Been an active participant here in the forums now for a few months and now I have a question.

Hey listen, this isn't me seated up on a another self righteous box, a moral high ground, ranting, lecturing, and complaining, playing a moderator or a mom.

First let me admit to grabbing popcorn when I come across a topic that seems to stir up some battles. Those are juicy ones, calling to pick a side. But It isn't just on those kinds of threads, I see it happen in all kinds of discussions. Bam and pow, and holy batman, kaplow, tossing divisive accusations and insinuations, then getting the like in response. Folks reading, they, sometimes me, jump in the ring; loyalty and chivalry are beautiful things.

I clearly admit that this fascinates me too, to the point that perhaps it is a sin. Listen, I'm just curious, if we never saw a calm discussion get out of hand, become heated and even offensive to some, would we like it?

Is part of this forum’s appeal found in the verbal discourse centered in conflict, or even attempts for conflict resolution? Do you think complete unity and harmony besides being completely unrealistic and unnatural for us, would it also be boring? Do we want a little drama (emphasize on the little, because a lot isn't entertaining, not for me, not in the least)? In our fallen world, we like watching and participating in opposition. We see it in sports and we see it everywhere. It seems to appeal to our flesh, but do you think it can be good? Even Adonai is at odds with the evil one. Our Abba could get it over with, squashing satan's existence; but He chooses to keep the opposition alive, calling for us to pick a side. Maybe this topic or question also offends. It certainly is not my intent. But if you have a moment...

Be honest, please, I am curious...

Put up my DUKES!!

If we took a topic...
then added every member here opinions of that topic
and took everything we read and bunched it all together
the TRUTH is in there somewhere!!

The battering actually makes all parties involved to recheck their own statement, but ALSO to now read everyone's scripture reference. There is a form of educating happening at this point. I myself have learned and now I view something's differently. It's a true blessing at my age to know I am still learning and growing in God. Without that, I might as well just be dead!!

"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 1:3).

Scripture encourages believers to stand, wearing the whole armor of God. That armor has it's defensive purposes, but it also includes a sword, which is the Word of God.

I consider that you have been reading here long enough to know that there are about 57 different opinions about salvation, keeping saved, being elected, not being elected, etc., ad nauseum.

It is required that we be good soldiers of Jesus Christ, the only way to heaven. Those that are trained in the Word must stand in the gap in order to protect the sheep and babes in Christ that often come here to understand their Bibles, but they are met with so many opinions that they are cast adrift in the storm.

It's nice when we can reason together as God instructs us, but those that hate the idea that there is only one way to God, or that there simply must be something that they need to do to earn salvation -- that they are usually the ones that get nasty.

Unfortunately, when a thread grows to 1,000 posts the reasoned discussion at the beginning has long deteriorated into a bloodbath.

Would I like Christianity to be wonderful peace of mind, happiness all the time? Of course, but at the same time we should not be willing to compromise on those absolute essentials of the faith, therefore fellowship is not something we seek with those that are teaching another Gospel.

I guess Paul kind of wrapped it up . . .

"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ" (Galatians 1:10).

I don't know about dukes, but I sure do miss my duchess!

Not really. It saddens me that we don't look for common ground but jump to fight instead.

However we are reminded there is two types of wisdom: the world and heavenly wisdom are vastly different. One causes fights. The other brings peace and unspeakable joy.

I can't count the times these debates have been the catalyst for more of my own study. I want a faith strong enough to examine and one able to grow, otherwise the childlike stance rooted in humility and teachable, is null. Thanks for your response. I too thoroughly appreciate the scripture references. The entirety of my faith requires harmony amongst all the verses.

If possible I avoid conflict but I will stand for the faith if attacked or questioned.

I always enjoy a spirited heated discussion although I rarely add anything of great value to the topic or derail at hand. As I have said before, some threads, especially those in the BDF are a high entertainment value. However, I don't believe that they should break down to the point of the name calling. Even then, that can be fun if it is good spirited and not mean spirited. I'm down with the popcorn reference too, sometimes it's enjoyable to just kick back and watch 'em have at it. The important thing is that once the smoke clears we still respect each other, or not as the case may be. It's all smoke and mirrors anyways and perhaps foolish to believe otherwise.

I now look at this forum being full of my family members (family in Christ). With that in mind, I understand we are never going to see things in a like manner. But like being in a big family, you don't rock the boat till we all get tossed overboard (hahahahaha). And keeping the family members in mind, I have always learned from my grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins, Aunts/Uncles, etc...so, I know I can learn here whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Have I ever been ticked off over these forums?

Nah, I have a natural way of ticking others off without me trying too hard, that I tend to just post my views and get attacked afterwards (hahahahahahahahahaha)!!!

Must know is 57 arbitrary, or have you counted? Lol. Well, your opinion was very nicely and thoroughly discussed. Thank you. I agree Paul did sum it up, nicely.

I understand how you feel, especially when the dialogue's motion digresses to the point of getting no where. I think for us to truly say all word is inspired, used for understanding, reproof and correction, and that we are to study to show ourselves approved, we must seek to find harmony amongst all the scriptures. I suppose we humans, lack the countenance and the ability, to find harmoniously accurate conclusions. The key is remaining humble and teachable, trusting in His ability to get us there, and ALWAYS remember not to LEAN on our OWN understanding.

Well that almost sounds like a superpower or a skill. I think it puts a high responsibility on your part to be careful in your delivery, eh? I appreciate your laughter.

The reason I get the responses I do is due to putting the burden of proof onto those I might find myself bartering. When I am wrong I tend to claim it and then move on. When some of the others are wrong, they will fill many pages of nonsense hoping you don't actually read to rebuttal them :)

Hmmmmm, very interesting. I wonder if that is true that folks spend much of their time to respond, hoping you won't use yours to read. Hmmmm, if so, that is another research project, hahaha.

It's like this in here:

"So, tell me what you think about this verse?"

...and the reaction when one answers:

or this reaction:

Only in the BDF!!!!!!!!! :D
