Tonight I am lonesome for Eden
Walking with you in the cool of the evening
But falling away is as easy as breathing
So I lie here empty and needing.

I hide in the most foolish places,
Weave leaves into screens to disguise my disgraces,
Seek comfort and kinship in other folk's faces.
I still can't escape where your grace is.

A twig cracks. You're searching behind me.
I cry as I laugh as I cry as you find me.
"I don't give up when you give up," you remind me.
This chase, your embrace, define me.

THE LAST BATTLE

The night is thick, and we are few
The fire is burning low and blue
Foes encircle, no wall for my back.
But you are behind me, brother.

Our circle is so small, the hate so real.
Sometimes, sister, you are all that keeps me
From beating truth into coinage
And crossing to the other side.

So we are the Last Battle. Our pyres are the torches
Flaring before His coming.
Let me die with his cry on my lips.
Swell it like a trumpet,
Lest the earth be silent
When He alights.

TWO TREES

You grew a garden, oh my sweet,
A river watered in the East.
It's filled with all good things to eat.
You are my favourite feast.

I will return, return, return.
But the angels kept me out
And their swords did crimson burn.

I broke your heart when I did taste it,
I saw evil and embraced it.
You still call but I can't face it.
So I run. Oh my God, what have I done?

I will return, return, return.
But the angels kept me out
And their swords did crimson burn.

Another tree, there hung your Seed.
I am covered in His skin
And the hand that sent me out
Now calls me home, calls me in.

You will redeem, redeem, redeem
And you will not shut me out
For your fruit did crimson bleed.

It’s so true that God never gives up on us. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us. Thanks for sharing your poems, Kotiro. God bless you!
