Somewhere in my readings today I saw that we know the spirit is present based on the fruit produced.

How does one perceive the Holy Spirit within them and see his working? The Holy Spirit is spoken of as a Comforter, Teacher, seal of guarantee of the inheritance... etc. Galatians also mentions the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. How do you know when the Lord is working in you to produce the fruit of the Spirit? There are also many people who are not Christian who are very loving and kind.
Well from my own experience the Holy spirit reflects through those who have accepted Jesus as Saviour and his works, once you have that Spirit within you it's like an energy boost your first day, giving you the sensation that you can doing anything for God/Jesus and then once the spirit sees you are ready to handle wisdom, the Spirit will lead you to read the Bible and consider the Spirit's council and conviction.
Undoubtedly you will also feel the need to let go of certain things around you that may be impeding your servitude or simply that in before time you lacked the Spirit so you could not see certain spiritually bad things around you.
The Holy Spirit influences much change on our decisions, our behavior, and even our hearts, you'll know you have the Holy spirit from a few differences...
1.feeling uplifted and wanting to serve God/Jesus
2.Willing to pray for and forgive even those who may have wronged you
3.not so concerned with material things or having money and willing to have less to help others though not necessarily actually having less(God does bless when we do good)
4.more concerned than before for family, friends, or those you communicate with concerning their welfare and salvation
5.not so fearful of the world but, rather having fear of God out of respect not out of panick

The first epistle of John gives the Christian thirteen indicators (or evidences) that the Holy Spirit is working within the believer:

1. CONFESSION OF PRESENT SINS
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 Jn 1:9,10)

2. FORSAKING OF ALL SINS
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous ( 1 Jn 2:1)

3. KEEPING CHRIST'S COMMANDMENTS
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. (1 Jn 2:3)

4. REFUSING TO LOVE THE WORLD (SINFUL ATTRACTIONS AND WORLDLINESS)
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 Jn 2:15)

5. ABIDING IN CHRIST (DOING RIGHTEOUSNESS)
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. (1 Jn 2:28,29)

6. PURIFYING ONESELF FROM ALL DEFILEMENT
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. (1 Jn 3:4)

7. GENUINELY LOVING OTHER CHRISTIANS
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another... But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? (1 Jn 3:11,17)

8. TRYING OR TESTING THE SPIRITS
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (1 Jn 4:1)

9. BEING WITHOUT TORMENTED FEAR
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1 Jn 4:18)

10. BEING AN OVERCOMER BY FAITH
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (1 Jn 5:4)

11. BELIEVING THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WITHIN
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself
: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. (1 Jn 5:10)

12. HAVING CONFIDENCE IN PRAYER
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us
: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. (1 Jn 5:14,15)

13. REJECTING ALL IDOLS (REAL AND METAPHORICAL)
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. (1 Jn 5:21)
Winner here.All scripture.

btw Waggles I got no problem with speaking in tongues, but where does it say if you DONT that you dont have the Spirit or are unsaved? Or even that you must do so to be saved?
Most pentecostals dont believe that.

I know that the Holy Spirit (Jesus, the Christ) is within me, because of the power he fills me with. By faith in his work.

What sets apart the holy spirit not just known by the fruit but because this fruit magnifies the Lord. When you taste it and see it, you know the Lord is good.
Someone may appear to be loving and kind but they are not glorifying God it could be just themselves. There are many things that might appear sweet but they could be just full of sugar! And bad for you.

Another example, one might be a physician and maybe people might go to you as a skilled doctor and they get better. Thats down to your skill as a doctor. But if the holy spirit is working in you when you lay hands on someone who is sick and pray and they are healed it isnt you its the power of God! And you dont even need to have studied medicine.

They believe God not seen called the first works the work of his love working in us to both will and do his good pleasure. (imputed righteousness ) previously having no faith that comes from hearing God .

We can see that in the actions of sect/denomination called the Nicolaitanes they had given their first love to their leader Nicole. Its what God had against them and commanded them to do the first works of God working in them…. believe God not seen, and not men like Nicole seen.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.Rev. 2: 4-7

I would offer he that has been given a ear to hear what the Spirit says to the churches as our first love and not what the churches say as their own private interpretation or personal commentaries of His interpretation, the Bible.

