I think it interesting that the original Hebrew word used for both Joseph's coffin and the Ark (of the covenant) is aron.

Any thoughts?

I want to learn to aron one day and improve my laundry skills as I seemed to have a problem separating the whites. I already have the dishwashing routine down. Switching to Cascade Platinum levels the playing field for the times that you neglect to rinse the dirty dishes properly. I'm all set with taking out the trash too. Now, I take the time to tie a knot in the bag. Just gave my wife a hug too. It's starting to all come together in becoming a better husband. I guess that I'm proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks. My wife is a cat person though but I'm sure that you get my drift. That's another interesting word to ponder as there are still a few wrinkles to iron out.

I wonder

In the ark was the ten commands, Arrons rod that budded, and manna. Three representations of that which God had against the people (they proved the peoples sin)

Above the ark was the cherub, Once a year, blood was splatters on the covering of the ark, so when the cherub looked down. They could not see the proof of the people sin. It was “covered”

Ie, the things which prove we are sinners is placed into a coffin and burried, Because they are unable to condemn us anymore.

just thinking outloud..

I appreciate audible and written thoughts traveled, thank you.

So do you think Joseph was placed in the same kind of aron (coffin) because it was His son's names not His that would be counted? We know God loved Joseph, that he was a man of God, used by Him, in such wonderful ways. Pardon me, I too am thinking outloud, drawing conclusions based on a word "'aron" that perhaps I shouldn't.

lol, fair enough, I thought the word aron was only used with Joseph. The word coffin, though when looking at its definition should be just that. Pardon my going off into the wild blue yonder. Best not to travel too far into unknown territory, hahaha

Aron בָּאָרֹ֖ון (ba·'a·ro·vn) primarily means chest or ark*, and secondarily means coffin.

Strong's Concordance
aron: a chest, ark
Original Word: אָרוֹן
Part of Speech: Noun Masculine
Transliteration: aron
Phonetic Spelling: (aw-rone')

Definition: a chest, ark

It should be noted that each item placed is the Ark of the Covenant had miraculous life received directly from God. (a)The tablets (or tables) of stone had been written upon by the finger of God, and the Ten Commandments are eternal, (b) imperishable manna was another miraculous item which had rained down from Heaven, and could not spoil within the Ark, and (c) so was Aaron's rod which budded supernaturally to single out Aaron.

On top of that was the Mercy Seat with the golden cherubim, and this was the place where the glory of God (with the appearance of fire) would rest and communicate with Moses. And God is both Life and Light.

Therefore the application of *coffin* to the Ark would be a TOTAL MISREPRESENTATION, and the use of that word for Joseph's coffin is incidental. It could just as easily have been called a chest or sarcophagus, and chest would have been more appropriate.

Interesting OP so I thought about Noah.

Funny thing, for Noah's ark it is a different word than the one used in the OP. Genesis 6:14

The story of Moses ark uses the same word used for Noah's ark. Exodus 2:3

It is only used concerning the two arks aforementioned and nowhere else in Scripture.

The word is tebah for the above.

Yes, I just learned the ta-va or tebah for Noah's ark and the ark the infant moses was put in use the same word. Interesting, huh, because they were both put in water and saved by them. So so many nuggets found in the word.

In both cases a loving parent put the peole in the ark, and the people who were unable to save themselves (noah and family in the flood. And moses from being killed) were saved by an act of true love

Interestingly the Ark contains two elements that make it perfect or complete. One that seen and other that not seen.

Sort of like the unseen mutual work of the faith of the father and Son of man, Jesus working as a labor of their love Like in Isiah 53 two working together to bring us the peace of God that surpasses our understandings. One seen the other not seen

Jesus as that seen relying on the unseen father described as the spiritual food needed to perform the spiritual work. The kind of food of doing the will of another that the disciples knew not of at first.

Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, (unseen) cometh unto me ( Seen).John 6:43-45

Or I and the father are one

Two sides.or elements make up the Ark ..……... inside not seen, and outside seen, or two witnesses to one perfect work. We can see that work using Moses and Aaron one to represent walking faith the unseen the other walking by sigh as that see,

Exodus 4:13-16 King James Version (KJV)And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

There again as a picture of the Ark two witnesses working as one, that seen and, that unseen.

As Moses seen represent the letter of the law that kills. Aaron not seen a faith issue as a member of the priesthood of believers Those hold out the gospel in what is considered a foreign land as ambassadors for Christ not of here..

God knowing them beforehand of the rebellion which will break out when Moses died as a sign of rebellion against them that challenged the law of God by the letter . The Holy Spirit had Moses place the written book of the law on the side of the Ark as a warning to what is the inside the hidden witness . The two tablets having destroyed the ones hewn by the finger of God. God perving the written tradition as the only , commanded Moses to hewn out two more stones which again were written by the finger of God as his witness . another hidden witness the witness of Aaron's the staff that showed those who rebel against the word of God and the third mana , you could say hidden as to the unseen spiritual understanding like that in Revelation 2:7

Deuteronomy 31:25-27 King James Version (KJV)That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying,Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee. For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the Lord; and how much more after my death?
