committed this sin, they are wrong. You say they would be struck down immediately, right?

The Holy Spirit deals with Christians regarding their sins. And they are not struck down immediately.