The first sign, a smile, the kind if you grin your in. Considering it pure joy that we can believe Him not seen..

I suggest you do some more homework on this subject.

The criticism that Jesus gives of the Nicolaitans is not that they had given their first love to their leader. You would have to remove verse 5 and part of verse 6 from Rev 2 to believe that. The passage is quoted below, showing that Jesus, after criticising the Ephesians for forsaking their first love, actually praises them for hating the practices of the Nicolaitans.

Rev 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. 6 But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

The only other reference to "Nicolaitans" is in Rev. 2:15, quoted below.

15 Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Scripture never actually states what their false beliefs or practices were. It also doesn't name the leader of the group. Let's not be butchering Scripture to invent what isn't there.

Yeah that part in particular is tough, the Lord for sure knows I have had some horrendous people in my life but, I seek to forgive and forget, and at times pray, though some I have had to cut out of my life, but, I take comfort in prayer that God/Jesus may be able to influence them to change for the better, sometimes it's best to just leave matters in his hands, when we do our best that's all we can hope for sadly some people we just can't get through to but, God/Jesus can!

You've already answered the question for the most part.

People who are loving but not Christians simply mean they are not saved yet. They are already listening to the Holy Spirit.

Thanks, I stand corrected it was the Ephesians church in regard to the first love principle using the practices of the Nicolaitans to warn them from following the same .Some refer to Balaam as a example

Nicolaitans (followers of Nicolas ), Nicolaitans is a demonym a word that identifies residents or natives of a particular place, which is derived from the name of that particular place Christian is another speaking of resident of that community name after its founder

It would appear they were not putting God first, our first love, similar as that with Balaam. we are warned of those who say we do need a man to teach us.

It is nice when you sense the presence of the Lord. When he shows up in a way that you can feel his presence around you, it can be very powerful. I also believe I have felt the Holy Spirit when I was being prayed for to receive/ be filled with the Spirit. It felt as if like a fire and it seemed to me afterward that I was beginning to fall forward but I grabbed onto someone so that likely kept me from falling all the way. As powerful as that experience was, I don't like to depend on that for my assurance of salvation. I have dealt with doubt for a long time in regards to assurance of salvation. It is better than it was in high school because in high school I had little to none assurance of salvation and had trouble with believing in God's love for me. My next step is to trust God more but it is not always so easy when I feel anxious. I do know that there are a plethora of verses on trusting God.

John 4:24 KJV.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

-

Acts 9:5-6 KJV.
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

- This is from the encounter Paul had with Jesus, - and the Lord reveals himself from heaven - not visible, as clearly written, and who is he saying that he is? Jesus!

I will leave you with more scripture, and I also have a question;
If Jesus Christ is not the Holy Spirit; (he is) - how can he be IN you?

You are supposed to know this, as a believer.

1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

OK, - by these two scriptures, you should have enough to clearly see.
Your body is the temple of God, - he is Holy, and a Spirit. His name is (Jesus) - and dwells within his children, - in 2 Corinthians 13:5 one is told to examine, and actually know that Jesus Christ is within.

Does scripture say that christ was full of the spirit how would he therefore be the spirit?

When John baptized christ in the water a Dove descented on him as he was coming out of the water

Are you implying that is we are filled with scripture that the holy spirit indwells within us?

Something to ponder is that the Hebrews of the time were familiar with the old covenant yet when they heard, accepted the gospel of forgiveness, and then confess with their mouths that christ was the Lord they did not receive the holy spirit until the disciples laid hand upon them?

What gets me to wander in my feeble mind is the miraculous day of pentecost

No.
Jesus is not the Holy Spirit.
You have yet to prove anything .
The comforter or Holy Spirit,is a separate person.
Clearly Jesus told them so,as he said I AM LEAVING,BUT I LEAVE YOU THE COMFORTER.

I got a better one for you.
The Father says of the Son,"thy throne o GOD is for ever, and ever"

You can't get any traction trying to figure out the trinity.
It is beyond the human mind
